Canon = Superb. If this price holds up it is a cracking deal!

This is an excellent lens at a very good price, if Amazon honours it ! It is a great replacement for the basic18 - 55 lens that EOS camera usually ships with. The 28 - 135 is about the best general purpose lens available for EOS cameras.
#5
As previously stated cheapest price on www.camerapricebuster.co.uk is £288.
I have this lens, it's excellent, even better value is the Canon 55-250 IS* lens, which I also have, available for £168 through the above site.
* Image stabiliser

ordered, lets see what happens.
#7
I know its not quite the same, but the same Lens is available on Ebay for around £200 plus shipping..so only slightly more
#8
great find. wonder if it will stay that price?

you can always go for the 28-105mm IS USM II at warehouse express http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=12838 which is £174
#9
I've got one of these, superb. I ordered it from ebay US though, very cheaply :)
#10
I've had one of these for just over a year now. its a truly lovely lens. i was lucky and got mine for £230 at a time when it was pretty much £300 everywhere else.

at £200, its a complete BARGAIN. get yourself this and the 50mm f1.8 prime and youre set. of all my lenses, the 28-135IS is the one i use nearly all the time.

if you want to see some photos taken with it, heres a few from a gig last year: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=15705&l=370b3&id=546265795

I got the 400d via the tesco deal a couple of months ago, and reading your comments have ordered, thanks op fingers crossed.

Can anyone recommend the best macro lens for my eos model?

cheers

For those of you who want to read up on a review, I always refer to this webiste. Here's a link to the actual review. It's a bit techie so be warned.

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-28-135mm-f-3.5-5.6-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

Hopefully it's helpful to someone. I think it's a great general lens that is a bit of an all-rounder. Handy just to take this on holiday without haveing to take other lenses with you.

Cheers

wait why is this lens so special what does it do
#15
I've got the canon 60 macro lens and its awesome. bit pricey though. the 50mm is a brilliant low cost lens.

Great Amazon deal - ordered instantly!
#16
uh oh, another tempting offer. Bought the 400d through the dixons deal few months back, and was looking at the 50mm prime lens (hopefully a bday pres in few wks time), but this additional lens might be too tempting to refuse, damn.
#17
That isn't a bad price for what is a nice walk around lens for something like a 5D ie a full frame sensor but be aware the for the EF-S 1.6 crop cameras (ie 400D, 450D, 40D etc) you will be giving up virtually all of your wide angle capability making this nowhere near as useful a focal range as the kit lens IMO. The effective focal length on these bodies becomes the equivalent of 44mm-216mm ie you will be stepping back a lot. For these cameras the 17-85mm or at a push the 24-85mm make more sense, but if you only shoot from a distance then this could be a winner as the IS will be useful. But - hey what do I know - I am a Nikon man!

Sweet. Hope they donour this deal...

Probably not mis-price.

The retail price in america is around $400.

And there are a lot on ebay which is brand new only cost £199

Not very attractive

it has Image Stabilization. basically it helps reduce camera shake in low light. the IS gives you a couple of extra F stops meaning youre more likely to come out with a sharper picture when taking photos in low light without the flash.

i use it mainly for gig photography, and compared to a "standard" (ie non IS) lens I get much better photos.

if youre looking for low light photography lenses and want something that lets a lot of light in, then you could always stump up a similar amount for a 50mm f1.4 prime, but you dont have the versatility that the 28-135 gives you.

everybody knows that lenses are cheaper in the US and hong kong. the ebay ones might be £199, but you usually have obscene delivery charges on top plus the chance you may get hit with import taxes.

£199 from amazon means £199. no hidden extra costs, plus if something is wrong with it, you dont have to ship it all the way back to asia.
#26
Paid £300+ for this a year ago, very good 'walkaround' lens for all purposes.
#27
Excellent, been looking out for a lens like this. Ordered.
#28
Up to £299.99 now, so time to wait and see whether they come (i hope so...I was thikning about getting this lense again just the other week).
#29
Raised by a neat £100. Hope you guys are all lucky.....good luck.
#30

Probably not. Amazon don't honour misprices in my experience. You would just have got an email in a couple of days time saying tough luck and inviting you to purchase at the higher price.

Not true, I got items from amazon which where clearly mispriced even though they weren't in stock when I ordered.
#35
Just had mine cancelled, nevermind. Thanks OP for the heads up but better luck next time!
#36
I've had mine cancelled too :-(
#37
Ordered yesterday. Had email this morning saying it had been incorrectly priced and they would not honour the price.
Big thumbs down for Amazon, especially as I've now got to cancel the lens hood I'd ordered with it. :-(
#38
Looks like my order was cancelled too (can't access my email from work, but there is no record of the order on Amazon). Ah well, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that. Would have been nice if they honoured the price.

If you want it for similar price Clearancebargains on EBay (Argos) have them on buy it now for £199.99 + £6.99 P+P which is where I got mine all brand new.
#40
I've just had the e-mail from Amazon cancelling my order due to it being the wrong price- very disappointed!
