Premium on every lens for IS with Canon because they refuse to put the IS into the body (so does Nikon). How long can they sustain that?

Sure but this price is equivalent to most non IS lenses.

Besides, that issue has nothing to do with this offer, this is still the best price available!

I've used this lens a lot (I don't own it but had access to one) and can confirm the image quality is very good for the price and "reach" ie 250mm. A lot of consumer zooms stop at 200mm and produce less crisp pictures. The IS works very well and makes up the f4-5.6 in low light, but the enthusiasts will still aspire to freeze action in low light which of course this would struggle compared to a f2.8. I find it compares very well with my 70-200 f4 L in terms of use (probably easier to use due to IS and weight) but falls short of ultimate image quality.

But as a starter lens at this price - you wont find a better lens for your Canon 350d, 400d, 450d, 500d, 30d, 40d, 50d.

Voted hot at the normal price, voted very hot at this price.

So YOU know better than the Canon engineers then?

Canon and Nikon arguably produce the finest lenses and the best ones often has IS to supplement the special glass. Match a good lens to a body (Nikon or Canon) and it will out perform any system with "in-body" IS.

I had this lens on my crop before I went full frame and the quality wasn't far off my 70-200 L lens. At this price, I'd snap one up if I needed it.

Fair enough, havent much experience with camerabox to comment, although i did order the lens so ill let you know what happens when it arrives!

Was the lens itself ok despite the box?

But if you like the lens but are put off by the website, buyacamera.co.uk are doing it for a couple of quid more, they seem to have good reviews.

I ordered this lens from Camerabox in August. Glad I bought it as for the price with IS its a very good deal.

I will not be using Camerabox again though as I had to chase up a couple of times for delivery of my order.

Good lense for the price but imo might be worth paying a few quid more with a different retailer.

Ive heard lenses are cheaper in the US, worth looking into if you know which lens you want, but you can often find competitive prices in the UK if you look hard enough.

Check out camerapricebuster.co.uk, its a price comparison website which you can get a rough idea as to the best price available here.

You can also try buyacamera.co.uk and camerabox.co.uk (accepting the bad points) but I would avoid websites shipping from the far east as you will probably get caught out on the VAT.

I've used this lens on a 40d and it works well. The lens will feel light on the body and you will get very good results once you have played about with it for a while (same with any other new lens) You won't get this focal range with IS and this quality at a better price, you can go cheaper and you will sacrifice range and/or quality. Will you notice the difference in quality? If you pixel peep you will without a doubt. On the average 7x5 print, you may be pushed to tell the difference between this other lenses.

There are many reviews out there that confirm this is a good lens. I would recommend this lens if you need the extra reach and cannot justify the cost of the 70-200 f4 L or 70-200 f4 L IS. The cheapest for 70-200 f4 L is £489 in camerapricebuster ( a bit above your declared max but probably cheaper in the States), and this lens is in a different league in terms of acuracy and speed of focus, build and image quality, but bigger and heavier and NO image stabilisation.

Hey Guys,

Just to let you know the lens did turn up, one day late but delivered with manual in a white box.

Working perfectly and happy with my purchase but in retrospect prob wouldnt use camerabox again as im pretty sure they are grey imports actually.

Would consider buyacamera though, seem to have pretty good reviews online and quite well thought of.

Enjoy your lens, don't forget it will take time to get used to it. It's a cracking lens for the money.
