Same deal that has been posted a few times now. its back down to 419 again, but now a new offer means you can have the manfrotto 393 short photo tripod for just over a tenner which isn't bad, seeing as its normally 35quid for this tripod.

so in total its
£423.53 camera and kit lens + tripod (Before cashback)
£383.53 camera and kit lens + tripod (after cashback)
£419.99 camera and kit lens (Before cashback)
£379.99 camera and kit lens (after cashback)

The ten pound stretch for a decent tripod seems like good value but then again i don't know a thing about tripods so I'll let the more educated members confer and decide in the comments.

if you haven't heard of the canon cash-back heres a link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_171967167_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000677383&plgroup=3&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=1AVQ30B0Q6T5XKRZXSD4&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=341342107&pf_rd_i=B004MPQXZ0

and heres the tripod offer

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_172494307_4?ie=UTF8&docId=1000688043&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=special-offers-2&pf_rd_r=1AVQ30B0Q6T5XKRZXSD4&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=350315627&pf_rd_i=B004MPQXZ0

The tripod offer spans till the 30th january 2013 and isnt exclusive to just this camera, so check the link for further details.

And for those who arnt aware of the canon cashback, it spans till 24th january 2013 and across a few canon products so check the link for more details.

those who are in the dilemma of 600d v 650d, and your first time buyers wanting to use this for video, then go research magic lantern before pulling the trigger.

anything else i miss please do add in the comments and ill get around to editing the post, THANKS

(UPDATE : Tripod now only £3.50 more!)

aaaah isnt that the question everybodys asking.........personally im a bit biased towards canon so my opinion isnt relevant

Nikon tends to be behind on the technology curve. But they may offer more features at the same price (to compete).

Most people say go with Canon, but it really depends on the offers etc. available.

If you plan on buying a camera and a lens and leave it at that, canon or nikon. If you plan to get a whole load of lenses and upgrade, go with canon. More future there on the dslr side.

Got a 600D real cheap on lightning deals offer just a week ago. £324 - £40 cashback = 284 quids.

You must be joking.
Nikon have been smoking equivalent canons for stills for a while now. Better on high iso, automatically correcting lens errors etc, wireless flash across midrange since 2004 etc.

Canon tend to be better at video though.
Get onto snap sort and do some comparisons.

Both will be very much the top two for the foreseeable in my opinion.

I must be doing something wrong as it keeps coming to £450? - £40 cashback obviously.

I can't see anything being taken off at the checkout.

Canon makes its own sensor for its DSLRs, Nikon does not. Sadly, Sony's sensors has not been too a too good match against Canon's in the past few years, probably due to the sticky financial situation they are in.

There are miles long discussions on nikon vs. canon and even Nikon fanboys agree that technically speaking Canon may have the upper arm, but when it comes to handling etc. everyone has their own preferences.

Which is better for a person is not something I'd like to go too deep as it is very subjective. But objectively speaking Canons are better tech-wise – but again, what one wants depends on preferences and the pricing strategy of the rivals.

Be warned tho, all my friends who ask for advice I tell them the following:
If you want cheap lenses off our local equivalent of ebay, go Nikon.
If you ever want to sell your gear, steer clear of Nikon.

Same lenses for Canon and Nikon mounts: Nikon's can be 30% cheaper because no one buys them. Or, for every 1 used canon mount lens for sale there seems to be 1,5-2 nikon lenses, even though Nikon's marketshare is way lower.

And it's getting worse. Obvious really, just hope that most people don't realise that because that might mean Nikon going out of business and that leaves semi-pros exactly where..?

On that note, buy Fujifilm cameras, I don't want them to go bust. Crappy firmware and poor usability but excellent technology.

nice find. just got a 650d with same lens for 449 via digitalrev otherwise I'd be all over this. If looking at this vs the d5100 also the cheaper d3200 as it's getting very good reviews. I went Canon as loved my old 35mm eos and cheaper as motor is in body. plus magic lantern is out which adds extra features. think in practice there's very little in it. All are great cameras...

Anyone else got this to work? I've tried ordering by adding both from the following URL as outlined by the OP, but it wont take the £25 off even if I go all the way to the end of the checkout -

i wouldnt believe anything snapsort say, they often miss loads of features....it at best gives a very rough guide and is better than nothing

there is very little to choose between canon and nikon, canon has more lens in their range, but then again how many lens do you need, nikon usually offer better deals. if you buy either make you wont be disapointed. to say one is better than the other is like saying my £1 coin better than yours.

i went for canon myself

Thanks for your comments guys, edging towards the D5100 at the moment after watching a few youtube reviews and a comparison made on snapsort.........now to find the best deal.

Magic Lantern can't be beat. ;)

I "downgraded" from 7D to 600D because of ML.

