Nice, wish I was rich.

Thats a good deal! I paid £1870 after cashback last June.

There is a new replacement due spring next year but this is an excellent camera!
#6
How much????!!! Has the world gone mad? :w00t:

this is pretty much a professional camera - hence the price. I have had one for a year and it is awesome. The lens is L series which is the top Canon range.

Don't even consider this if you are not sure....but it is a great piece of kit.

cheapest I can find is £1654.75 delivered. (after cashback)

If you want the flexibility and quality of a canon SLR go for an EOS 400d. If you're a pro and you know you want one of these go for these. Or if you have lots of money and want to get one anyway :D

This is the full frame sensor model, would love one of these if I had the cash :)

i see devon cameras have it at the same price

i wonder if the price of this is coming down due to the new one being released(sometime in the near/distant future...no one really knows)

That is a very good price! Still waaaay above what I am willing to pay - you can still get excellent results from a sub £1000 camera.

They're a complete ****** to keep the sensor clean though. :-(

So in a nutshell, what's the extra £1,290 buy you in case i wan't to upgrade?

But then i guess if I have to ask......

Read the specifications as its too much list, however the big plus of this camera is that its full frame. The nearest equivalent FF camera is approx 4.5k though I believe Nikon are about to present a FF camera to the market but dont expect it to be less than 3K.

edited to add:

Beginners should stick with the 400d as its a good learning tool, you will only probably want to upgrade once the features of the camera limit the type of shots you are trying to achieve (you will know exactly what I mean as you progress). The good news however is that the lens are completely interchangable.

Thats a lot of camera and lens for the money. Voted Hot!

I'm so tempted to get rid of my 30D and upgrade to this

Got a couple of these and have to say I find them a really nice camera. The full frame sensor is the main attraction as it makes the 70-200L lens far more practical.
The 24-105 lens is pretty much the perfect match for the camera, though I do find it can be a little slow for low light work.

I also have a couple of 20d's but it’s the 5d I always use when I only have one chance to get the shot, I suppose that is what makes it worth the extra money.

any thoughts on the new Nikon D300 ?
#19
One other thing to remember with this camera is that not all lenses are compatible. Canon EF-S lenses (400d/40d kit lens etc) and crop sensor specific lenses from other manufacturers will not work as they should.

I also found that this camera really highlights lens flaws with lower quality lenses.

Although I purchased mine during the last cashback offer, I only wanted the 5D body, as i prefer to use prime lenses and it works out cheaper to buy this package inc. kit lens and sell it as new after you claim all the cash back.

Sold my new 24-105 on ebay for around £525 IIRC which would make the 5D body only around £1100.

Most might think thats still expensive, which it is, but if you don't know the benefits of this body, then it's probably not for you....

I'm getting the impression that a fair few of the Canon users here frequent on POTN.

Am i right?

The problem with purchases from stateside is that bodies are not covered under the Canon International Warranty but lenses are. So yes, you could technically buy a 5D and lens cheaper from somewhere like B&H in NY but if you have an issue with your body, you'll have to send it back which could be very costly.

Just had a check and the current price in NY for the same kit is $2999.99 which works out to roughly £1450.00. Not a bad saving but I'd hate to have an issue with the body.
