I wasn't aware that sainsburys sell SLR cameras!
Which store did you see it at?
Excellent price though! Hot.
#2
Yeah come on spill the beans - you sure it's with the lens kit? Great deal if true.

Would find this hard to resist.

well if they go into the sunderland store they will as they had at least one in stock tonight.
whats the point of comments like that? Are you saying I'm lying or something?

FWIW it was on the counter that does the photo developing, away from the electricals, so not with the display that has cameras, phones and sat navs on it

It was definately the 400D, and had the 18-55 lens with it
I only noticed it as my mate got a 2nd hand one yesterday for £150 so had a look to see what the price was new

I will say I have no idea if its in other stores or which ones sell sell them, but it was a proper printed lable, so presume its a national price, although could be wrong.

Our Sainsburys in Ipswich has just had a massive refurb and it sells DSLR cameras. I saw this very camera there this afternoon and wished i hadn't been shopping with the missus!!! ;-)

Saying that i didn't see if it was £299 i was just browsing................. and dreaming ........................
#9
its about time they put this down in price as it has been overpriced for god knows how long. used to be £450. Also i think its the newer or refurbed sainsburys that sell them because my nearest sainsburys didnt sell dslrs until the refurb.
#10
Cheap as anything. Great spot.
#11
Your better just buying the body anyway as the standard lense aint great and you will hardly use it once you buy a better lense.

Nice price i paid quite a bit more for mine.

Will vote hot as its a great peice of kit at 300 quid.

Whats the cheapest price anyone found (400D + 18-55 Lens) before this Sainsburys deal ?
#13
For anyone who can't get one of these - The Canon Outlet store on Ebay sells them all the time, mint condition, full 12 month warranty etc

Usually end up about £280 including postage

Haha love it. As if the weekly shop isn't already expensive enough? Let's just whack a £300 item in the trolley!

Don't want to start a fan war, but is this a better purchase than the Nikon D40 @ £208.00 that Amazon were offering a few weeks back ?
#18
Nikon vs. Canon
People tend to prefer whichever model they buy first. Ie. buy a Nikon for your first DSLR and you're likely to stay with Nikon for the rest of your life.

In this case you'll have to take it down to specs alone and which one suits you more.
At roughly the same price I don't think you could go wrong with either camera.

Sorry but I have to disagree, I had to switch from Canon to Nikon because of the lens quality in affordable range. Nikon consumer/prosumer lenses seems to be much better than the Canon ones (I am not into the L series lenses).

My experience of Sainsburys deals suggests that many of them are regional (or possibly only store by store).

For anyone near the Sunderland Sainsburys, great deal. I will be amazed if anyone else finds one, but good on them if they do.

I wouldn't say it was overpriced - I bought one at full price and am very impressed with the quality and value. If you can get one at £300 it's brilliant:thumbsup:

I paid £372 through Amazon (about six months ago), with a £45 rebate from Canon, so £327.

Thanks for this posting - Oldbury West Midlands has them - very helpful when I phoned. Old packaging as the box is flashed with last year's money back promotion. Now do I keep it for hubby's birthday or play with it now?!!!!

Hi

What lens would you recommend?
#36
I bought this camera a few months back when Jessops printed their "we will match any price" in a photography mag.

Unfortunately for them Pixmania misprinted the 400D for £210! And Canon had £50 cashback - so I got the camera for £160!

I was very lucky, but having used it for some time now, it is a truly great camera. £300 seems a good price, and knowing now what I do, i'd pay that.

Of course with the new 450D out, the price had to fall sometime.

What user name do they use - sounds interesting

Thanks
#38
I rang up the Colney Hatch store and they had several of these available. Was sorely tempted to get one of these but resisted the temptation in the end.:-D
#39
Are they on offer or is this Sainsburys usual price? I think I'll save up for one if it's normally at this price.
