I think it's cheaper from Best Buy at the moment when you include 10% quidco.

I cant decide between this and the Sony Alpha A55

20% quidco at bestbuy now

Bestbuy price showing £649.99 (before quidco).
20% is tempting.

What's the difference in spec between this and the 500d? I've compared them but can't really see any difference.

If this is a much better camera, this would be a good deal as I have a mate who works at comet and lets me use his 10% staff discount. But the 500d is about £100 cheaper.

I bought the same camera, Canon Kiss-X4 (its the 550D but rebadged differently for a diff market). Got it for £520 with the same lens!

From dpreview.com, following differences

•Higher resolution 18MP CMOS with gapless micro lenses
•ISO 6400 no longer in 'expanded' range (12,800 max remains the same)
•Redesigned buttons and new movie/live view button
•Customizable auto ISO ranges
•Improved 63 zone metering (iFCL)
•3:2 format screen with more pixels
•Improved movie functionality
•Slightly higher burst shooting rate (though buffer holds fewer shots)
•HDMI control (CEC)
•SDHX Compatible

I'd love to buy this camera... but in instalments. Does anybody know if any stores selling the 550d have interest free credit? for example if you buy from argos using there argos card you can have upto 12 months interest free.. they are selling the 550d for £714.88. Also anyone know the best voucher codes i can use with Argos if i do go with them?

Is it just me (it's going to sound really racist if it is ><), or does the guy in the picture look like Jackie Chan?

The picture's quite small, and I can't see it bigger anywhere, but there's a resemblance, at least!

DigitalRev (they have an eBay store and an online store). This link is helpful:

p.s. comes with 12 months warranty plus the option of buying an extended cover too!

It's a lot of money to pay for a "slight" chance of seeing something. My other half grew up in the north of Sweden (within the Arctic Circle) and said that she was lucky to see them twice a year even when she lived there. The travel companies taking you up there for a week are a total con as there's a real slim chance of seeing them.

I've spent about 8 weeks in total (winter time) up there and have still to see them yet.

Thanks for that :) It looks like the cheaper 500D is the better option for me as I wouldn't appreciate any of those features. I don't want the 450D as it doesn't have live-view on the LCD screen.

I'm spending 11 nights in the arctic circle - if i dont see them at least i get a welcome break from the OH ;)

The 500D does full HD video in 20 frames per second, the 550D can do 30 frames.

Useful info. Thanks. Off topic I know but is there anywhere where there is a good chance of seeing them ?

It is Jackie Chan.

As much as I love my 550D, the Nikon D3100 is better value but I voted hot as it is a good deal if you are upgrading from a 350D or 1000D and you want to keep your lenses and not change system.

Jackie Chan can be yours for only £604.99!

is that jackie chan????
#27
Jackie Chan still one of my favourite actors from the fair east!, Him and Stephen Chow are awesome!

My brother managed to pick up a Canon 400D from fleaby recently for around £250, i am wondering if just investing in a better more expensive lens would be a good idea as opposed to investing in this more expensive model?

How do you know if comes with a warranty? Canon's own warranty will not apply if you are using a foreign version.

I have a 450D and can say that it does have live view. Only in manual modes, but that's probably the same as the other cameras.
I'll be upgrading from my 450D to the 550D, mainly for the video options, as soon as I next get paid.
(Anyone want a 450D?)

Edit - just checked out DigitalRev's eBay shop, as mentioned by Sc0TTy, and they are currently doing the Canon Kiss X4 550D+18-55mm lens kit with 12 month warranty for £479! They get shipped from Hong Kong, though, so you may have to pay some import tax - did you have to, Sc0TTy?

Bestbuy price showing £649.99 (before quidco).20% is tempting.

WOW...Now that is a deal... Scorchio infact..!!

I recently bought the 500d with IS Lens on Amazon for £475 and thought that was a bargain, but could now have had it from bestbuy for £412 after quidco.

Or even better I would have went for the 550d at £520 after quidco...

Gutted now, I am !!!!!

The Nikon D3100 is a great camera for the money, no denying it. The 550D gets you some nice extras though - better low light capability, 4 more megapixels, more flexible video modes (including slow-motion) and a nicer LCD screen, to name the most obvious.

The 550D is like a lighter, smaller EOS 7D, missing a few of the controls and advanced features, but getting you essentially the same image quality as its bigger brother. The 7D is about as good as it gets until you go to a full-frame sensor, so the 550D is great value for money.

Live view on the 550D is just a one button press on and off, 450D its just so fiddly

Awesome, far better deal. Ordered the 550d from Bestbuy, let's hope it tracks! Thanks Will4Long

I've paid and everythings confirmed however nothing has come up in my quidco, I know it won't track for a while but shouldn't it atleast acknowledge the transaction?

I tried to order via Quidco but after 2 unsuccessful attempts I rang Bestbuy to be told that there has been a problem between Quidco and Bestbuy websites. They said this has been ongoing for about five days and to keep trying as they are trying to resolve it.
My first experience with both these companies is frustrating so far.... There's a deadline for the Quidco 20% offer so let's see if it's sorted before it expires!

Jackie Chan is ace and Stephen Chow is awesome. 8)

Camera not too sure :p
