I've got one of these in the bedroom For some strange reason the HD channels work fine but some of the other channels just break up through lack of signal, I would have expected it to be the other way around. This never happened with the previous stand alone boxes using the same aerial. It is no great problem as I just switch to the built in freeview on the T.V. which works fine. It's no more than a bit irritating for me but thought I'd better post in case anyone decides to rely on this as their only source.

Thanks, nearly ordered one from Amazon but I get it from here.

Good for the money. Sometimes they lose audio and the only solution is to factory reset it, wasting 5 minutes as it rescans the channels and loses any favourite channel lists. Worth £30 though.

The Humax HD FOX-T2 is probably the best Freeview HD receiver and can also record to a USB drive so is in effect a single tuner PVR - it is more expensive - a grade A refurb is £69+P&P.

And don't forget the icecrypt once updated with firmware will record to external usb and become a pvr. We got a new telly and it has freeview built in - we watch this the majority of the time and record on the icecrypt due to its limitations with watching many other progs while it records.

+1 have been using Humax for years and, in my experience, they are the best picture/reliability. The Manager's Specials at £74 delivered with a 1 year warranty are very good value for money and well worth the extra few quid over the likes of boxes like the one listed here.

ive got this. works fine for me. i only ever use it for hd channels. as it cant set reminders. and the UI of my built in toshiba tv is miles ahead of this. would be abit of a pain if i used this as my set top box.

I bought one a while back and been quite impressed with it. I-player is a bonus and works well even on my 2mb adsl. HDchannels are good on mine most of the time though I do have a very poor aerial. There is a firmware update (do it via USB) which gets rid of the bug with low volume. EPG is good though slightly laggy. I just turn the box on when there is some sport to watch as on a 32in tv most other tv programmes don't look that much different, but football especially is much better. I noticed during Wimbledon too that some matches were broadcast in 3d on the BBC HD channels (though I don't have a 3d tv so couldn't see them in 3d glory!)
There has been talk of a modded firmware update to enable internet / pvr function etc, though haven't been able to find any by googling. Anyone else know?

Does this have built in wifi, or is it cabled connection (homeplug)?

No, cable only or homepug (or Netgear wireless bridge thing)

I've got one of these, very pleased with it.

Got one of these a couple of months back (mainly because is was cheap and has a separate digital audio output). SD channels don't work at all but HD is fine (and yes I did update the firmware). Fortunately I only bought it to project HD TV...so it's not a problem but I'd be mighty peeved if it was my main SD source.

Yea looks like a nice freeview box. Not sure what all rage is about, its only free view/ The additiom with bbc iplayers is a good added feature, and one wonders if it can be hacked to allow other content to be played from the internet, like itv or sky player.
The only downfall i can see with this, is that a rj45 connection is required. Where as wireless might have been a better option. As how many people have there broadband router, by there tv now?

It's not just freeview, it is freeview HD too, and is a good price for a freeview HD box, only slightly more than a budget freeview set top box.

Great HD, and you have HD ready box. Dont work.
Anyway HD, aint that great. You only notice the differance once you compare to screens side by side.

has anyone used a sky dish to pick up freeview HD (to act as an Ariel)

I know I should go for a Freesat box, but they seem to be a lot more expensive.

Not sure I understand you. A normal freeview box can be had for about £20, this is £8 more for a Freeview HD box, plus it has I-player. Agree with you re most stuff doesn't look much differeent but it does depends on your TV size, on a 40" TV and larger it is very noticeable on all HD channels (Even Eastenders looks good and there's very little fuzziness..) Football is much much crisper on HD, there's very little fuzzyiness around the players, even on my 32" screen.
