ok. So I assume its an alright lens if you use a tripod? only asking as I am thinking of buying this camera as a first DSLR.

With tripod will be fine. For beginner it will be absolutely fine. It's perfect for learning and 50mm gives beautiful bokeh.
Sale finishing today so don't wait it's bargain. Camera comes out itself for £200 and 50mm 1.8 usually cost around £90-100

In good light there will be nothing wrong with it. stopped down the image quality will be fine. It's a Canon.....

not great for low light or if you want a creamy out of focus background.

But just keep the shutter 1/60s or faster, wind up the ISO don't have coffee etc etc. It will be fine.

So that adds up to £290-£300? You said throw (well trow) the other lens away. How is this a bargain at £319 (or even £299)?

Cheapest 1300d body is around £250. Add 50mm lens for £90 if you will buy separately. You won't find better deal for 1300d with 50 1.8 STM.

I'd spend the little extra and get the 750d with 18-55 STM lens. Much better camera and brilliant kit lens that has IS.

50mm 1.8 isnt decent

This is the STM model, with better build quality better focussing and some improvement to optical performance too. And it still runs for under £100. This pretty much addressed everything people disliked about the "plastic fantastic" mk2 and they kept the price down in the double digits, all things considered it's a very decent lens.

No lens had IS before the mid 1990's - are they no good? This lens is only f2 and has no IS:

would you throw it away if someone gave it to you?

Potentially another £50 off if you have an Amex with this offer - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amex-jessops-spend-150-get-50-back-2568130
