Probably a misprice
#2
Probably not! They have been £299 for a while .

The ticket was clear enough..
Not a stick on price tag on the camera, but the shelf ticket.

Voted Hot as good price and even though i don't want one im looking at getting a Nikon D90 atm which is abit more being £650 without a lens and thats best price i can find so far apart from on Ebay
#4

I don't agree with janz. Good price for dslr but not the best camera for everybody.
#6
Crazy good price. I'm off to Reading tomorrow!
#7
The price is correct, the problem is finding one. I've just checked the stores in Edinburgh and although two stores are showing stock of one, its the display model and they won't sell it.

Bargain if you can find it
#8
OK.. Who just voted cold?..
Stand up and give your reason.. I expect you want one for yourself!!

True not for everyone but you have gotta start somewhere and £200 for a decent DLSR is a good a place as any
#10
Anyone else found this at £200?
Gonna go look tommorrow! :)

I phoned Sainsburys and they confirmed the price. It was only a month ago they dropped this to 299.
#12

#13

Gonna ring them up and get this tommorrow.

I stand corrected then. Shocking price for a 400D, but as has been said I dare someone to find one. It seems too good to be true. Are you sure it isn't £199.97?
#15
I was thinking of getting the 450D.

Is it worth saving £150 to get this 400D or is the 450D worth the extra £150???
#16
I'm a camera noob, so is this better than the 40D? Or worse, whats the difference.

Would I need any more lenses? Just general photos.

Thanks

The 40d is a better camera but it's 3x the price so probably not worth it if you're just starting out. The image quality between this and the 400d is very slight, the 40d just gives you a more rugged case, 6.5 shots per second instead of 3, and a few other features. If you're comparing image quality then you'd get far better value spending the difference in price on lenses and upgrading to the 40d once you've mastered this.
#18
Amazing but if you can get your hands on one! Seriously hot (subject to availability) tempted to buy one as a back up camera!
#19
I spent a almost a grand on a 40D in the summer (with kit lens) I would agre with Jo on this... go buy this 400D and spend the difference on the lens so you are ready for upgrades in the future.

But you also commit to Canon. Price is not the most important factor when deciding for a dslr.
#21
Wow, brilliant price!
#22
anyone know where these are in stock?
#23
Awesome price. I may check my local tomorrow.
#24
checked Forestside and Sprucefield in Northern Ireland not available in store

also not on their products list either. They say that products can be down to particular stores.

so bad luck to anyone in Norn Iron and good luck to the rest of you.

Dad was looking at one of these second hand a couple of weeks ago, 2nd hand price of £300 , this brand new, seriously hot if you can get one
#25
That's the problem with Sainsburys instore deals of late. They're always very specific to individual stores.

It's the luck of the draw weither your local has one or not.

I agree size and your preferred uses (i.e live view for macro work) may swing you over to another brand such as Olympus, Sony or Nikon but all things being equal this is an awesome deal if the camera suited to your hand and preferences.

Please go and try one out though before you buy to avoid dissapointment!
#27
Even though this is so cheap, i'm still seriously considering the E510 and D40 because their kit lenses are so much better for a start!
#28
E510 has image stabilisation built in as well.
#29
Exactly.
I think i'm going to ring up Sainsburys tommorrow, reserve one, then go to jessops on the way and have a play with it too see if i like it, and have another play with the D40/E-510

I want a step up from my normal digital camera - would you lot recommend this?
I would want it for taking pictures of people mainly with a bit a scenic ones thrown in the mix.
Your opions would be a great help x
#31
Any DSLR will beat a Compact Camera, so I would recomend this.

Whats a DSLR?
#33
Don't suppose there's any canon cashback deal that could be used in conjunction with this price? :D

Arh so that means the pictures are better? More clearer?
#36
This particular deal may be good, but I don't think it'll be easy to find anywhere but reading.
Thanks for sharing, just wish I lived near reading now.
#37
i am off to sainsbury hot hot

Superb price!
I use a 350D and want to get a 450D which is far superior to the 400D, but at this price I am very tempted!

Well I personally think it depends on your skills really.

If you just care about taking photos of your normal family events, holidays, etc, then a good compact would be absolutely adequate.

If you would like to learn about photography, it's suitable to have an DSLR, then you should learn about light, aperture, shuttle speed and so more seriously.

From an intermediate to kind of advanced you definitely need a DSLR and professional lenses - Note that the budget for lenses will quickly be much more than that for the camera body.

A professional could produce great photos even with compact cameras.
Hope this helps.:santa:

Definitely recommend it at this price, a great piece of kit, not the best lens but will still produce great images and will give you loads of scope for improving your picture taking. The images will be clearer and cleaner - less compression and less noise. At £200 it is a bargain buy and you will have many years of use out of it!
