Expensive? Show me better camera for the price! This is a great little camera which has an optically stabilised lens and good results for the average casual user. I have seen no other offer like it but would be pleased to see any suggestions?

This is a fantastic little camera. RickT, there is more to a camera than the megapixels. The quality of the lens, ease of use, build-quality, options and reliability. I have got one for 18 months now.
It is a great little point and shoot camera, and 1 of the pictures I have made with it has even been published.

Great camera ; thoroughly recommend
#7
Top quality camera of its type, good price too!
#8
these cameras are fantastic, cant recommend enough
#9
I have had this camera for over 12 months and paid over double this! Awesome camera! Awesome Price!
#10
Excellent cameras.

I've an Ixus 400 (4MP) camera and the picture and build quality blows away many of the modern 8MP compacts.

It ain't all down to Megapixels.
#11
Don't forget 3.5% quidco too, and possible free postage with code FPANDP but it might have expired, just checking now...

Update - FPANDP has expired, but still £3+ back with quidco

Camera tastic camera mate!!

I know everybody is allowed an opinion, but this is a Canon 8MP for under £90!!!

Bargain!

This range of camera's take nice pictures and are well built. My bro has the 50 and I have the 60. Both have been spot on for several years now. If mine did die I would more than likely buy the same thing again.

The zoom isn't all that great, but then it is a small camera....

Dont get caught up in how many MP these things are quoted as - its the quality of the image that counts.
#15
Is this the same camera that got posted a few weeks back £109 from Amazon?
If so, would it be better to wait for another couple of weeks until the price goes down a further £20?

Without going into detail about digital camera components and what is better than the other, (as no one can ever agree), the Canon in question is not a bad compact camera.

The RRP price for this camera was over priced from day one and came out late in a market when the front runners where moving on..

An example of a good compact is the below,... Yes.. it costs a little more... but looking at the spec i think you are getting a load more for your money...

My goodness. The Ricoh is no where near as good as the Canon. If you want blurred pictures, the Ricoh camera is for you. The 'IS' is nowhere near as good as the canon and so unless you've got rock steady hands prepare for blur-city. I had 2 and took them straight back. Terrible.

This is a real bargain for the Canon Ixus 80.
#20
How is this compared to Sony W150. I've bought that one for 115 last week from MarshallWard (with 30 off voucher). Should I return it ?

Disagree with you there... but not going to get into a debate on a "DEALS" website when there are photography forums..

Hi Rick, can you recommend a good photography forum please? I'm doing research into buying a compact camera for myself. Thanks.

http://www.dslruser.co.uk/forum/index.php -- Focused on DSLR's -- Can get in depth...

If your looking for a compact camera... start by taking a look at the below..

When looking for a new camera... pick say 5... then reseach each one.. limiting it down to 3... once you start to understand what you need from the camera spec wise and understanding the benefits of each..... I tend to then start a fresh search for another 2 or 3 cameras with the spec I need and comparing all the reviews and against my requiments...... (i do the above mostly for the DSLR's)

If on a budget... pick the top 2 or 3.. then get deal hunting... if not on a tight budget... pick the best and get the best dea l!!!!!!

I just brought the Canon IXUS 90 IS from Pixmania for not a huge amount more, might just be worth getting slightly better camera, came basically top of the Ultra compact/slim 'style' cameras 08 round up on dpreview

I just checked it is out of stock at the moment, but here is the link anyway http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1977947/art/canon/digital-ixus-digital-ixus.html

Another tip when buying any camera - look around on the net to find cameras you like in terms of meeting your requirements and to find the best deal but definitely go in store to hold each of the cameras on your list before buying them. Even compact cameras have very different feels (for example, the Canon Powershots still use AA batteries which mean that they tend to be a bit bulkier than your average compact). Also, if you have a local photography shop, always go in there to let them know the best deal you've found on the net. Quite often they'll come close to matching it and/or throw in some extras.

As for this Canon, I have the Ixus 90 as my compact (and a Nikon D90 as my DSLR). The Ixus is a great little compact and the spec for the Ixus 80 isn't far off the 90. You get a very decent camera with a good lens for this money!

Offer now expired as they have sold out!

Well done to all those who managed to get this great little camera at this very good price.

Rick,

The Ricoh R8 you mention has it's problems in particular it's poor flash performance and high image noise as soon as the ISO gets above 80. Even in a review of the R10 (it's replacement) although the flash issues have been fixed the high ISO noise has not. Overall for a neat small pocket camera the Canon IXUS range are hard to beat.
#31
gone up to £124.99 now...good deal while it lasted though!!
#32
Anyone know next cheapest website for CANON Ixus?
#33
The price has gone back up
But its still in my basket at the sale price

Do you think it will go through at the sale price if I order it? :?

Could you be more specific? There are a range of IXUS' out there, but this is a good starting website: http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat9.html

Next lowest price I can find for the Canon Ixus 80 (in a range of colours) is here at Jessops: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/KeywordSearch.html?keyword=canon%20ixus%2080&pageIndex=1&sortDirection=Descending&sortProperty=Relevance at 108.63

Use voucher code NEWYEAR for 5% off (-5.43) (NB this expires TODAY)
Use quidco for 3% off (-3.26)

= 99.94 in total

Hiya, just clicked on the go to offer link and it comes up with £127?
#38
Bought this camera for my bird on Amazon for £109 a couple of weeks ago, its top quality for the price, Solidly built.

I prefer my Olympus DSLR, but it won't fit in your pocket.......unless you've got big pockets.

Voted hot originally - My order was accepted on Monday. Been advised this a.m (very politely) they are out of stock at that price but I can order at £124!! A pink one was offered at the original price but I can't see me getting this out to take pictures on the top of a mountain which is what I would use it for mostly. Vain or what??
