Hya, I wanted this deal so badly but couldnt find it available at any stores near me, but I checked London and it was available at a few stores so I decided to submit this for those that can get it.

The 2 Lenses you get here are worth around £600 - £700 new combined anyway so basically the camera is £200??!

Thanx.

oh and £30 cashback too from canon and possible quidco :D

I've been watching the EOS 450D + 18-55mm IS Lens at Comet for 449GBP. Is that a good deal?
#8
anyone expecting the 7d to come down in price?

Definately !

nice. Bournemouth store is the best.

the eos 500d deal w/ similar lenses, less than price of 450d and you get hd movies, and filters, and 8gb card:

http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76261/show.html

+ £50 cashback!
#11
thats a tamron lense with yours tim, nto an original canon one.
#12
yeah. the Tamron don't compare with the Canon Lens
#13
I have the Tamron 55-200mm and its a sharp lens, obviously its a budget lens but for the average snapper it should be adequate. 500D is the better package, bigger better screen, HD recording, etc etc
#14
Good deal for those that have one available near, have a look here if you're looking for the ultimate upgrade at a cracking price http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/576599/canon-eos-1ds-mk-iii-body-only-3999

The 17-85mm is £350+ (though it's not amazing) and the 70-300mm is £400, so £750 of lens.

The 70-300mm with the 500D is a £130 lens, the 18-55mm is also £130.

Holy cow I have been commenting thinking that it was the 18-55mm + Extra Lens

This is a cracking deal with those 2 lenses, Hot.
#17
Cracking deal IMO.
I've got the 450D with the 17-85 lens (replaced the stock 18-55) and a Tamron 70-300.

The Canon 17-85 lens is a much, much better all-round lens than the stock 18-55. The Canon 70-300 lens has Image stabilisation something lacking from the comparable Tamron and is a much better lens than the Tamron.
#18
I have both the lenses with a 40D. Although both great, I strongly suggest save some cash as you will also need an additional lense or flash if you are planning to take indoor low light pics.

Nifty Fifty can be bought for under £100 and does the job, but I am waiting out for a sigma 50mm

No Image Stabilisation on Tamron. Better optics on Canon

Not in stock anywhere near me. Shame really as those 2 lenses would be ideal for me.
#23
Don't want to sound rude, but there are too many ppl commenting who don't seem to apprichiate an SLR camera.

This is a cracking deal (and I'm a Nikon user).
Both lenses are great and the 450D is a great little body. The Video on the 500D is not that great really (have you used it?) Both bodies suffer from Pentamirror VF like all cheaper models from all makes.

The lenses are amazing and the 70-300IS is much better than any 3rd party lens

H+R added!
#24
Yea, this deals becomes alot better if you get the cashback and the quidco with this which combined is almost another ton knocked off this price.

The tamron lens (£89 at currys,£99 at Jessops) is hardly a substitute for the Canon 70-300 IS which is £389 alone
#25
How do the 450d and 500d compare to the old 350d that I have, is it worth the investment or best just to spend the money on decent lenses instead?
#26
anyone seen any stock of this anywhere near London?

anyone reserved in london and not planning to collect?

I don't think it's worth the upgrade, but you may disagree. Here's a thread elsewhere which discusses the benefits and drawbacks of this upgrade:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/681393

If you're getting serious about photography, then you may want to think about upgrading to the 40D (about £400 second hand body only, £500 refurbished body only from Canon's eBay shop) as it's in a completely different league.

I currently have the 450D and have used it for a year now. It was my first DSLR and I've gained alot of experience since. It's never let me down, and I'll be upgrading to a 7D in the summer. I'd highly recommend the 450D as a first DSLR.

I'm actually in a good position to talk about these two lenses, having used them for about a year now! The 18-55mm kit lens is a bit rubbish, but it's the same kit lens they bundle all the time with their cameras. It's perfectly fine though - it'll help you build up your skills. The 70-300mm lens included in this pack is amazing. I have it, and it's great. The IS can let you take photos at up to three stops lower (which is ALOT) which often means you can handhold a shot which you wouldn't otherwise be able to. Theoretically it should let you move from ISO800 to ISO200 and still get a good shot. It's one of the best non 'L' zoom lenses out there, and is sometimes referred to as the hidden 'L' lens of the canon series (the 'L' lenses are the very expensive professional lenses). Some example photos of mine:

All these photos were taken using this camera model and the lenses that come with it in this package :-). As you can see, the 70-300 is amazing for nature photography. There's a quite steep learning curve involved - you can't just pick up the camera and throw out amazing shots. But if you experiment with all the settings, read guides online etc. and get advice from fellow photographers (tip: talkphotography.co.uk) you'll improve very fast. :D

I'm sorry, but how is this a good deal? the price of this is waaay to silly in the UK, bought this for my sister September 2008 from Miami, USA for $570 with all it's bits and a 70-300mm lens (not canon) and an 8gb high class sandisk sd card.

You want electronic's, buy yourself a holiday and invest abroad because the VAT in this country is ludacris.

Once i brought home from dubai a whole dvd Cinema system for £200 which at the time was worth £450 in the uk.

Yes, but if something goes wrong it has to get sent back to the USA as the warranty isn't valid in this country. That's one of the reasons you don't go on eBay to buy grey imports. The Canon 70-300mm lens in this deal is far superior to the non-Canon ones. Also, you didn't pay tax on that camera - if you get pulled in by the customs people on your way back into the country you could end up paying way more than you bargained for.

actually i was given a 12month Worldwide Warrenty Card, i didnt mention anything about ebay and why should i pay tax? + the camera was opened and used with the box left back in the USA, so there was no proof that it had been bought from there, and not brought with me from the UK.

Anything's only ever a good deal when considered against its context.
If I wait 5 years and buy this in the bargain basement, does this make todays offer a bad deal?

The value in this package are the specific lenses included. See earlier for the individual price break down.

Savings abroad don't warrant a dedicated journey, lack of box and 'rebel xsi' version will kill your resale market, international warranty and travel with a bag laden with electronics.. sounds like a pain in the bum to me!

Horses for courses I guess!

even the lens itself is over priced by canon, it's more for pro's with companys that buy them cause they can aford them, way to much for the now and then user.

mate i dont sell my electronics, i still have the 300D, 400D, 450D and recently got the 500D from HONG KONG. for £400 with all the bits.

I still have my Nokia classic's (face off, 6210, 8250, 8310, 6510, 8910 etc...)

Priceless! =) not to mention the amount of playstations 1's and 2's i have! haha
