"Nice find and welcome to hotukdeals!"
Thanks

Great find, it's not long ago that the supplied memory card would have cost more than that!

poor battery life

I have one of these - I buy the Energizer batteries especially for cameras (sorry can't remember what they are called about £4 for 2) and have used only 4 (2X2) in the last 14 months.

It does get through batteries much quicker than my previous camera; but the picture quality is fabulous as is the viewing screen at the back; I also have a canon photo printer and that does high quality prints - I would definately recommend this camera!

Offers been around for a while, I think I've been humming and harring over it for the past month with the hope it could drop further.

Continious shooting is the only thing interesting me, that and the cannon hack for time lapses which is just becomming available for the a470.

I use 2500mah re-chargable batteries and they last ages between charges.Play used to do a charger and 4 batteries for £6 a while ago and I bought 2 of those and still going strong.

we bought one of these last month and also use rechargable batteries with no problems :)

they claim that the camera case is available for half price when you buy the camera but it still costs £12 - it would be more useful if it had a neckstrap IMO

Posted before..PLUS deal is a bout 3 months old now

This is a great starter camera.....gets top reviews at Steves digicams. Slightly on the chunky side but who cares at this price........there can be no justification to vote cold on this deal.

Voted hot just to annoy Mr Product who seems rather worried the deal has been posted before and that someone may be getting undeserved heat. :whistling:

Nope, far from it.....whats the point in having 2 or even 3 threads on exactly the same deal? - Anyone can just look at a previous good deal, copy it..and then get underserved heat - whats the point????

I assumed all duplicated posts were removed but obviously not!!

Hot deal for a good starter camera!
As Gynx mentioned, the CHDK firmware is available for this camera - this gives you added features such as motion detection, allow you to shoot in RAW format and plenty of other stuff. Just google "CHDK" for more info.

Do you need to wear glasses for reading, but not for normal vision ?
If so then find one with an optical viewfinder and leave this bargain in Argos.

I know diddly-squat about cameras so would appreciate some advice. I'm looking to buy a decent digital camera which produces good quality images and has a reasonable battery life - I'll be using it twice or thrice a month, so I'm not a heavy user by any means. Bearing in mind the aforementioned, would the good people of HUKD recommend this camera for my needs? Many thanks in advance.

I have just bought this for my seven year olds birthday.
He used it for the first time this weekend, and his results are just as good as mine!
Plus the face reconigition is great.

Need I say more!

Yes

Also, if you are looking for a cheap case (cheapest I could see the official Canon case was for ~£12) there is a Hama case available at 7dayshop for £1.29, which has room to store a spare set of batteries, right here.

These are great cameras and also recommend then for young kids (age 8+) .

If you're looking for a free photo editing software for when you've taken your lovely photos and want to edit/ copy to disk, reduce size for emailing ; printing and lots of other stuff, I'd highly recommend Picassa 3 (by Google). I've been using it for years and have introduced loads of kids/adults to it at camera clubs.

Info & download from here

This deal is still going

My daughter (16) has just replaced her trusty A430 and is over-the-moon with the A470 - we've downloaded the CHDK software but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Note: Although it's an 'entry-level' camera the Canon lens is excellent and it has the same Digic III processor as on the Canon EOS DSLRs.

I've just borrowed my daughter's A470 for a couple of weeks whilst on holiday and am very impressed with the macro facility and digital zoom. It's not so hot on night shots as the flash is very harsh (as most are) but for the price I'd say this camera is excellent value and very portable. I'd recommend using 2450mAh energiser rechargable batteries (about £10 in Tesco/Sainsburys for 2x batteries plus charger) and managed to get over a 1000 photos onto a 4gb card. Handy little camera when a DSLR isn't an option :) but bear in mind the cost of a decent size memory card and batteries before buying.

Play.com and 7dayshop.com do fairly reasonalby price memory cards (if you don't mind the wait with 7 dayshop). Also batteries and chargers
