It's actually £456.50 after £30 canon cashback. Not £456.50 with £30 canon cashback...

Still a good price :)

What would be a good starter lens (lenses) for this?
#4
just buy the 50mm 1.8 prime ..can be picked up around the £80 mark.
#5
or the tamron 17-50mm 2.8 for a general walk around lens
#6
£80 more for the canon with the lens kit.

You would be better off purchasing the Canon EOS 550D Digital SLR Camera (inc 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit) from Amazon which with the £30 off comes to £539.60,the lens has image stabilisation and is perfect for the camera.

Thanks for the answers folks.

Thank you for taking the time to participate on the forums. The price has been amended as the listed deal price should be the price you have to actual pay the retailer to purchase the item before any retrospective discounts/cashbacks are applied, thanks again.

Presumably adding something like "£30 cashback available" in the title would be acceptable?

I have the 450d which is a lower spec camera than this one but I love it, simple to use and the quality it produces is absolutely excellent. Voted hot.

superb deal ive had this camera for about a year and its fantastic ive been using the tamron 18-270mm lens on it with good results.at this price its a steal.
ive also recently invested in a canon 24-70mm f2.7L and its fantastic on this crop sensor camera.

i can only see all canon products rising in price this year so if your into your photography the time is now to get your gear.

I have a 450D and it is indeed an excellent camera, but I am looking to upgrade to the 550D for the extra 6mp and video features. Personally I'd go for the Canon 550D + 18-55m IS lens kit - it's a decent lens and its better value buying it with the camera.

Would love to upgrade, got the 18-55 and the 75-250 IS lens kit with my 450 which I understand will fit the 550D.

I have a 15 year old Canon EOS analogue SLR - does anyone know if the lenses from that far back work with the current Digital SLR's?
#16
Bought this 2 weeks ago for £509....typical !!!!

Very pleased though, upgraded from 450d which was also excellent, but wanted the video element and extra pixels as i crop shots fairly often... HEAT added :-)

My son uses this camera for the BMX videos he shoots and posts on his website. The HD quality is fantastic. Link is an example. His site is here for any BMX lovers.

If they are Canon EF lenses then they will fit fine mate. Its the old FD lenses that don't fit...

I've had the 550D ever since my 400D died after 5yrs long service lol. Great camera! I have a battery grip attached cos my hands are big and without the grip my little finger wanders off. I've got the Canon 50mm f1.8 MK1 (the original with metal mount), Canon 28-135mm IS and a 440EX with a 2 pint milk bottle as a diffuser :)

I have the 550d and it says it will work with all canon lenses as long as they are EF with the red or white dot on the barrel.

Well on my 350D I've had old screw mount lense (Zeiss M42 mount) and Zeiss for Contax cameras (Contax mount) and another make I can't recall... oh Vivitar with some other lens mounts...so I'm sure you could find an adapter for your old FD lenses to fit EF. No AF thats all.

Nice vid. I've not even looked into the HD video capabilities properly...the one I did try couldn't be played on me old rig. One day i will get that new PC. Could do with a faster frame rate though as i could see each frame on the faster parts but maybe thats the website limits not the original vid.

The video on these is fantastic, here are the cashback details.
