Surprised no ones seen this advertised in todays paper. Looked to see if its posted here but couldn't find it.

This Canon PIXMA MP550 inkjet printer is perfect for those who need borderless prints. This printer can print photos directly from a memory card without requiring a PC and also uses individual colour cartridges – when one colour runs out you don’t need to replace them all.

I was just looking for some ink for my ip5200 but I'm tempted to flog it for a tenner and get this now. Just hope it can print onto CDs.

Just hope it can print onto CDs.

None of the multifunction series [MP models] can do CD/DVDs AFAIK unfortunately.....

It's a pity really, as I too coincidently, have a 5200 which I'm wanting to replace, but wuish to retain a CD printing function. I'd say this probably is as good as the 5200 too, and it still has 5 separate ink carts.

My MP640 can do DVD/CDs if i wish - I also still have my 5200 as I loved the print quality [and had spare ink;)] the ease of use of the 640 over the 5200 though is excellent and the wireless does make all the difference.

Just seen these instore. Cracking price. Cursing for having just bough the MP560 from Amazon for £89.99 - the only difference is the lack of wifi.

What is this like on ink consumption?

Before you buy this printer you should figure out how much it costs including three additional refills. Then compare it to a £100 Kodak printer, again, including three refills.

Hint: I know who the winner is.

A fair point - though compatibles for the Canon are widely available (chipped) and cost about a quarter of the price of the originals.

I have a similar model, It gobbles ink when printing photos. I think it ran out of ink after 20 or so 6"x4"s. The cartridges are tiny and expensive compared to my HP.

For printing photos I find you will get better value and quality with a dye sub printer unless your inkjet has a CISS.

There's a couple of Canon MP series printers that print directly onto CD's/DVD's.

MP990 (Expensive)
MP640

I think once my trusty IP5000 falls over I'll end up getting a Canon MF as this thing has been ultra reliable since I've had it!

Thanks for putting me right.

I wasn't aware at all. Cheers.

Might just have a look at a 640 :)

Thanks for the CD info folks. Some good pointers there. In the old days of HDUK I'd be shelling out rep points like a mad 'un, but you'll have to settle for a "Ta very much" now. Heheh!

Gar81... I've seen cartridges for a fiver or so a set, but the 47-77p a pop is amazing, especially if they're chipped. Have you posted that deal? If not... Why not?!? :D

Thanks gar81... Just been having a look at your refered site and saw cleaning carts for sale. Never even knew they existed!

£3 p&p isn't that bad either if they sell carts for the right amount. I'll have a good route later.

Thanks agan.

Thanks OP
Dont forget Quidco which I think will track at 3%

In addition if you add something else to basket to take order over £50 you can use this code which will give you 500 extra clubcard points

TDX-AWCK

I added this

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-7290.aspx

Will collect this at store to save £5 delivery and paid with Tesco credit card so I'll earn 602 points on this deal worth around £24 in Goldsmiths vouchers ;)

This is my printer and i say its the best i have had. I have had a lot of multifunction printers in the past (Dell, Epson, HP, Lexmark) but this one is my favourite... and i can get a set of cartridges for a tenner (all inc.) from a guy in dewsbury who sells via ebay.

Would defo recommend this one!

so whats the verdict on the compatible carts from the ink.co.uk? need some for my mp540 and seeing as can get 2 complete sets for the same price as original canons i'm tempted.

Just bought one from Tescos in Hove - loads in-stock still! Looks like an ace deal!
