From play-asia...

Just spotted that it has been confirmed by play-asia that Call of Duty 3 for the Xbox 360 is region free! So get over there quick to place an order! I've found play-asia to be reliable and quick, and have just ordered my copy!

Play Asia Compatibility guide:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en-50-00.html

Note - these are limited to one per customer, I'm guessing to stop eBay tradersfrom taking the mickey!

My first posting - hope it helps!

How much would customs be if you were unlucky enough to get hit?

Generally, no.

Customs is likely to be VAT 17.5% + 4% duty, + £4 RM handling charge.
If you are caught that is.

I spotted this earlier too... only it was on other forums ;)

If anyone wants to try out H.M. guide for import duty, please don't, it's given me a headache that'll last a week:cry:

I'm exactly the same - I've never once had to pay import tax on a game; I think that whilst they are meant to pick up everything over £18, in reality they only look for those items like watches and jewellery that is easy/cheap to transport and import and can mean £100s of pounds of tax per "catch"...

And whilst I don't advocate tax evasion, tax avoidance is, by definition, legal if morally suspect...!

Is has been mentioned that the guys at play-asia will sometimes mistakingly mark the value of the item on the parcel, especially if you pop them an email before the item is dispatched!

No problems - glad to have helped with my first "find" on HotUKDeals! Add me if you get the chance - I'm (unsurprisingly) "Lucky David" on Live!

Great spot Lucky David. Never played CoD but reviews are saying this is a must have title and I love FPS so ordered last night and it's on its way. 24 players online supported too - excellent.

I know they are region free but i have never bought a console game from them before and want to know if it plays straight away as a pal region one would?

The reason i ask is that I once bought The Sims for pc from ebay and it was delivered from Hong Kong and was in fact chinese and I had to use a sepetrate cd to install in english.

I assume opening titles atre in English are they ?
#19
yes they are english titles and play straight away like a pal region one would :)
#20
These games are 100% in English, I have COD3 and Gears of War and they both work perfectly, you just put them in and play.

Did you buy gears of war from play asia? Its not showing as region free on their site. Can u give me the link if im mistaken.

COD3 is showing as out of stock atm. How long do they usually take to restock does anyone know? Im thinking of buying a couple of games from these guys thanks.

usually a week and they have them again. sign up to be updated via email when they get stock, otherwise they'll run out again! it should also drop in price slightly by the time they have new stock in

Holy moly! You already have GOW? I know for a fact that bloody HMV won't manage to send it to me til several days after the UK release date despite ordering it on the 5th Sept. That is certainly going to be a painful weekend knowing how many people will already have it :x

you might be surprised.

i pre ordered COD3 (which is out tomorrow) and HMV shipped it yesterday.

here's hoping they do the same with GOW.
#26

#27

I got COD3 and GOW from a friend in HK who sent them to me by ups, I don't buy my games online. :) Believe it or not, I actually get them for less than Play-Asia's prices.

They're chinese versions, but they're both region free and play 100% in English, GOW is amazing and the single the best game I've played on Live since PGR.

I just got my COD3 in the post today from shopto.net well chuffed ! Great game sofar, Veteran mode is bloody difficult, there a so many more nazties to kill :D

paid £35 for it sent by registered post and its the UK PAL version boxed with 48 live access which I dont need
#30
dont say that im dying to get home...... I've not been this excited since Halo 2 came out!

saying that I did take the afternoon off work to go play that one lol sad little gaming freak i know.

amino, gammertag's Minstrel Man83 if you fancy an online battle this evening, cant imagine that many people will be on pre release matchmaking.
#31
im dying to get online but the wan*ers at Comets have only today called me to say they are going to replace my laptop after having for repair for 36 days and counting. Ive had Sky broadband MAX installed last month and I have yet to use it, im well narked off ! I might borrow a mates laptop to set up my router and connection again.

The graphics are a fair bit sharper than the last instalment, and the gameplay is better and harder

If im on later im my gamertag is: Eldoodarino
#32
I've also got Sky broadband, although i registered it over 6 weeks ago they still haven't sent me out the router yet - I've got my mums, they sent hers out but between themselve and bt she couldnt get transfered over becuase the migration code failed blah blah blah.

i know loads of people who have had trouble conecting to sky for the first time, mine now works and has done fine ever since, although they have sent me wrong username/password so i cant use any of their features and i refuse to stay on hold for 2 hours to be put through to "tech support" an indian call centre quoting a script.

so word of warning, it may not be as simple as borrowing someones laptop to set up your sky wireless router.

Niiice.

Sadly i got stung with Import Tax when i bought Saints Row.

Just for anyone who wants to know, it ended up costing me £7 import! So if you do get stung (you usually know because it takes about 2 weeks to arrive, rather than 5/7 days).

I know a lot of people who have ordered and never been stung, just your luck really :).
#34
I was stung on my first and only game import, I was rather cheesed off when my DS game worked out at over £35 and had to wait ages for the priviledge.

Reckon you can usually get lucky but it's certainly a nasty surprise being told to haul your ass down the post office to grace their palm with silver.
#35
Never been stung by import tax and I have orderd 6 games from Play Asia, must be lucky.

My copy of COD 3 has been posted today.
#36
Mine has been posted too....fingers crossed, I escape the dreaded claws of HM Customs & Excise again....
#37
Just ordered mine as its back in stock.

Another thread claims Gears of war is region free but mislabelled on their site. can anyone confirm this?
#38
Yes, I already have GOW, it's region free.

If you want further confirmation, my gamertag is TomBigBee, it's on my played list. ;)

I took the day off work to buy the 360 on launch night. I honestly thought we were going to be murdered carrying 4 XBox 360s through the city centre :)
I think the fact there are already Americans queing to buy the PS3 in 7 days time is slightly worrying though!

hi, just noticed call of duty 3 for xbox360 on woolworths website reduced from £49.99 to £29.99,ive already ordered it from play-asia for £25 but thought it was a great price if any of you want it from woolies.
