That's because these particular Canons are rubbish, which is an odd thing for me to say as Canons in general are brilliant cameras; I loved my Powershot A40 and wish I hadn't "upgraded" to a Fuji S5500 (I should have gone for the Canon S1).

Anyhow, never get one of the "slimline" Canon cameras. Spend a little extra and get the next line up (which are 'squarer'); A570, A600, A700 etc. If you don't want to spend much try to find an A40/A50/A60 refurbished or second-hand.

I have this camera and i think it's brilliant.
has all the features i use in a camera and more.

Fair enough, my experiences of the A300 and A400 I've seen haven't been good. Noisy images, poor colour reproduction, no control options.

Canon A530 was £50 in Asda 2 weeks ago. Voted cold.
