Picking up tomorrow

Reserved :-)

A lot of Camera for the money. No viewfinder, but a great sensor and Canon build quality.

Does it include flash as it doesn't mention it?

Check but they usually come with a clip on flash unit

I have one of these - The autofocus can be slow on the original firmware and as such it did not sell too well. But since the revision firmware it works like a charm. If it still has original firmware just update it via the canon site
#7
Great touchscreen, works with majority of Canon lenses, also compatible with the stm lenses which are nice for video work.

Looking for a nice holiday camera and something for my professional work. - shooting showrooms, exhibition stands etc etc.

Is this okay or should I go for a second hand Sony nex 5n - priced at £160-£200? Does this canon shoot. 300 dpi high res images?

Or is anything else suitable?

A review says all the UK ones come with a separate flash but it doesn't have one built in.

does argos offer the 30 day return on this or not?

exceptional price (although I did get one for £295 after cash back with the EF mount thrown in).
autofocus is a joke for action shots (sports) but it's useful for events when 'professional' cameras are frowned upon.
the popular ef-m 22mm lens which is normally around £200 is just £76 on eBay new.

Think you're getting a bit confused with resolution terms - Dots Per Inch is more related to printing quality & not camera resolution - but both cameras have high resolution sensors (sony 16Mp & canon 18Mp) - both will print great photos up to A3 size (and above)
Although I normally always buy Canon, Id probably opt for the Sony Nex 5N if given the choice between these two.

Great find. How are these for kids shots? How does it fare for video work? I have a Lumix G3 which I got instead of this when it was launched towards the end of 2012 as it was well over £600 so I ignored it!

Tell me about it - I got threatened with being thrown in a lake when I was shooting a 'Tough Guy' event with a large lens a few years back !! - They think anyone with a large lens is 'press' making a fortune from each shot !!

Thanks for sharing your invaluable knowledge!

Huge thank you

Restyler or anyone,

Any other suggestions for an under £200 great all rounder camera? Or should I go for a 2nd hand sony nex 5n. Didn't want to be lugging around an SLR eg Nikon 3200 on holiday...

As a stills camera for anything other than planned pictures I wouldn't touch it unless you have Canon lenses you are desperate to use. It's still very slow, even with the new firmware. At least compared with the competition. I'd say not suitable for moving people, not remotely enjoyable for that. For video (with or without Magic Lantern) it's a completely different story though.

Voted hot, because the price is great.

Brilliant little camera for landscapes and portraits. Exactly the same image quality as 700D, in fact possibly better if you're intent on using the kit lens, the 18-55 STM kit is very good for a kit. AF is also miles better than everyone tells you, so long as you update to the latest firmware... On a par with NEX cameras. Fantastic price, consider the 11-22 STM for it too, that's a killer lens.
I've ordered one, even though the Argos website is being stupid as usual... and no, it's not excluded from 30 day returns.

Thanks OP.

Is the ef-m 22mm from UK, not a grey import?

They're based in the UK but they'll probably be grey imports... They're exactly the same as UK stock anyway and at £75 for a really good wide(ish) fast lens, you can't go far wrong.

uk seller but I'm assuming grey import. at over 60% off rrp and current selling price at uk outlets, it's a bargain.
I sold my eos m but am worried my willpower won't hold out at this price.

As long as the Nex 5N comes with a lens in range of 16-50mm or thereabouts, then its the best all rounder for under £200 - IMHO 8)

NEX 5N is about 3 generations old now, you're onto the 5T now and you'd be lucky to get one for under £300, even second hand... They're brilliant cameras, I'm a Sony obsessive and have two (long story).

The 16-50 powerzoom kit on the 5T, on the other hand, is rubbish, markedly inferior to the 18-55 kit that is supplied with this camera.

New, for under £200, this is the best value camera on the market at the moment. You don't really need to upgrade the 18-55 kit lens to get superb images.

Anything over 8MP will get 300DPI on an A3 print..

Under £200: There are some nice Olympus and Panasonic deals there and here.

Note: I am biased as I love m4/3 system due to their brilliant lenses, fast AF and minimal size -the lenses are smaller than APC-S/Full frame lenses, even if the bodies sometimes aren't.

How does this compare to the Olympus XZ-2?

I have an EOS 400D which has seen better days and 3 lenses. Can I use my existing lenses with this? Would this be considered an upgrade?

My daughter is into photography , would this be a good buy to put away for Xmas ? Also are the memory card deals offered with camera good value or what card would you recommend , thanks guys .

I've had a look and the equivalent memory cards are still cheaper on Amazon - there may be other places that are even cheaper still

I'm seriously considering this from Argos then ordering a memory card and lense hood from Amazon.

If you buy from hong kong Taiwan etc then you are liable for vat and import duty which pushes the price up to uk levels.

Canon uk won't service the item I there's a problem and you would have to return it to the supplier or pay for a repair in the uk.

Better to buy from Argos and buy the 22mm from an eBay seller who dispatches from within the uk IMHO.

Hope this helps someone.

As long as you dont mind paying import duties/ taxes from Taiwan
From ebay seller >> "Please note that fixed price is not include any Import tax / Duty / Vat Brokerage fees."

It's in Taiwan:

"International items may be subject to customs processing and additional charges."

Yep, with the mount that costs around £70.
This is roughly equivalent to a 550D (processor and sensor).

Also very tempted by this!
It has everything I want (especially as I still have the 18-55 kit ef-m lens left over from last time).
If it wasn't for the import risk and warranty issues, I'd be all over.
Good find.
2 years after release it would be interesting if canon revisit this format. Nice to see market prices dropping considerably and I guess there'll be more great deals in the coming months from different sellers.
