I strongly advise not buying from this company, while they claim to be canon they are not, they are a different company selling under canons name. The product they sent me was not refurbished and broken upon use. Which is fine as mistakes happen however their customer service is absolutely useless. You will never get a response or even your money back. It took 3 weeks for me to get my money back and I had escalate the case with eBay to look into, who deemed canon_uk1 (eBay seller) as totally incompetent. My advice is if want to take the gamble and the hassle go for it otherwise buy from a reputable place cause you will regret it. Look at that negative feedback all echo what I am saying.

Good camera, great price.
Considering there's an awful lot of basic 'point and shoot' cameras at this price, it's worth going for this.
The APS-C sensor is such a step up.

+1 for the seller having no official yours to Canon.

They clearly say that their company name is Digital River, this has been said many (many) times before...

Feedback from last 12 months, 5,000 happy, 70 unhappy, I'd have said that was better than a lot of the companies who have deals listed here.

The OP deal comes with a 12 month warranrty, and is cheaper...

In the world of eBay power sellers 98.5% feedback is actually below par, 0.5-1% is a big difference when dealing with 1000s of feedback. Either way see your point about feedback but there is common theme with their feedback, which is that they have poor customer service and feedback, this is incredibly frustrating and wronging especially when you are dropping so much money. When you pay for a product you pay for a service too but in this case you do not get that. Anyways as I said take the gamble if you want but having gone through the problems with them and time wasted which I will never get back I would say stay clear. Also it says a lot about a company that has that much negative feedback all citing a identical problems spanning over a year, yet they don't clean up their act.

In the world of eBay power sellers 99% of them are selling Chinese goods for pennies, so expectations are naturally going to be lower. I'd say 1.5% on refurbed products was actually pretty good, but obviously if you are unlucky enough to be in that 1.5% that's of little comfort.

You buy a discounted refurbed product and you are obviously taking a risk to an extent, but that's what the warranty is for, admittedly they don't help you with poor customer care, but I've found eBay/PayPal very good at escalating things on the few times I've needed them to.

p.s. I've never used these guys personally, just wanted to correct the above statements.

Ordered on Friday and received it today.
The camera was shipped and packed by canon uk. The return address is also canon uk. Seems like the eBay seller is just an agent selling on behalf of canon.

It came in the original box and everything was sealed like new so I'm not sure why it was sold as refurbished. Works perfectly fine and it's all unused.
Great seller.

I'll post pictures soon :D

Update: this must be discontinued stock, seems new to me.

I ordered one yesterday and received it today, only 23 hours after placing my order! - As others have said it's new.. all the booklets, CD's, camera, strap, battery and charger etc are in the sealed box and all in sealed packaging.

It's my first SLR, and what a difference to my old digital cameras - not complicated to use, takes great photos on the auto setting, I've not tried the other settings yet, but expect I'll be delighted with the results when I do. Really chuffed I bought this, I very much doubt I'd get a new SLR for under £200 anywhere else. Thanks for posting!

Morning.
I've been thinking about getting the canon 500D.
Does anyone know if the 1100D is better?
Thanks in advance

It's got a DC III lens whatever that means....looking to learn and this looked like the perfect item.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is?

As a simple rule of thumb for Canon the lower the range number, the better the camera.

The 500D is a step-up from the 1100D.

If you're thinking of getting your first DSLR this isn't a great one to get, purely because the lens it comes with doesn't have image stabilisation.
Keep an eye out for the 1100D with an 'IS' lens, which means it has image stabilisation.
I got an 1100D with the IS kit lens from this same Canon store for £199 and it's awesome.

So unless you want to use a tripod 99% of the time to keep the camera steady, I wouldn't advise this one.

I bought from them, turned out to be brand new, no problems 6 weeks later.

I picked up one of these for my son as he is about to start A Level photography at college. Seems pretty good deal for a starter DSLR camera.

Damn. .too late. . Already on its way...I know nothing about photography and looks like I've made a mistake! All the reviews were so positive aswell ; (

So DCIII version of the lens doesn't make a difference then?

I bought one from them and it comes with a 1 year warranty. There was a shutter problem when it was first delivered so I contacted Canon and sent it to them. A few days later it was sent back in perfect working order. The only other issue I had was when using a cheap SD card. Switched to a decent one and the camera is great.
#37
SO whats the verdict, not good enough deal if no IS lens
#39

Still not IS (Image stabilisation) so you'd need a tripod.

If anyone has ordered this and is getting buyers remorse, fear not, It's possible you could sell the lens that comes with it, and just buy the IS lens, one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-EF-S-Zoom-Lens-18/dp/B004MKNBSW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406194394&sr=8-2&keywords=canon+ef-s+is+18-55

I should think you could get one cheaper from ebay or something though.

I've been using mines the last few days (this deal, so no IS), and haven't had any issues with shaky/blurry images - the lens it comes with is really good without a tripod. I'll prob get an IS lens later and appreciate the difference, but for now I've no regrets about buying this - the sharpness of the images are astounding, I was at the Scottish deer centre yesterday, taking photos of birds in flight, deers (of course), wolves, bears, plants the kids - the photos look great.

I'm actually taking pictures of pretty much anything and everything as a result of buying this camera - I've never before felt the need to tell the children to freeze and "don't even breathe", just because of a butterfly landing on a thistle. To be honest I don't even like cliché pics like that.. so hopefully just an newbie SLR phase..

Anyway, just found the B/W setting, best go grab some tyres
