* 21.1MP full frame CMOS sensor
* DIGIC 4 processor
* ISO range expandable to 25600
* Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording
* High-res 3.0" VGA LCD with Live View
* 3.9fps JPEG shooting up to card capacity
* 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points
* Magnesium alloy body

Extend the boundaries of your photography.

21.1 Megapixel full frame CMOS sensor
For the ultimate in creative shooting, the EOS 5D Mark II features a full frame CMOS sensor (36mm x 24mm). With no cropping or magnification effects, enjoy a true wide angle experience through the large, bright viewfinder. Redesigned pixels minimise noise, while a 21.1 Megapixel resolution surpasses the standards demanded by the leading picture agencies.

DIGIC 4
Canon's DIGIC 4 works with the EOS 5D Mark II's image sensor to deliver outstanding reproduction of colours and subtle tonal gradations. DIGIC 4 also delivers split-second start-up times, Face Detection AF in Live View mode, and additional HD movie recording.

High ISO
For handheld shooting in low light, the EOS 5D Mark II offers ISO speeds of up to 6400. For dark scenes where using flash is undesirable, this can be expanded to an incredible ISO 25600.

Full HD movie recording
The EOS 5D Mark II complements outstanding still imaging capabilities with Full HD (1080) video recording. Users can even shoot video to memory card without losing the ability to capture still images. An HDMI connection allows High Definition playback of footage and images on an HDTV.

3.0" High Resolution LCD
The 3.0" Clear View LCD features 920,000 dot resolution, wide viewing angle and dual anti-reflective coatings - allowing ultra-detailed image review in a variety of conditions. Live View displays real-time images on the LCD, offering three types of auto focus: Quick AF, Live AF, and Face Detection Live AF, which locks onto faces detected in the frame.

Up to 3.9 frames per second
The EOS 5D Mark II offers continuous shooting at 3.9 frames per second. When shooting JPEGs to a UDMA card, maximum burst is limited only by card capacity.

9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points
Precision auto focus is assured by Canon's AF system, which employs 9 selectable points and 6 Assist AF points.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System
Canon's built-in dust prevention system offers three ways of guarding images against the effects of dust: reduction of internal dust generation; an in-camera sensor cleaning mechanism; and the ability to map stubborn dust spots for removal with Digital Photo Professional software (included).

Durable, compact design
With a magnesium alloy construction, environmental protection and shutter durability of 150,000 releases, the EOS 5D Mark II is equally suited to location or studio work.

Does anyone have any evidence that Jessops are about to go bump... I have been reading it on here now for at least 18 months :)
#15
Jessops have seemed like that for years waaaaay back I used to repair the IT stuff at the HO in Leicester and they seemed to be falling apart then lol so I take it with a huge pinch of salt.

Having said that went into Chapelfield store in Norwich Friday and the place was empty all the shelves and stock from the middle of the sales floor was gone and it was just a huge empty space, the lens cabinet that normally has loads in it only had about 8 Tamron lenses and to be honest it had a real air of closing down sale about it like when Borders went and they were selling off the fittings whilst the store was open...

The headline offer seems clear to me "FREE CANON SPEEDLITE 580 EX II WORTH £339.99" included.
As my dear old dad once said "son, when all else fails, read the instructions!".

Canon have gone down the path of keeping the IS in the lenses rather than the body; this has both advantages and disadvantages. Presumably the assumption is people who are forking out this amount of money for a camera body will also commit to 'L' lenses with IS.
#24
I can recommend Wilkinson Cameras, I bought my 40D from them last christmas and it arrived quickly with no problems at all.

Also the 580EX II is one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever bought, It's made a bigger difference to my photography than my L glass. I did a wedding last week and used the flash for nearly every one of 2000 shots, and I only had to change the batteries twice. I'd be lost without it!

What I don't understand is that a high end camera deal gets voted hot on here but a high end bike deal always gets voted cold, with people pointing out you can get bikes for £50 from Tesco.

Please justify that comment as it is regarded in most circles as one of the best semi/professional full frame cameras you can buy?

Extremely hot

I suspect it's because a) very few people understand all the tech of a high-level bike and even fewer understand the difference it can make unless they've ridden 'em and b) cameras are judged on a techie level of 'if it costs more it'll give you better pictures'. Which is odd because I'd argue that once you're above a certain level (Nikon D90 is where I'd peg it, sorry, not familiar enough with the Canon range but whatever the equivalent is) the only people who need 'em are those who make money from the pictures they take but the benefits of a high end bike are far more obvious to a much wider range of users. Ho hum.

Voted hot, it's a superb price considering you get the flash for free but a word of caution. If you're considering getting into DSLR you may want to ignore anything at this level. If you don't earn a living from your photography you won't need the extra features and will be far better off getting a cheaper body, a decent lens or two and MAYBE a cheap external flash so you can bounce it rather than shoot direct. Buy into a brand that has a good history of lens compatibility and get used to shooting DSLR's. Even the most basic Nikon or Canon will give you superb results IF you're good with a camera but the most expensive camera in the world will only ever give you poor shots if you take poor shots.

Canon don't build it into the camera but into the lenses.

They don't build it into high end SLRs because pro photographers will generally use a tripod to make the image tack sharp, rather than use a camera like this as a point and shoot, and on a tripod IS is useless.

Also the rating system is about how good a deal it is, and this is an excellent deal compared to prices of other places
#30
This is a bargain!! I'm picking up 3 of them :p
#31
You can get the body and a decent lens from Airport duty free cheaper.

It is thought that the IS/VR is better sited in the lens btw.
#32
That's about £134 off cheapest I can find.

(Camerabox.co.uk - and those are probably imports)

Thanks for this info but how would you know build into the lenses (without using a tripod)?.

What a stupid comment.
The Canon 5DmkII is widely regarded as one of the best SLR cameras out there.

I did that too, makes a HUGE difference, problem was that I read the manual AFTER and it said that not resting between 20 bursts can ruin the unit :? is this right or are they just trying to cover their backs?!?!?

Good Price

I keep hoping the full frame sensors from these higher end cameras will start filter down to the cheaper DSLRs but it looks like I will be waiting a long time yet.................

Sell the masses crop format, then once the market is saturated...tell them they really need full frame. Then everybody upgrades(and most of the crop lenses they've bought need upgrading too). A top wheeze.

They did it with Plasma/LCDs - sell 'em low resolution, then convince everyone they need HD. Twice as many sales!
