Why is this being voted cold?

This was voted quite hot at £149 with a case not long ago so why the negative voting?

Hot, brilliant camera for the price.

voted cold. is very old model, newer model is 970is, newest model is 980is.
pay £80 extra, you can buy a SLR. give you more fun, much better picture quality.
for compact one, many deals are cheaper than this.

Seems like a great price to me

I have voted hot.

However please note that this camera has a major issue. Although this camera is fitted with a larger than normal sensor it still suffers from noisey images even at ISO 200. IS (Image stabilisation) will counteract this a bit, but unless you are looking to crop heavily, or intend to create large pictures (a3) you will see no benefit from this 12mp camera. You will certainly suffer with low light photography where 400 ISO is essential and 800 ISO is far better.

Those that say this is an older model, please note in the world of compact digital cameras, newer certainly does not = better. My Fuji F30 will outperform all of the latest Canon's bar a few in nearly all areas. It is however a 6MP camera discontinued 2 years ago.

As always DYOR

Sorry to pick on you.

It's better to have a compact in your hand than a DLSR in your car boot or at home. Believe me, from experience I know what I'm saying here.

They both have there uses. I have both

The age of the model doesn't really matter here, the quality does!

Firstly, the camera is less than a year old, it has gathered great reviews at nearly double the asking price here and is a great camera overall. Please, do not vote cold because you do not understand that newer does not always equal better, and that last years high end will always beat this years mid end.

You will not find a compact digital camera of this quality at £129, so stop voting cold people.

Edit: Also, this shouldn't be compared to a low end DSLR, the markets for both are totally different and should not be compared.

I'd love to have an DSLR that will slip into a pocket like an Ixus, can you show which one you are recommending? ;-)

Personally I'm waiting for the the 980is to come down in price. Lack of full manual control is my main gripe with my Ixus 60.

There are some keen prices on the G9 too if you want full control, however no quite so pocketable

unfortunately the 970 IS is a hideous camera

Is the Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS Camera on Amazon for £119.99 a better camera or are they much the same from a point and shoot point of view??
#12
This is an amazing camera. It's also the best reviewed ixus camera ever basically. See dphotojournal for evidence. The newer 970 has been very badly reviewed for it's styling. I got my 960 stolen so opted for the 870 because of the similarities. But this is the best compact camera deal that I've ever seen on this forum.

I also have a dslr and agree that sometimes a dslr is not for everyone.

The IXUS 80 IS is rated as a very good camera.

The mother of all camera review sites, as far as I am concerned anyway, can be found at:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

The models are usually reviewed with the US model number (Elph vs IXUS) the cross referencing of which can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ixus which gives the US name of the IXUS 960IS camera as the SD950IS

Thank you to Lyrrad for pointing out the free case which I have added to the post.

this doesn't have the 'angled lense' does it?

FYI all, down to £117.50 now.

Could you please reference your source for these comments? Everything I have read has been positive:

"What is surprising though is that its greatest strength lies in an area where high-resolution compacts are normally at their weakest: image noise at high ISO settings. The 960 produces better quality pictures at 800 ISO than most 10MP or even 8MP cameras, and at the lower settings the image quality is simply stunning, with perfectly sharp detail and no trace of noise at all."
