What ever the real RRP price (always bloated) this is a fantastic deal for a fantastic camera. HOT!!!

I have this very camera and it's very good! Great battery life and very very quick to startup and take a pic.

Hot price!

Just remember to use portrait mode in low light and its great for all sorts of shots, not just portrait shots!

Do the IXUS still have problems with "memory card error" bugs that seemed to affect a lot of the Ixus range, or had they solved it by the launch of the 70

Not aware of which problem your talking about. I've had 4 Ixus cameras in the past and have not saw this before. So think you will be safe. :)

this camera is amazing... got one about a year ago for £150 and thought that was bargain of the century

if you need a digital camera, this one at this price is the best you're gonna find

I've had one of these for 3 years & it's fantastic.

Great quality & usability.

They are great cameras. Had mine for three years until the memory card reader problem occured. Waiting to see if they will sort it for me free of charge because they were aware that it was a problem........

"Canon considers the following problems design faults and will often repair devices with these particular faults free after the warranty period. You must however ascertain whether a particular service centre will perform a repair for you.

[*]There is a bug in the firmware that can cause the IXUS 400 (and possibly other cameras with the same firmware) to display the message 'Memory card error' after the camera has been in use for some time. Contrary to the message there may not necessarily be anything wrong with the memory card. There are descriptions of the fix[15] available which pretty much amounts to taking the internal and external battery out at the same time in order to reset the camera."

They were doing these at Tescodirect a few months ago including a photo printer for £107.40, which eventually reduced to clearance at £79.97.

£107.40 - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/214393/canon-ixus-70-selphy-cp520-printer-/

Reduced to £89.95 - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/181740/canon-ixus-70-selphy-520-printer-bu/showthread.php?t=181740

£79.97 (discontinued) - http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-4135.aspx

No stock now though, but shows the price can come lower.

A while bakc I almost bought one of these for the wife, but I walked because the camera shop wouldn't do any kind of deal, not even a free memory card. That was a £179.99 so this is a lovely deal.

These things are going down and obselete as quick as they can make them, kind of puts me off this kind of technology but this price makes it more acceptable.

Not exactly, it's a 18 month model that frankly should be much cheaper by now, It of course has been replaced by the IXUS 80 which can be had for £120 with a carry case

Even then I wouldn't say that it is worth buying, the £110 Finepix S5800 blows it out of the water and if you really want a compact for that price, a £99 Kodak Z12585 would be better or even the nice looking Kokak M1073 at £99 would do the job

Fact is, this year the mid end camera market is chocked with cameras, and it is easy to get hoodwinked by fancy looking price "reductions", I would advise people get a shortlist of cameras in their price range and look up reviews before buying.

As for this camera, at that price I wouldn't call that a good deal at all, just misleading RRP manipulation used to make this look a better deal than the reality that it is a clearance of an old model.

What puts me off is that it might not last more than a couple of years. Would have to be less than even £99 if this bug occurs after only 3 yrs

The Ixus 70 has been around for quite a while ignore the £199.99 It has been about £115 at amazon for about 6 months and Tesco have been doing it for £90 with a free selphy printer

To re-phrase this, Tesco were advertising them for this price - did they actually have any in stock at this price? Not when I checked (several times!!) - I ended up getting the similar Ixus 75 from Amazon and its a fantastic camera - if you can afford a little extra, the 3" screen on the 75 makes a big difference

I got one for £99 (minus £6 voucher) from Tesco less than 2 weeks ago. I've had 4 digital Ixus cameras now and not had one with the memory problem. They are a great range.

It's no point comparing an old deal though. What matters is can you get it cheaper now. The only value of looking at old deals is to see what some retailers will do to get rid of end of range lines. However if it's only Tesco that will discount that much and Tesco haven't got anymore it's a waste of time!

THESE ARE GREAT CAMERAS.

I had this camera for 3 years, it gave me great service, i made the cardinal sin of taking it onto the beach and now it is wrecked.Never had a problem with the memory apart from when i didn't know what format memory was and erased all my photos! :~

Bought the IXUS 80 to replace it, as it was cheaper at the time wierdly. It's actually a lot better! Much better picture quality. I'd buy one of these for the price easily, but take it from me the next one up has a better picture.

Well the 80 is only about £20 more on Amazon so could be worth the extra.

One thing that concerns me a bit though is this mention of getting sand in the camera - and obviously you had the same issue. Having read some reviews these cameras seem particularly prone to getting sand (or bigger bits of dust) in them and causing an error which Canon charge more than the cost of the camera to fix.

I have a Nikon Coolpix which has been all over the world - including on many a beach - for the last 5 years and never hinted at any issues.

I love my Canon Ixus 70 by far the best camera in the world at this price!!

I don't know if this was available at the time of posting but you can get a free camera case (Lowepro Ridge 20 Digital Camera Pouch) with this. Also applies to the Ixus 80 and probably others too.
