YAW744 is a Currys code so won't work at Tesco!

Thanks fub
just changed the code to TDX-CLHD and it now works.

I'm wondering how low this can go? Another £30-40 and I'm on top of it. When does the cashback run out?

Was about this time last year I bought my 400D from the hot deal on here, from tesco direct.. Well worth £300 odd quid. Last years deal was £399.99 after cashback If I remember correctly.

This'll be getting rid of stock now, its going to be discontinued in the next few months with the 450D on its way

There should be plenty of 400d's available for a while ... afterall, you can still pick up 350d easily enough.

Canon don't work that way mate - as the other poster above said, you can still buy the 350d new these days, years after the 400d came out. The 350d is still £320 new with lens kit.

The price won't come down for a while, as Canon are notorious for their stock problems with new products.

Really good price and an excellent camera, I have one and its never let me down. HOT!!!
#9
Very very good price. I paid around £370 with the discounts i could manage back in August last year.

Hot hot hot

Great price, I paid around £360 two months ago and thought I was getting it cheap...

Apologies if this touches anybody's nerve, just want an objective reply: Is this better than the Nikon D40?
#12
Best priced brands have 16 in stock at £329 delivered. With the £45 voucher, that makes £284

There are arguments both for Nikon and those against (ala Xbox 360 v PS3).

But, you can't really compare the 400d with the D40 as the 400d is more on a par with the D40x (i.e. both 10mp).

I was looking at getting a D40, and believe me, I've read every review under the sun! I was just about to order one, until most retailers whacked £30-£40 on their price :x

Now this bargain has come along and I'm seriously tempted....

I would say, go to somewhere like Jessops, have a feel of the camera and go for what suits you. I've been in again today and I like both cameras, both feel good to hold, but it's down to personal preference.

The guy I spoke to said that the D40 is more for the person stepping up from point and shoot camera to a DSLR, whereas the 400d is for someone who's looking at getting more into photography. The D40 is basic in regards to the features available immediately to the user (e.g. 1 button settings as available on the Canon) whereas the Canon has loads of menu buttons on the rear of the camera which are very handy.

Some say the kit lens on the Canon is poor in comparison to the D40, but this is debatable, plus most will upgrade their lens within the first year, so this doesn't matter.

Happy shopping

I finally think the 400d is the one for me :-D

.... or do I? ;-)

Canon have stated that the 450D isn't a replacement for the 400D, but will run alongside it.

I am - apologies

I followed a direct link from a search engine for the 400d and didn't think to look at the actual page when I got there - they must have their keywords mixed up

Sound. Didn't know that.
#19
Voted hot for anyone who wants the Canon, but personally I would still get the Nikon D40.
#20
Once again, the 400D vs D40 debate crops up.

Check this post I made a while ago on the subject. Comparing the spec of each camera.
#21
Between the two I am getting the Canon. However, this is mostly due to the fact that I already have two film EOS 300s and the lenses, filters and attachments.... so saves a lot of expense for what is pretty much a personal choice between makes.

GREAT price... now I just have to persuade the missus to let me have one!
#22
I used to have an old EOS old school slr years ago, I now have a basic 7mp fuji which goes through batteries like nothing else I know,

Do these still use lithium?

How long do they last [ Using mederate flash ]

I only ask because I am thinking of getting this camera, and hated being left in the learch with my fuji

I paid £219 for this from PC World as they pricematched a misprint in a photography magazine by pixmania. I managed to buy two and ebayed both making a healthy return and claimed £50 cashback on each one.
i would have kept it but it was just way to technical to use unless you know your photography and how to adapt the different settings to different environments keep well away or you will get really frustrated. I think this camera suffers from lighting under/over exposure, if you google it you will find some threads. It is however great for the people who know what they are doing with it and and also for those who spend a few extra on an expensive lens as they lens thats comes with it isnt of course the greatest. Sorry for the negative comments but if you think that you can just click away and produce fantastic images think again, there are reviews Ive read that people say you need to take images in RAW and then edit them on your PC for great results and I agree thats true but for someone like me with little kids always trying to grab it when its out and you have to be very careful with a camera of this size, you cant just slip it into your pocket its a pullava trying to keep it safe. anyway I can go on and on but I guess you catch my drift now.....The Canon IXUS 960 is highly recommended and the video feature on that is also fantastic for a camera you can slip away in your pocket if anyone knows any great deals on that camera then please let me know...thanks

so what you trying to say is that if you only going to take normal easy pics and know naff all about photography and dont have big pockets buy a Canon IXUS 960..... And if you have kids you cannot edit images in RAW thanks for the opinion there i dont have kids so im buying one

Yes it is the 350 which is 329 not the 400D.

I just picked this camera up on the Curry's deal (works out at £313 I think - still waiting for it to arrive.

Can't go wrong at the price now - take the plunge!

Just bought one, *voted hot*

What memory cards do these take? What size card does it come with if any?

where is the best place to buy one/larger size?

Thanks
#29
They take Compact Flash cards... which is typical, cos I've got a load of SD cards... still, no biggie! Great deal and pleased to say I have now bought one and is on its way.
#30
thanks spoonofmilk,

do people suggest high speed/normal play own brand or scandisk...?

I am assuming play.com is still the cheapest place around for these?

what would 2gb/4gb hold?

thanks
#31
i got a 2gb its roughly about 500 photos in jpeg format.. cracking camera but too cold to go outside..

oh and its a sandisk card i got extreme III
#32
Sandisk are probably best, but I got two 2gig A-DATA ones off ebay for £16 delivered. That'll do me for now!
#33
Ordered, great deal. Had a play with it in John Lewis at the weekend, really light camera yet substantial and feels high quality.

Also got a Sandisk Extreme IV 4GB CF card from play.com to use with it - should be fast enough
#34
triple points at tesco direct until 13th April so makes this deal even hotter!
