I might get one of these, we managed to get my mum and dad the older version last weekend and it seems good. I'd have to order it though- does anyone know if the price would still stand if ordered today or would I have to pay full price if they put it back up again? Thanks
#4
do you mean to order it for home delivery or collect at store?
#5
Reserve for Store Pick-up

Check stock & reserve online, pay in-store when you collect your items.
If items are in stock, your reservation will be held in-store until the end of the next working day. Items marked https://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/en_US/images/p2/extra_logo_white.gif may not be available for immediate collection in all stores but can usually be ordered in from the warehouse for you (subject to stock). Items which need to be ordered in are usually available for collection within 3 working days - the exact dates will be shown on your reservation. When you place your reservation, you will be given a reservation number to take to the store. Prices may change on a daily basis due to special offers. The price you pay will be the price in store on the day you collect and pay for your items

I've posted info on this before, but I should probably mention (again) that this camera is one of the ones that can take the CHDK firmware enhancement to give it features such as RAW format image capture, scripting, additional picture modes, and so on - many of them not present on any camera at this price range.

See http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK for details (specific info on the Powershot A560 firmware is at http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A560 ).

Not bad price, but this was cheaper than this 8 months ago... and even 11 months ago when i bought mine (tho i did get the next model up A570 IS)

i love my A75.just a shame it's so heavy
#16
Heat added, I've finally cracked and upgraded my A60.
#17
very tempted but just dont like the thought of having to use the x2 AA batteries over a rechargable block type
#18
I can't believe they're still only giving you a 16MB card with the camera. They were doing that with 2m pixel cameras 6 years ago!

I love mine too, still going strong after 4 years.

Good deal......I just purchased the Canon Powershot A590is from ajpurdy.com for £104 but that included a 2GB card and a free euro 2008 football......

This deal is good for the money

Well, for the money I'm very impressed. I currently have a Powershot S500 (5mp) and it's showing its age, especially when I paid £250 about 3 years ago and this A560 model has pictures like the ones shown at Steve's Digcams as follows :hhttp://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/a560_samples.html
In a way it's not much of an upgrade for me, but at £70 I can give my old camera to my other half who hasn't got one and get this. The fact that it takes AA batteries is not an issue as rechargeables are so cheap these days, and although I agree that Canon and others are being tight fisted with their SD card offerings, memory is dirt cheap at the moment and nearly every camera you buy needs a few 'optional extras' as standard. Bargain price, voted hot.

Why is it I only ever see you posting negative comments on here gary??? Have you ever actually posted a "good" deal yourself???? Whats the point of saying that it was cheaper some other time unless its STILL cheaper!! I saw a Lotus on Ebay for 50p buy it now, does that mean that if someone posted one for £5 buy it now that its not a deal?????

As for the camera, it looks like a good deal. I wouldn't be put off by the batteries, pro's and con's for both. In my experience packs tend to last longer (my 400d does around 600 per charge.... different kettle of fish I know!!) but you cant just walk into a shop and buy a charged one for £3. I've got one reserved for in laws, does anyone know if these are simple to use??? (it would have to be!!!)

So is the Canon better than the NIKON?

So is the Canon better than the NIKON?

Bone of contention on that question. Some say either 1 is better but its a matter of opinion.

For instance......I have a Sony DSLR..........but prefer Canon as a compact to carry around all the time. Personal preference I think is the answer.....:)

I've got this camera. It's a very solid little performer for the price, but the pictures I take never come out quite well enough for me to be able to send them in to The Guardian with a pretentious caption to try and win their weekend magazine competition.

Yes it's cheaper but from the pictures and reviews around the net, I'd say the Canon had the edge, as well as the fact that it has a a separate viewfinder that personally I find useful.
#31
It's a good deal, voted hot, however, if you're not in too much of a hurry and want to take a bit of a gamble then there will probably be a Canon Cashback offer over the August Bank Holiday, which usually provides some really good deals. I got a Powershot A720is (Very nice camera) for less than £100 at the Easter cashback.

If you don't want to risk it or wait though then I suspect you'd be hard pushed to find a better camera for your money than this one.
#32
got to work how to use the dam thing now, so much to do on it compared to my kodak, what the hell is the square that zooms in on peeps face when you go and take a pic? and is there any handy info site explaining how to make the most of this camera? as i am off on a trip to london next week, and would love to have some really nice pics taken with this :-D

an6y help is appreciated

Isnt that one (samsung s1065) better then canon one then? im surprised every1 is going for the canon one :? Can any one explain because i am thinking of buying one soon. cheers :)

Also what things do i need to look for when purchasing one. i know that i should be looking at the optical zoom with more attention compared to the digital zoom and that the more mega pixels the better. anything else though?

thanks in advance
#34
i just want 1 with good pics and theres no delay between pressing button and actually taking the picture. my old olympus has bout a 2 second delay
#35
well i bought this one today, and i am well happy with the quality of pics it has taken, there is a slight delay in taking them, but i have all the functions set to auto and i also have the red eye light on every pic i take, i am guessing that if i removed this function the pic would be instant, i thought the samsung one was better on paper, but that is purely due to having more pixels, but i opted for the canon as i have a canon printer that i am happy with and also i would choose a canon (who are renowned for cameras) other than samsung

It can be as simple (auto mode, point and click) or as complicated (manual, aperture size, focus, flash, macro, etc) as you want it to be.
#37
^^ As long as it has the "simple as" option Im sure they will be fine!!!

Thanks

Thats your first mistake and a very comon one, more MP does not mean a better picture, it means it will take a larger picture but not a better one, you have to factor in quality of the lens and other items

looking at reivews the shutter lag times seem quite impressive on a camera in this price range, power up to first picture time looks good too.
only negative point is recharge time on the flash, i think shutter lag speeds are more important however. yet to find a negative review on this cannon, from what ive read seems one of the best in its price band.
