I am after a new camera, and missed the deal with the 400d @ £299, but this is a clear £20 cheaper than the cheapest online with cameraprice buster, and its a hell of a cam.

ITs now £399!!! as Canon's £50 cash back deal has started from 26th June 2008

Wait till next week if you can, if Empire Direct maintains this price, and with the £50 cashback from Canon (26th June - 4th August) would make this little beauty £400 ish

oooooooooooooo i diddnt know this was happenin. Good heads up.

Im after the 450d with the 18-55 IS and the 75-300 IS for fairford next month. Cant wait!

Absolutely storming price - I'm hoping they are still in stock on the 26th!

Don't forget 2% Quidco on Empire Direct too!
#4
*Bump* because the Canon cash-back has started!

(See also the vouchers section here)

It has started and so its very HOT
#6
I still think the best will be to repost it!!!
#7
Empire Direct are not participating in the £50 cashback apparently
#8
Grr :(

Doubly frustrating that when I log on to Empire Direct, it says I have no active orders :( Typical of them.

I'm struggling to find any retailers that are part of this rebate!
#9
Jessops are, I saw it earlier.

Normal price is £499.99 on there.

Sorry about the bad news though, guess Canon dropped the price for the retailers buying them hence ED have undercut everyone else.

EDIT: Can't you call up and cancel (if you want to look elsewhere)?

If it hasn't been delivered by mid afternoon, I'm going to be on the phone to them - I paid for next day delivery after all. It seems that Empire do rather like claiming things are in stock when they aren't. Including voucher, I paid £438.74, which still comes below the Jessops-minus-cashback price. Assuming it does arrive, I will wait a week or so before attempting a claim, just to see if Empire do miraculously explicitly extend their cashback.

To be honest, I think their claim to support Canon cashback, plus evidence on the Canon site would be sufficient to support a case against them. Whether its worth the hassle or not, I dunno. *Crosses Fingers*

In a bid not to tempt fate, I haven't ordered a memory card yet!

Good luck, let us know how you get on

Just had a look on AV Forums and there are some very interesting posts on this thread:

You should be ok!

Interesting thread - I'll examine it closely, still got my fingers crossed.

Just an update - it arrived at 11am. Which was actually faster than if I had nipped into Leeds for it, because they still have to ship it from the warehouse to the shop where you pick it up. All the manuals, packaging etc are UK spec.

I splashed out £17:58 (free postage) at Amazon on PIXMANIA (presumably the mainland Europe one) Class 6 8 GB SDHC Memory Card. (I used my £2:50 HUKD voucher!). From what I can see, that is a pretty good price for a Class 6 card.

So, in return for reading HUKD, it has saved me £2:50(Amazon voucher), 2% (Quidco), 2.5% (Empire Direct code), and possibly £50. Not forgetting that if I had waited until the 1st for Nikon's new camera, prices would have gone up 9%! Thank you HotUKDeals!

Result!

Hope it gives you lots of pleasure! I think I'll take a gamble over the weekend and snap one up too.

im very tempted to get one now with ED but the post on the other thread where someone called up the ED people and got told that are not participating in the Canon 450d cashback is bothering me greatly. :(

If you're worried, get Jessops to price match to ED price and you're home free!

The Jessops I called in Worthing said they only do pricematch from selected retailers, not ED...
#18
I rang Jessops of Cambs today and they would not match!

Said not enough in it as they buy it for £500.00 !!!
#19
John Lewis will price match but ED are out of stock! DOH!

Hope JL hold their price for a bit longer if the rumours of an imminet hike in Canon cameras is true.

Where did you see that ED is out of stock?

#23
Good thing I've ordered it already then
#24
For those awaiting stock from Empire Direct, just got off the phone with them. They said 450D arrived today and will be delivered to me on Monday...
#25