I don't do much video shooting, ML is good for much else too.

hot deal, but personaly dont like canon dslr..... love my a35 with minolta 50mm 1.4 lens :-)
also if you looking to buy yours first dslr ..... think 1st !!! ... if you buy a nikon ( not sure if canon is a same or not )
every lens what you buy will be expensive..... because nikon lenses have focus motor and VR or (IS for canon - image stabilisation) build in the lenses all sony dslr and slt have this build in the body not in lens because lenses are cheaper .... if you compare to sony and nikon nikon lenses 3x more expensives ..... and not because is quality better or so .... also if you will use prime lenses 50mm 35mm 85mm etc. ( i think all prime lenses) are without IMAGE STABILISATION so with nikon you will not have vibration reduced .... but with sony yes because IS BUILD IN THE BODY so all sony ( minolta) lenses will focusing and stabilised .... also with sony you can use all old minulta AF lenses ... you can get chaep and most are very good ....... PLEASE DONT HATE ME JUST BECAUSE I HAVE SAY DONT LIKE A CANON :-) canon fanatics are a same crazyyy as APLE fanatics :-)))) but not ihone or canon are best .... just expensive .... THINK 1st !!!

This or the Nikon D5100?

I went for the Nikon D5100 because it looks nicer and the CMOS sensor in nikon DSLR's was a big thing for me as I've done side by side comparisons and the Nikon one looks a lot better. I think canons also feel cheaper in the hand than a Nikon. Not saying the Nikon is definitely better, I just prefer it mate.

I was going to go for the Sony but you forgot to mention that you can't use an optical viewfinder on the Sony cameras which to me is a big thing but not a deal breaker for everyone. but Sony use different technology and they're called SLT's (single lens translucent) rather than SLR. different being that in an SLR the mirror moves when you take a picture whereas the mirror in an slt is translucent so doesn't need to move which results in faster photo taking.
#24
true ... but i like my (single lens translucent) :-))) not all sony are SLT just SLT series...

Good price for the camera. I can't get the tripod offer to work though... I spent a fruitless half hour or so on Amazon live chat with a rather useless guy who finally told me that the 600d is not eligible for the offer. He couldn't explain why the offer was listed on the 600d page though. Guess I can try calling them tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your insight, found it interesting. I have been debating between the D3100 or 1100D, but now i'm thinking maybe taking a deeper plunge and getting this or D3100

Wait a second - what's this? Canon cashback mix and match - buy 2 products, claim 2 lots of cashback, plus an extra £25 cashback.

So I could get 2 600Ds, with 2 18-55mm lenses and two tripods for £742.06?! Tempted!

(Or buy a 600D and get an extra £25 off a lens. Yes,that makes more sense!)

Only Nikon AF-S lenses have motors in them. Nikon AF lenses do not and so only can be used with Nikon body's with a motor in them e.g. D90. And not all Nikon lenses have VR either.

Being real for a moment

Nikon or Canon are both good but as this is about how cheap you can get them I wouldn't worry about which one as its the lenses that make the difference and they rarely come cheap.

Nikon are better for the more inexperienced I've always found but I'm a canon man and sell my images for a tidy profit. My camera ?? The 600d

OK im going to step in here..............when i say im waiting for payday i do not mean my balance is at zero and im working on how to blow my next wage, what im saying is i have a savings account i don't touch for the future, and my current account has a few hundred in it that i never let it dip below, plus some to last two weeks (ya know in case there's a mess up with payday, cos im paranoid like that) . Your response assumed you knew my current situation, but i didn't initially reply because there was no need to, queue crujouwr who was just trying to point that out, but got shot down in the crossfire. Ultimately it really doesn't matter what my financial situation is anyway, this is HUKD, not moneysavingexperts. I always ask myself when i see comments like yours "was that really necessary?" . Anywhoo if you were just trying to be helpful, then this new information on my financial situation should put your mind at ease, so lets just leave it there, im not in to the whole internet/keyboard war thing.

Maybe you need to revisit your original comment.

I was tempted by one but the lack of autofocus on the body put me off... yes I know eventually I wouldn't need it and could buy manual lenses but the extra cost of buying af-s lenses put me off. Which is a shame because I could have got one for £315 :(

What the... I went to order this yesterday, but the discount wasn't being applied at or before checkout, so I went on live chat and was told there was a technical fault with the website and I should place the order anyway and then the discount could be applied by a customer services representative manually. I didn't go ahead with the order immediately, and then couldn't visit the site again until today because I was travelling home, having been away for Christmas.

So this afternoon I went back to order it and the tripod had gone up to £58! Yesterday it was going to cost me 64p, now £23?! It's since gone down a bit, to £50.31, but still, that and the hassle of having to get the discount applied after the order is taking the impulse out of this impulse purchase. Still a great price, but I'm going to have to rethink it.

You need to ask Amazon to freeze their whole system until you've reached home - I'm sure they'll oblige as they're all sitting there waiting for your order to brighten up their boring day. Very unreasonable of them not to take account of your Christmas arrangements. ;)
