Good price - I wonder if there is any chance of £25 cashback? http://www.canon.co.uk/wintercashback

Argos listed as "trusted etailer": http://www.canon.co.uk/Where_to_Buy/For_Home/Canon_Authorised_Etailers/index.aspx

Why would this be cold?

I bought one of the 40mm from Amazon a few weeks back and ended up paying £94 with the cashback - £83 would have been better.

I wish it wasn't christmas as I'd buy the zoom as well.

I want to buy a new camera but have spent far too much already. Will have to wait until jan/feb now.

This is a really nice prime lens. I've got it and it's grate for this money. Very small and light and sharp

This will not be eligible for the cashback-Canon will outsource the cashback processing to another company and as soon as they see the word ebay, regardless of the retailer they will reject it. I have come across the same thing before with other cashbacks and argos ebay. By all means contact them to check though.

great lens, I got one this time last year from eBay. (not Argos) but canon wouldn't pay the cash back with it being ebay

supposed to be really good but looks moronic on a dslr (imo), good for transport i guess though!

It is. I borrowed one from one of my friends to try for myself and it's very sharp with quick, silent autofocus. I've been after one for a while but this deal has just come at the wrong time for me. I'll keep an eye out for any more deals in the new year when I've cleared my overdraft!

And yes, it does look a bit silly on a big DSLR body!

Yeah, it does look kind of mis-proportioned on a larger dSLR (like my 7D and grip). But where this lens works well for me is on my EOS-M with adaptor. About a 65mm full-frame equivalent, making it brilliant for close up people shots - almost starting to get into portrait range, and really nice bokeh.

Small lenses on big cameras never bothered me. My first 'real' camera was a Zenit(h) B - I couldn't afford the f2.0 50mm lens, so spent all of my £16 if I remember correctly on the same camera with a f3.5 50mm lens which was tiny in comparison to the f2.0

Anyone else here have a Zenit(h) B?

Yes I had a Zenith 35mm SLR, wish I had never sold it, if you took your time using the manual settings it produced some superb photos, traded it in against a Pentax ME Super, which I traded in against a Olympus E420, oh why oh why did I sell that E420 - it was really small and took fantastic digital photos, now I have to admit to owning a Canon EOS 6D. its good, but I still feel nostalgic about the Zenith.....real film :)

Don't be so negative and pessimistic. Canon have just confirmed my claim for £25 cashback has been accepted. I sent them the ARGOS receipt that Argos emailed me when the lens was despatched. It mentions that Argos Outlet is just a trading name of Argos and there's no mention of Ebay.
I hope this helps others as the lens is great and not available anywhere at this cashback price

Thanks for the info, have just ordered one from Argos ebay :) , has anyone received the Canon £25 cash back yet? Camera price buster have Jessops as the cheapest at £147 with no mention of Argos online, thats why I am asking, thanks

I had the Zenith as well and I now use the lenses with my Canon which gives them a whole new lease of life. Just needed an M42 to Canon EF adaptor which was £7 from Amazon. It even has focus confirmation. All lenses are manual as originally but its good fun to use and if the lenses were Canon ones would now cost a fortune to but. Theres also numerous on Ebay under M42 lenses so a cheap way to get great lenses. Have a look ; )
