I've been researching the price of the Canon EOS 400D for a few days before buying one and the best price seemed to be around the mid £470's from online stores including delivery.

However, today Jessops have the 400D (Silver) for £469.99 online and instore and this is the best price anywhere. I went in at 3pm today and the manager knew nothing about it until he checked and confirmed it was an offer that started this afternoon.

Also, inside this months Photography Monthly there is a Jessops voucher (at the back) that will allow Jessops to price match any item listed in that magazine (not the online prices but the printed price only) but all the online suppliers have adverts in there with their online prices listed so this counts. I got an additional lens that retails in Jessops for £199.99 for £78.99. The manager said they'll honour any price shown in the magazine as long as you present the actual voucher in store. The voucher is valid until the end of April.

Hope this helps someone...

I have a 350D and absolutely love it, although I won't gain much I am tempted for the extra pixels. Thanks for the post.

May I ask what made you go for this over the Ninon D80?
I am torn between the two!;-)

I've been testing out a mate's 350D and loved it, plus the reviews are all consistent. I didn't consider any other cameras but it seems that people's opinions are pretty much split 50/50 between Nikon and Canon. I guess it's just down to personal preference.

I had a 350d and didnt get on with it, but checked out the nikon d40 and thought it was an excellent deal- if you can still use the codes from jessops it worked out at £425 inc two lenses that emma pointed out

good luck - it's a HARD decision.
I started out having to decide between the 350d and D70s, then moved onto 400d and D80, now I'm torn between the 30D and D200!

The best price shown in the magazine for the black 400D with 18-55 Lens was £479.99 and that's the price they did for me. I decided to go for the black version over the £469.99 silver version so I paid the extra £10 for the privilege.

£479.99 for a high street store is a great price. No delivery charges and you have the back up of the store's knowledge and expertise if you ever have any problems.

Sure, I'm just starting out with SLR's and wanted a simple additional lens for longer distances. I went for the Tamron 55-200mm lens as follows:

TAMRON 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD MACRO (CANON AF)

Paid £78.00 for it as he nicely rounded it down from £78.99 without me even asking! They sell this in store for £199.99.

(The £78.99 price was shown in the Photography Monthly magazine - this is what they priced matched it to, in case you're wondering where that figure came from)

£379.99 for a 400d with 18-55

Are you sure that's right or do you mean £479.99? Which retailer was that with?

From some research I've done in the past it would seem that Nikon provide/produce better lenses and therefore more accurate colours, detail and 3 dimensional pictures. While Canon MAY have some additional features picture quality is what you are after & I believe Nikon to be in front here.

Owning a 300D I can say pictures are very good but not entirely faithful to the original source.
