The PowerShot A530's 5.0 Megapixel CCD sensor captures enough fine detail for large photo quality prints, with plenty of scope for post-shoot cropping. A bright 4x optical zoom lens gives you the flexibility to shoot up close without sacrificing quality. It combines with the digital zoom for an impressive 16x magnification. Canon's DIGIC II image processor links all camera functions and processes images at high speed for excellent responsiveness and extended battery life. iSAPS technology uses scene information to optimise camera settings before the shot is taken. 9-point AiAF keeps your images sharply focused - even with off-centre subjects. Choose from 17 shooting modes to get that perfect shot. 9 Special Scene modes assist with tricky lighting conditions, including Beach, Foliage and Snow. Further enhance your images with My Colors in-camera colour management tools. A high-speed ISO 800 setting allows you to shoot correctly exposed images in indoor or near-dark conditions without using a flash. ISO 800 also enables shooting at higher shutter speeds, reducing the risk of image blur. Shoot still images in Widescreen 16:9 mode for seamless playback on widescreen TV or printing on wide size paper to a SELPHY CP printer - perfect for displaying panoramas in all their glory. Make extra long VGA quality movie clips with full audio. View them with friends and family on the camera's LCD screen, or connect to a TV or PC for full screen playback. A 1.8" LCD brings pleasure to framing and reviewing your creations. A selectable Grid Line Display helps with composition, while Night Display aids screen visibility after dark. Connect to any PictBridge or Canon Direct Print compatible photo printer and push the Print/Share button for a full colour photo in seconds. Upload images to your PC quickly and effortlessly with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.

Thanks for posting this, purchased one myself, hope the discount works! Had a Canon A75 that did a very, very good job for several years which I replaced for a Samsung Digimax I6, which is the worst camera, in terms of photo quality, I have ever used. The A540 just seems to have a slightly bigger screen and 1MP more. From what I have read, the A530 still has the edge in terms of photo quality and has zero lens flare on photos, which is a nightmare on other cameras I have used, except for Canon.

I have the A520 and it is great...so this 5mp model should be likewise

I have this exact model, and it works a treat. What impresses me most is it's excellent with the batteries, my Dad's Sony of similar spec and battery type in comparison chomped through batteries. it takes some lovely pictures too. Voted hot!

Very nice camera, I have it. If anyone is interested, here is a photo I took of Lake Matheson in New Zealand with it - I'm **** with cameras, so just auto settings and all that stuff. :D

Excellent photo Jackus!! NZ's amazing isn't it! :)

I had the A510 and was incredibly impressed with the camera itself and also with the picture quality. Had it stolen though (along with months worth of travelling photos!! Gutted!!) so maybe I'll replace it with this awesome deal!!

Theres a good review here.

Hi folks - 1st post! :)

It looks like a good deal. I do own the Powershot A510 (3.1MP), which has served and continues to serve me well. For anyone looking to make the upgrade from the A510 or A520, you might want to take note the A530 can't use a lens/filter adapter, and that the number of modes has been reduced (no Av or Tv modes, for example) but it does have a powerful manual mode where aperture, shutter speed (upto 15 seconds) and focus can be manipulated and a 4x optical zoom.

Some users have complained about the power consumption, and there is an advisory at Canon about this :

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=218&modelid=13390&keycode=2111&id=28799

.. its likely that suppliers of this camera have already been advised about this fault, but it might be worth checking?

For the price, it certainly looks very decent indeed. :)

It was voted best buy in May Issue of PC Advisor for sub £200 cameras.

I've just ordered one. Thanks!

Good find. Just FYI, if this becomes out of stock, the camera is available from PCWorld for just a few pence shy of £90. I only post this because I know first hand, having bought it on Sunday!!! Oh... and from what I've used of it so far, a good camera!!!
