Hi everybody,

Good news for everybody on 12 months contract with three.

I recieved a letter today saying that they are changing my billing to 59 sec for 1st minute call from previous per second billing.

So, I just got my PAC code free of charge and cancelled my contract.

This only currently affects Video Talk and Text 700, Mix and Match plans and Pay As You Go Flat12.

Best way is to ring them and confirm about any changes to your per second billing and act accordingly.

Remember you only have 15-30 days from now to cancel ur contract

Best wishes

This only affects customers who took their contract out/upgraded prior to October last year. It's also only those on affected price plans who have received a letter advising them of the change to their Terms and Conditions.

This wont work if you are on any Mix and Match price plan as they changed last year and you only had until Mid November to exercise the right to cancel.

In short, you'll be notified of the change if you're able to cancel, if you don't get contacted by them regarding this, you're still under contract with them.

They'll be amending other price plans later in the year but as it's only affecting people who started their current contract prior to October, the number of people who can cancel each time will be less and less.

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade! Incidentally, the only company who don't currently implement 1st Minute billing are Orange, but i'm sure we're all aware of the price you have to pay for that little "benefit".

i think i'l move to the Vodafone SIM ONLY deal where its £15 a month for either 500 txts 125 mins or vice versa

I THINK you get free internet on Vodafone now, i just rang up to ask and he said the free internet for vodafone contract customers does apply to the sim only deal

no - mix and match is not included yours changed months ago and you only get a short period to change it - this only works for a very small number of three customers and they will all be contacted by letter - if you didnt get one it doesnt include you.

Isn't the free internet only for the first couple of months?

From memory i don't think that one has changed yet, it'll be later in the summer, by which point you may only have a few months of your contract left. If you do get a letter then give them a call within 30 days and they can cancel for you, or may upgrade you early to keep your business.

Changes to your bill - VideoTalk &Text 700

From 3rd July 2008, any calls lasting 60 seconds or less will be rounded up to a minute. After the first minute, you’ll get charged for the rest of the call per second. There’s no change for calls made before 3rd July 2008, but calls of less than 60 seconds made from 3rd July onwards will be rounded up to one minute.

· This means your first bill after the change may include calls rounded up to one minute and some calls (made before 3rd July) that aren't.

· The usage summary on your bill will show the rounded-up number of minutes for that month.

· This only currently affects Video Talk and Text 700, Mix and Match plans and Pay As You Go Flat12.

Our price plans remain extremely competitive and we offer a host of extras, including free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world from your 3 mobile. You can also stay in control of your bills quickly and easily with My3. My3 is a free service that's available online and on your mobile. You can keep up-to-date with what you've spent this month, pay bills, see what price plan you're on, and much more.

Being on PAYG means that you're not on contract so there's nothing for your to cancel. Just use up your credit and don't top up anymore if you don't want to use it

So let's get this right, any calls you make that's less than a minute for the first minute will be rounded up to the first minute ? Which includes your existing call time and then any minutes outside your call time you will get charged for ?

Spot on, which is the way every network bar Orange now works.

If you've received the letter to say your terms are changing, you have the right to cancel. If you exercise that right, you are still entitled to keep the phone as it's a detrimental change to your T's&C's by the company and not your fault.

I thought VTT700 had already changed back in about Feb, which if it did, you've missed the boat, but by all means call and ask if your price plan is now subject to 1st Minute billing, if it's changed within the last 30 days then you can ask to cancel due to it being a detrimental change to T&C's.

Hope that helps.

Well I guess I'm lucky i'm still on the price match Virgin tariff (basically it's the old Virgin payg tariff that bills ber second and monthly line rental!).

I guess this is not a major issue unless you have a very small amount of minutes and you make loads of calls less that a minute.

But I must admit this is a very naughty move by the mobile phone industry, sometimes I wonder if their is any real point in having a contract vs payg ?

Yeah - i'll second that... got a couple of Simply 3G cashback Three contacts that I cant get out of (Simply 3G gone bust in case anyone didn't know).
Been dying to get out of these stupid contracts!

£15 texter (previously Direct Text 675) here, no mail about the change.
18 month contract.

Wish I could cancel, simply because my phone is in pieces!
Can't fault their service, 3.5G is great.
Call centres are terrible, though.
#29
I got this letter last year, you will find a thread talking about this change from then. i called them up and sent letter to cancel contract as per T&C's. They said fine and told me when my contract would expire. No charges for doing this.....

Also I got to keep my phone (N95), I don't have any problems with free, so I was going to take out another contract, get my quidco etc, etc and keep the phone and get a new one as a spare or sell....

But a day or 2 before the contract ended, they called me and offered me a £30 contract for £10 p/month for 12 mths. :-D

Hi
I am on texter 500 text and 75 min talk time. I took this out last march. any idea if this has changed
#32
Also on Talk and Text 1400 which I took out in Jan 2007. Would love to be able to wriggle my way out of my contract as I have been far from happy with both 3 and my phone.

This could be the perfect excuse to upgrade to an iphone!
#33
Just off the phone to 3 my plan is 15 texter (600 texts and 75 min) This plan has not changed yet!
#34
I'm on Talk & text 900 and have been for 4 years or more but currently took out a new contract in jan 08 for 18months. No letter and my bills still per second billing.
#35
Talk and Text is not affected. I just called three customer services and they confirmed this.

Luckily for me my contract runs out in July :)

Damn. I could have done with a get out clause. 3 phone service is ok but the customer service now sucks.
#37
anyone have an idea if talk & text 600 hs been affected by this now or last october.... thanks...
#38
oh how i'd love to get out of my three contract! The call centre staff are like robots, anything 'off script' and they haven't got a clue! . . Just paid £108 bill. £68 of it was for data usage that i know fine well i didnt use!

Beware taking out a contract with 3!

The customer service is terrible, all the call centres are in asia and they don’t speak very good English, I was given a handset by Phones 4U which started playing up one month after I got it and 3 refused to fix it (which my contract says they should). After about three months of phone calls and having my phone sent to 3 and returned unfixed twice, Phones 4U eventually replaced it!

3 are the worst company EVER

when i phoned up to cancel my contract, i had 1 month left, they said i will need to wait, i said, cancel it as of today and ill pay the extra months billing,

I was told "Okay", wait for your final bill and pay it

Waited..... lol. then a nice debt letter came through, i took them to court and won, the debt was wiped out totally

FU - THREE!
