Not a good price either, got this model a month ago from Amazon for £95 - nice super macro mode, and has 720p hd video too.
I wouldn't buy from them. They sell grey imports which manufacturers will not touch when they need to be repaired. They might well come with 5 years sellers warranty. Just check this company's feedback before you buy.

Just curious. What's the difference between European (CE marked) and US camera?

Well - for starters I believe it's illegal to retail non-CE-marked products in Europe, It's basically a certificate of conformity which says the product is safe. Without the CE mark, there's no way of knowing if the product meets these safety standards. And, yes, in practical terms, it means that they throw in a crappy 3-pin adaptor.

CE marks can be self declared so are pretty worthless.

American UL marks however show safety standards have been met.

I challenged Camerabox as to why my product arrived with the security seal broken. They claimed that it was security checks that they were obliged to perform. Then I found the cheap adaptor in the box and all became clear. They said they would replace the product with a European-sourced model when they came in but, surprise surprise, they never got any more in stock.

Shysters - steer well clear. They should certainly be banned from HUKD

See the thread on Money Saving Expert. Kwikchex - who had been sorting out Camerabox problems - have issued a statement saying the same. Yet they are still running the website and taking orders.

I would advise people waiting for orders to go to their cc compnay for a chargeback.
Ordered their last offer a week ago and after querying non delivery received the following mail today.

" Camerabox Official Statement
After the loss of key members of staff, Camerabox Limited has been forced to temporarily cease trading. We will temporarily cease to take any new orders and all existing and unfulfilled orders have been cancelled. Refunds take between 2-14 days or alternatively you can contact your card issuer to issue a dispute and chargeback. Thank you for your co-operation and patience in this difficult period.

I think most people have a misconception about warranties. . . If you bought a European camera and have a fault you return it to the shop where you bought it ( same as this dealer he has to comply with EU laws) then one of two things will happen (depending on location) one they will sent it to canon** or two send it to canons authorized service center then a decision will be made repair or replace, that is that same as this dealer would do , its seller who has to look after the warranty not the manufacture or the customer during the 12 months after that gray or no gray you are on your own but if you can always buy a warranty from a insurance company such as warrantydirect.co.uk but the bottom line is there is a vast saving between an UK and Jap camera

** I think canon may be like many others such as Sony, Nokia, etc they have official service agents

Wow all these none buyers of grey imports they must have money to throw away This camera was for sale with a 2 year warranty for £455 ( sold out out that price and I bought my mine for £409 ). . but you can buy this camera with a one year Warranty for £459 or £479 with 2 year warranty . . I am sure all the imported buyers are very happy with their cameras and the fact they have saved well over a £100 +

until it goes wrong

you will either have to send it back to camerbox or abroad as canon uk wont touch it unless you are very lucky

Stay clear of this company. They are fraudsters.
Dont think the 5 year warranty is worth the paper its written on, after year 2 you need to pay for the repair which on average is £100 a pop
Tz10 r £189.99 tesco instore. Seen in blackpool
Did they make another a520 with wide angle and long zoom that might be comparable to this?

Or are you comparing apples and oranges.
agree with robot1000s above comment.

cannon camera I got in 2005, 4mp a520 still takes photos that look great even though the flash takes for ever to recharge.

Add to that, I would not want to buy from a manufacturer that updates it's firmware to force you to use overpriced original batteries.

Nonsense! Plenty of fully software compliant compatibles around from about £7.50.

You seem very out of touch spock1958 - you keep posting spoiler comments which are just plain wrong. Please check your facts before you mislead people.

Here's an Energizer one for starters:

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=110459

Read this. Feel free to ignore my warning, but would you want to take the risk? I can't see anything on the 7 Day shop page that GUARANTEES that Panasonic firmware will not render the battery useless.

I didn't realise that people were such 'fans' of my posts, that they read them so thoroughly to say that I KEEP posting spoiler comments.

I have a TZ10, I have several different non-original batteries, they all work fine. The underlying issue is potentially valid but has been overcome for some time.

Thanks for that Besford, want to get a Panasonic (TZ8 or TZ18) and that comment had me worried. Probably going to get the camera from a reputable company and pay a few pennies more, peace of mind is priceless on that amount of money :-)

Have a look at pricing on the TZ9 too. It's a DSG only model (Currys, PCW, Dixons) but has the larger, better screen of the TZ10 without the unnecessary bits (for most) like GPS. I have the TZ10 but would have been very happy with a TZ9. Has been just under £200 for a while but I suspect it will fall like the other 2010 models. TZ18 doesn't appear to offer much more except a higher price!

I've bought a camera and a couple of lenses from CameraBox, all have been delivered next day with no problems. When I rang them to change a delivery address, they answered straight away, and were helpful enough. Wouldnt hesitate to use them again.

You may get lucky and get what you want first time. I have had 1 camera delivered perfectly but another they promised without delivering, lied and eventually I hhad to get my credit card company to sort them out.

Whilst you might get the product ok, if you buy from them expecting anything out af a 5 year guarantee, you may be sorely disappointed.

camerabox are dodgey, keep an eye on your creditcard and debit card.

it may come with 5 year warrenty, however there is so much grief dealing with them

heres a nice site to find camera and lens prices http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/index.html - it has a nice graph of each product which shows general changes over time

You have quite an expensive bit of glass on the end of it though. 200mm @ f/2.8. Even the "cheapy" Tamron (et al) starting prices are £600.

I'm not saying the sensor isn't good (it is) but there's a lot more than just a good sensor helping you get those shots.

I wouldn' disagree with you nor would any photographer I don't think. Invest in glass, it will outlive the camera by a few years.

The lens on those pictures is more expensive than the body, however take a look at these from Tom Robinson's Birthday gig. Anything over 50mm was taken with a lens costing under the D90 price (one I just sold for £450) and anything 50mm or under was taken with a lens I picked up thanks to a deal on here for £120 (both Sigma).

Optically though you don't need to spend a fortune to get good glass, the Nikon 50mm 1.8 can be had for around £100 and is one of the best value and best quality (and still great for low light) lenses around.

I need good quality glass (i.e. f2.8 or below) because of the type of work I do, however you can get older Nikon Lenses that are still great for lots less than the D90 body. If you don't need low light lenses then you can get even better value. Take a look here for good lenses on a budget

You can view the photo attributes on the right hand side......

Great camera but alas i reckon the glass on the front is probably worth more than the D90

Nice shots

How can you tell what lens he's using?

It's very good for low light photography, here's some photo examples from last weekend's Elvis Costello gig taken with mine. I'm just about to sell mine but not that it isn't any good. It's allowed me to progress and moving up to its big brother the D700..
