Differences Explained: Canon EOS 550D, Rebel T2i and Kiss X4
by Raphael Chieza

Recently, while having a chat with our team of passionate customer service, I was told that many of you were rather confused about the difference between Canon EOS 550D, Canon Rebel T2i and Canon Kiss X4. While sound of getting a Rebel or a Kiss sounds to be completely two different things, the three camera models are essentially the same and is part of Canon's regional branding policy.

Regional Branding

The Canon Rebel branding is used mainly for America and Canada, while the Canon Kiss is for the domestic Japanese market. That leaves the Canon EOS branding for the rest of the world. However, to further confuse things, there are actually export versions of the Kiss series around too which differs from the domestic version by way of language options. Basically, the Kiss X4 comes with English and Japanese menus while the export version comes with multi-languages. The Canon EOS 550D comes with a choice of European language menus but they may also vary somewhat if sourced from different South-East Asian countries according to our purchase department. However, I have personally yet to see a 550D without European language support. If you are not concerned about non-English menus then basically, you can get any of the three without any loss in features.

High ISO for low light
When light levels fall, the Kiss X4 offers an ISO range of up to 6400 ¨C expandable to 12800 for those environments where using flash is undesirable.

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.6-5.6 IS is a general-purpose standard zoom lens for photographers who prefer to travel light. it's also illegal to sell these in the UK/Europe, you won't get the guarantee...

Yes, it shows import charges in the basket making it total £535.96.
Believe it has 1 year seller warranty. Might not be for everyone's preferred choice.

It is a Hong Kong based company, and items are sent from HK.
Also since the X4 only has english and japanese (as confirmed in one of the reviews) this isn't even for the chinese market making the canon warranty invalid even in Hong Kong where they are shipping from. So it's already a grey import into Hong Kong.

Basically you run the risk of having no official warranty and having to send items back to HK only to risk having them taxed again when returning to you.

I don't think so, discount doesn't include the added vat, no way have you tracked £130.

Am I right in assuming that no Canon dealer in the country will touch these with a bargepole if something goes wrong?

Yep that's right. Also read the following.

All mail that enter the United Kingdom may be examined by customs, but normally letters, postcards and packets containing only documents or similar forms of correspondence are excluded.

If you are receiving a package from overseas (unless it’s from another EU Country), please be aware that it may incur customs charges. Any package assessed by HM Revenue and customs as being liable for customs charges will also incur a Royal Mail handling fee of £8.

Any goods imported into the UK over the value of £18 are liable to import VAT. Gifts between private individuals over the value of £40 are also liable for VAT. Goods and gifts over these values may also be liable for customs duty. You no longer have to pay customs duty for goods up to the value of £135, however you will still be required to pay import VAT and excise duty where applicable.

In other words if customs get hold of it you could be liable to pay 20% vat on the item.

No real warranty and possibly hidden charges make this a bad deal.

I got very excited when I seen LawA's post about Best Buy but trying to order from them is just not happening. Everytime I try to order there it tells me its either a problem with my bank card (its not, I have ordered stuff after i tried using BestBuy) or its unable to proceed with the transaction.
