Seems like the cheapest out there at the moment

The Canon EOS 500D digital SLR features a 15.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, making it ideal for large prints and giving you endless opportunities for creative cropping. With an improved ISO range of 100-3200 which is expandable up to 12800, the Canon EOS 500D produces excellent images even in extremely dim lighting, with a little help from the DIGIC 4 Processor. The additional video capabilities allow you to capture High Definition quality 720P Video with at least a Class 4 SD Card, and a HDMI port enables playback. This kit includes the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS standard zoom lens. It features the smaller size image circle, especially designed for EOS cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor. The focal length is equivalent to approx. 28-90mm in 35mm format.

Prices for this and the D5000 seem to be falling rapidly. I think I'll wait a few weeks and see what happens. good deal from a good supplier tho.

I did that with the 400d..... it went up quite a bit after a series of large drops, you can't always bet on reductions but if you're not desperate you wont lose out in the end

cheaper at amazon as you don't have to pay postage (i think). Would also prefer to buy from Amazon personally.

Yeah...this is exactly what I need so I can see beautiful pictures on my 1 MP 720p HDTV......:whistling: I'm happy with my 8mb camera I got half price for £75, quite why anyone wants 15mp is beyond me. And if someone wants to tell me they can spot the difference between 15mp and 8mp on a 6 by 4 glossy I'm all ears

Maybe for a profensional photographer this is a decent deal (as it appears to be around the best price) but I'm surprised the masses have voted this hot. Cold from me - just going to double my upload time.....

The resolution isn't really that important, the reason for buying an quality dSLR is all about the optics. Better optics = less distortion + more light hitting the sensor = better photo.

If you ever try taking shots in suboptimal conditions, or say make nature shots, you'll soon see the limitations of an compact digital or cheap dSLR.

You'll also see more accurate colour reproduction with an decent camera..

It's not the resolution that makes a dSLR better than a compact. Even if you resize photos to the same size as that from a camera with a lower resolution sensor the dSLR photo should still look better. Better optics allowing more light allow quicker shutter speeds, larger sensors allow higher ISO without as much noise, the camera will have a larger buffer so be able to shoot continually for a few frames....

Please don't post rubbish unless you at least have some idea what you're on about.

That's one funny post. You obviously don't know anything about the technology about this camera. How you can come out with such a stupid statement is beyond me.

I had a 400D, sold it on ebay for more than I paid for it, and upgraded to the EOS450D. An excellent camera in all respects. Save yourself £100 (unless you want video recording facilities then get the 500D)
Amazingly the 450D was cheapest in Argos than any other place on the net at the time

DSLR - Pocket camera = No comparison

+1

I've only got a 6mp Pentax K100D Super, got a couple of cheap 35mm film lens off Ebay for less than £40 and even my snapshot pictures (still learning) are pretty darn good.

I repeat my basic asserion that this camera is spec'd (way) above what the masses of HUKD need or want. I love this place, people moan when you don't give a reason for voting cold, then they moan when you do :whistling:

And I haven't seen anyone claiming to have ordered one yet (but I guess that's about to change) :whistling:

twistedknot-pentax k100 is a **** hot camera, as is equivalant nikon d40. not for me though, i got a sony a100 due to the size(not comfortable with a little camera)
not a fan of canon personally, and £600 is a lot of coin.
may be one of the cheapest, but i feel there may be better ways to spend yer cash.

Er yeah (sarcasm).

Actually no - I vote hot and cold according to me, and so does everyone else according to whether they they think its hot or cold. That's kinda the idea of the site :whistling: You are more than welcome to get this to 5000 degrees despite it not even being the cheapest price available on the interweb for this product :-D But for me, its cold Goodnight

You are soooo wrong and clearly the fact that you are rating a camera on its pixel count alone shows that you should really not be commenting on this deal. ANYONE who knows what they are talking about knows that the lens quality is far more important than the pixel count.

You are totally missing the point of a DSLR, the image quality IS far superior and I assure you that I would be able to tell the difference, again not on pixels but on colour reproduction and sharpness. There is also NO shutter lag on a DSLR which has proved invaluable for taking some fantastic motion shots of my little boy.

Im not a pro, just a keen amateur, all I can say is try a DSLR, if you still can't see why they are so much more than a point and shoot compact then trust me, you clearly dont need one!
