Perhaps it's time to sell my copy if it's still commanding this sort of price.
Never play it.
#2
I'd rather fork out the extra £3 and get hardened edition :) (If I didn't already have MW2).
#3
Second hand still selling for around this price on ebay.

Not a bad deal but the Hardened Edition is far hotter.
#4
Sorry to slash your post. But makes no sense to buy this when this edition is a few quid more.

My son has been asking for this but he's only 14, a lot of his mates play it (online) and he's saying he is left out. I am not going to get it for him because I believe he must be too young but just wanted to know the reason WHY it's an 18? sorry if that's a dumb question...

Well in the campaign there's some swearing and obviously with it being as realistic as possible, there's blood and you are constantly killing people. Also you can knife enemies.

Your choice but I'd let him have it if you think he's mature enough. Can't even compare this to some of the 18 films out there.

Theres one scence where you masacre and airport with innocent people.

You can skip this bit.

I recon he's a young 14... this is the thing, he's a bit less mature than most of his 14yr old friends. He has nightmares when he watches anything a bit scarey LOL. My 6 yr old is hard as nails but all kids are different aren't they? I don't want him to be 'uncool' but I also don't want him exposed to anything too frightening iykwim.

It's an 18 because it depicts war/violence in a fairly realistic way, with some bad language (in the main campaign, and lots online :p) and gore/blood.

To be honest, it's not a big deal if you get it for him - others on here will say otherwise, with their high and mightiness, but as a gamer myself and having been playing 18s since I was 11, I can safely say that unless your child is mentally disturbed and is a serial killer waiting to burst out, that playing 18 titles will not harm them as long as they are sensible enough to understand it's just a game etc etc.

Having completed and still playing the game myself, I don't see anything particularly shocking - there's a lot worse on TV and in movies, and it's good fun (he's likely to mainly be playing multiplayer which is very tame - You shoot each other, that's about it).

Correct. You can actually run through the entire section without shooting a single civilian, and only have to start firing when the police/soliders arrive.

It's up to you then. In my opinion, it's not a scary game by any sorts - and I'm not a fan of horror etc. Perhaps watch some game footage on YouTube and decide for yourself? Watch some cutscenes and watch some actual gameplay to get a feel for it then make an informed decision.

If he goes to friends houses, it's likely he's already played it anyway.

lol bringing up kids with games! im 22 not that ive got kids or anything but its practically gaurenteed he will get addicted to it i know i would have at that age, i dont think its particularly gory or brutal but then you kinda get anaethatised to the fact your your shooting and blowing people up... in helicopter mowing down little thermal images of people running around.. as with any multiplayer game youll always some people spewing a load of foul language down the mics and stuff, check out a youtube video yourself and decide!

As long as he doesn't cause a future flight delay or stab me in the heart on my way home from work I say go for it :-D
Indeed I may as well offer you mine at a fair price as I no longer play it.

I was quite shocked by the airport sequence as I was not expecting it. Two friends finally played it earlier this week and found it rather controversial.

id personally also say COD4 was slightly less appropriate for younger kids, right in at the start with executions and it was all a bit too relevant to the war in iraq and stuff, if he played those its not any worse, but man if i was that age and my friends had the game i would be pestering you soo bad!!
#15
Ask him if he's a virgin. If not, buy him the game.
#16
I really appreciate your replies thank you. I have just overheard him telling one of his friends that he isn't allowed COD and his friend was laughing. I know he has already played it at a friends but I was just a bit worried about the 18 rating, I have let him watch 15 films for about a year now but won't allow 18films yet. I am definitley thawing now, maybe I have been too harsh

its for the casual gamers like FIFA , I know a lot of people whom just buy FIFA and CoD every year and thats about it . Nothing wrong with casual gaming but if your after a more teamwork based FPS look elsewhere .
Also it has the most obnoxious people playing it , real tough guys behind a gamepad calling everyone the n word etc . I'd keep my kids away from it too .
#23
When the f*** will this game drop to a reasonable price. This ain't no bargain. Voted cold - yes, even if it is cheaper than other places and stuff. It's cold because games shouldn't cost this much so long after release.

I love this game, but i'm not a big gamer.

To the mum, your son will spend most of his time playing this on line so i wouldnt worry about the 18 rating.

The online version is just a load of people running about shooting each other and does not warrant the 18 tag.

The game has an 18 rating but has clearly been designed for 14 year olds [and it shows].
You are right - The people that play this game are the worst.

Not sure how anyone can call it awful? It's just very over hyped.

What bugs me most is when other FPS games are deemed crap because they are always compared to COD.

Age limits are put on games and films for good reason, whilst I am not condeming the parents who go beyond these guldelines I can only speak as I find. Various posters have spoken about the gory scenes within the game.
In the light of the Jamie Bulger murder trial, laws in 1994 were tightened around video nasties as it was thought that these played a part in how young Jamie was murdered.
It takes a better parent to say no to these demands that are not deemed suitable.

What video games were out in those days that were so graphic they turned the minds of those two little monsters?
#33
I refered to video nasties, the likes of childs play etc... as such it did change the law, whilst at present we are talking about games, what i refer to is the age reccomendations for such material.
