It depends on the second hand prices I guess. The 1000d is probably more of a direct descendant of the 300d being the canon entry level DSLR whereas the 30d was more prosumer level and a bit bulkier and more robust with better components. You can compare features here but will have to put the cameras in yourself

I'm no camera expert but the 1000d has been out for nearly 2 years now so may be due an upgrade so might be worth waiting for some deals.
