I got one of these about a year ago when they were on a super offer from Tesco. It's a great little box - excellent HD picture quality and a good menu interface. iPlayer works well too and plays HD content from that. Hot.

The latest firmware on this box is a little buggy (causing tuning issues in some areas) and the S/PDIF output doesn't provide Dolby Digital... but there's always a hope they'll fix these things eventually with an update!

BBC iPlayer is provided using an embedded version of Firefox and works pretty well!

Bought this when it was £30 a couple of weeks ago, very good kit, excellent HD image quality... The only problem with us is that our TV (Hitachi 32") doesn't seem to remember the HDMI connect, so every time we switch on TV, we have to go through the outputs to get to EXT-5 where it is HDMI connect to this freebox, really annoying grrrhhhh... Haven't tried the BBC Iplayer yet, as the TV is quite far from the router and our cable is too short... :(

Thanks for sharing this deal. Some idiot (ahem) has recently wall mounted their TV in such a way that it's made the RF input inaccessible. Basically I've got no TV access so this is the perfect solution. Good find, especially after reading the reviews on Tech Radar and Expert Reviews.

You're welcome. 20m may be a bit of an overkill though, depends how far away your TV is from your router. Just search for "cat5 cable" in Amazon and you can find different lengths (1m, 2m, 5m, 10m. etc) all for about the same price :)

Is there such a thing as a wireless "dongle" that attaches to the ethernet port?
Or how could I connect without running a cable from my router?

you could get some homeplugs - these are an amazing bit of kit , basically 2 plugs , one attached to your router the other anywhere theres a a socket.

just done a bit of quick researching, and this is the cheapest thing I can find:

sorry, just realised that price is not buy it now, its in auction.

does this allow for channels to be streamed via internet rather than aerial? i.e can watch all channels without aerial as i get no signal but got fiber optic broadband. if not does any1 know if they exist?

I don't think this box does, but BT Vision are planning a streaming channel service although only for certain channels (which you may not want) Link

It supports IPTV but unless you're interested in watching CCTV (China Central TV) that's unlikely to help.

BBC iPlayer also works without the need for an antenna.

We've switched, but our picture is rubbish. I think there's an aerial in the attic but it doesn't seem to do anything if I plug my TV into the wall-point. Hence the booster aerial. But still - nada.

I'd get a decent local aerial engineer in. Best thing I ever did after messing around with countless aerials in the attic. Guy came out knew exactly what local signal conditions were like and what I needed to get a decent digital signal. Never looked back.

I see it also has a USB socket - anyone know whether that allows recording?

I've owned one for 18 months - superb performance & a quality piece of kit. Highly recommended at this price.

The USB socket is only used for firmware upgrades.
