Great for a top Christmas present this, and the cheapest I could find on the internet.

The Canon 400D lens kit is at Pixmania for £405...take off 3% QUIDCO - add on your postage, and take off £50 cashback from Canon direct and you're looking at £350.45 for a top camera set.

Not bad...

UPDATE:

A new price on this makes the total (to my calculations anyway) £349.18 after Canon's £50 back, 3% QUIDCO and adding postage.

Under £350 - not bad...
- zarguio

UPDATE:

Another new price - £402 today - means that with all reductions previously pointed out, plus postage - this comes in at £346.84!!!
- zarguio

Voucher giving £11 off £400 is awin071102 and this takes the price for this item (including postage and taking away £50 Canon and QUIDCO) to £336.65
- zarguio

UPDATE: Price has come down to £401 on the Pixmania site, which means with further CANON reductions, PAYPAL and including postage (plus taking away £11 with the aforementioned voucher), the total price for camera now stands at:

£335.83

Not bad!!

You might want to contact them to check that the Canon Promotion is valid on this product. The £50 cashback only applies to UK models... isn't pixmania based in France?

It's probably ok but I'd check first before parting with cash.

This is from Canon UK Promotion Terms & Condition:

Q. Which countries should I purchase the product in to be valid for this promotion?

A. The promotion runs in Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. To be able to claim the cashback, the products must be purchased in one of these countries and you have to be a consumer of an EEA country (i.e. the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein) or Switzerland. The promotion is not open to employees of Canon or members of their family, or to any Canon agents or dealers.

Hmm - good find on the terms and conditions Pet2000...so looks like this one would be valid to claim back £50 from Canon on...£350.45 it is then :) Nice.

Oh dear..shocking that this is only at 13.6 degrees :(
#5
Oops..maybe it isnt that good then...are there any cheaper on the net?

I've voted it hot (although my puny votes don't count for much as I'm a newbie).

I would have bought one myself at this price, only I managed to quickly grab the 10% off Dixons offer on Saturday.

Great price, they're still £430 on the high street and £420 on Amazon

Too true...we have to count the pennies, so to speak. They're definitely coming down in price and, for us purists who don't really want to spend over £400 I think this is the perfect deal...

I agree, in fact I would urge anyone thinking of using them to steer well clear.
There prices may be very good but their customer service is just the worst I've ever experienced, there are no words that can describe just how bad they were in my case.

I have the 350D which cost me around £700 at the time from PC World just as it was taking the place of the 300D and I would recommend to anyone however,

my brother bought his camera from pixmania which was faulty on delivery. As time was of the essence due to impending holiday he had to make a second purchase locally as despite the camera coming from London and them having a London phone number - their policy for replacement / refund is that all returns have to go back to France - consequently it took several months and countless e-mails and letters before he received a full refund of the camera and postage not to mention the frustration suffered along the way - In my opinion if you can find one physical on the high st that can get close it is worth spending an extra few quid

Fabulous. I'm inclined to go with Pixmania still as you'll get QUIDCO back...the manual is in French although you can download an English copy.

...Amazon have the reputation of course however.

Six of one, half a dozen of another I suppose...what would you go for?
#22
I would go with Amazon.

Have heard too many ppl ending up with continental plugs for their battery chargers that are supplied with the canon cameras so it wont be only the manual that you'll have to change.

Personally i would deal with amazon and fork up the extra than deal with a french company with a poor customer relations record.

Hmm - I suppose so. A good point. Just a little point that if you need the camera when you're away on holiday to the Continent, its actually a good thing that you have an EU plug...just my two penneth...

...how many people have to buy an adapter to use their device abroad?! :)

The 400D is the replacement for the 350D and is a slightly better spec camera.

With the £50 cashback offer on the 400D, it's around the same price as 350D deals right now. You would need to find one at £300 or less to make that a better buy IMO

Yep, but no QUIDCO back on it unfortunately...their t&c on QUIDCO state that they dont honour cashback if you've already used a voucher. Looks like Pixmania are the best right now...

PLus of course, the £30 off £300 at John Lewis has now finished :(

Several people have warned you about Pixmania, their customer service is one of the worst in the industry, If you buy from them and the camera is fine great, you have saved £20, If you have a problem you will curse the day you ordered from them.

Absolutely. We live in a buyer-beware society. I've ordered over two dozen things from them over the years and never once had a problem. Others have come unstuck.

I'm not here to proclaim that one company provides better service than another - this thread was purely about price. Sorry - hope that one's clear :)
