wow, cheap......cant justify it at mo but its a very good lens

oh look the muppets have voted it cold because it costs 20X their tudtonic camera from asda/tesco

mind you i got a bargain when i bought my 24-70 L for £700 2 years ago (they were >£1100 then, still £870 now!)

Great deal. Shame many vote cold on things they have little or no clue about....

is it better than my Vivitar V8018 ?

Yep, used AJ Electronics a few times and they're fine. Great price for this. Just bought a 550d and would love this but sadly I don't think I can throw my money around!?
#9
Eight hundred quid? Crazy, but if enough people think its worth that then so be it.
#10
Top lens but I could think of another Canon lens I would rather buy
#11
Cracking price, well worth the upgrade for all those out there with the MKI version
#12
Great price for a superb piece of kit.

If you normally take your ebay pics with a phone, don't bother reading this thread. (_;)

Definitely HOT!
#13
absolute bargain at that price. Wish I had the cash spare as this would be a definite buy!
#14
This would go lovely with my 5D mkII and the steadicam
#15
Cracking price that, pity I'm a Nikon user and their 24mm F1.4 is £1800!!!!!!

I'm so tempted. The only thing is that I already have the 24 - 105mm L and very rarely shoot at 24mm. The lens on m camera most of the time is my 70 - 200 l f4. It's an amazing price!
#19
Just ordered a 70mm Sigma Macro from onestopdigital (shipped today from HK, arriving tomorrow!) - would love to be able to afford this... :( voted hot.
#20
Voted hot but sadly can't afford it :(

May well explain the price, there is a big difference between the two, especially if you are shooting full frame.

Probably a reasonable price if it is the MKI, really great price if it's the MKII
#22
Can't justify buying it. Already have the 50mm f/1.2 and the 16-35mm f/2.8

Other than the occasional wedding or portrait variation shot, I can't see where I would use this. Certainly not for landscapes.

Eight hundred quid? Crazy, but if enough people think its worth that then so be it.

Well, it is a great lens. Although one of the reason it is so expensive is that it needs to leave enough space for the mirror. A construction without a mirror would allow a much simpler lens to be used. Mind you, Leica does exactly that, and the lenses are certainly not cheaper!

Personally I am perfectly happy with a very affordable 50/1.8, and a decent zoom for wide angle. Although I would like something around 18mm...

Good point, I can't believe Canon designed this to be used with their own cameras, bring back the pinhole I say ;)

Seems too cheap? And here was me thinking that cheap deals were the point of this site.

It's 'worth' what someone is prepared to pay for it. It's an exceptionally high quality piece of kit which will hold it's value for many years.

In the hands of a good photographer it's a fantastic tool.

having said that i always thinks slr lens are way overpriced

Guys , I believe this is not the II version of the lens. 2511A005AA part number from the site is the first version. Getting colder. You might want to call to confirm.
#33
So tempting, but as I alreadly have the 35L (among others), I can't justify it :(

Awesome lens at a great price.
#34
Must be a mis-price no?

#35
As mentioned earlier, this is the 24mm L Mk1 lens (which is no longer made) and not the newer improved Mk2 lens which replaced it.

Still a good price!

I used to own 35L, 85L & 135L primes which I sadly sold before the huge price hikes. I wish I hung on to them a bit longer now.....
#36
It's a good price if you are a professional photographer who needs this lens but for the average punter who doesn't make a living from taking photos it is a total waste of their money.
#37
Don't forget there is some kind of voucher flying around that gives a lot of cashback (I think it was £200) off Canon.

EDIT. Forget that, it is Nikon with the cash back. Sorry
