Just got a brand new sealed Canon PS G9 for only £169.97 in the Mansfield PCWorld.

There was another one there but the seal had been broken on the box.

It was part of their Massive Stock Clearance Sale.

Next cheapest I have seen is £229 on Amazon.

Thats hot. I will try my local pc world. Thanks

Wow, have been looking at these... was tempted with the Amazon deal. Will check my local PC World although clearance is always a gamble...
#3
used one of these...its and excellent deal for an excellent camera....however its very bulky for a compact and prob worth considering a far superior dslr which is worth the extra money imo...still voted hot though

This is £218.33 after Quidco for a Nikon D40 + Lens kit and Free case. I'm not biased (as this is my post), but the D40 gets you a lot of camera for little money!

Yeah, the D40 is good (OH has one) but I was looking for something more compact and have used a friends one of these and found it great. I have had my eye on this on Amazon for quite some time but it has never budged below £200 - couldn't believe my luck this morning! Next time I go diving I might invest in the underwater case :)

Great find OP, seriosly good price for a great glove box camera.

Spoke to PC World CS and they say there aren't any left anywhere.

If anyone comes across one please let me know as I would jump at one at this price.

Well there was one left in Mansfield, but as I said the box had been opened.

Non in Leicester but plenty of other little clearance bargains. Customer service STINKS this time of year the prices have to be crazy cheap to buy from there! As a past secret shopper for PC world it still amazes me how people go back! (rant over)
#9
I'm sure I saw some of these in lakeside recently.

I'd be the first to agree that CS isn't what it should be but just to show that there's an exception to every rule............
I phoned the PCW 0844 number and was told that as it wasn't a stock item each store might have some or none left. Right. Went to Stevenage where the young man was extremely helpful and told me that there were two in Currys at Watford. Off I went.
The first numpty in Currys scratched his head, disappeared and came back in a couple of minutes to tell me that there was only one on display - no I couldn't have that and the other one must have been stolen. I then "found" the other one in the display cabinet. Found an assistant - Trainee Assistant his badge said Mmmm i thought - who asked whether he could help. I want that please, I said, as long as the seal isn't broken. It wasn't - result, I thought. Just prior to this I had been across to PCW to check the price - still £169.97 and the helpful PCW assistant also gave me the SKU number. Back at Currys, they were trying to charge me £299. Can you pricematch PCW I asked?
Nope came back the reply from the Currys manager - the price differenvce was too great. Whaaat? I then offered to pay for it at PCW and then collect it from Currys. They agreed to that. Back at PCW the system wouldn't let them sell it to me cos they had none in stock. Anyway, it ended with the PCW manager marching across to Currys with me and transferring the stock to PCW and I got my camera for £169.97. And my thoughts on PCW aren't quite as bad as they were LOL!
And if anyone is interested Currys Watford still have that one on display but God alone knows how you will get them to sell it to you! Recession? What recession - Currys obviously have passed it by.

Just picked up one of these - camera was sitting in Currys, went to PC World across the road and asked them to tranfer it - job done. Display model but looks untouched - complete with all bits and pieces. This should be voted far hotter if you ask me.
#12
May I ask what the sku is?

Just used this method at Stockport, where Cyrrys and PC World are ajoined.

They had two more left at lunchtime if that helps.

wow, amazing deal. I have one of these.
A great low weight camera for the pro or amateur on the go w/o DSLR.
Stick to ISO 80, 100 and 200 though.
face detection is spooky!!

Utterly mad price for this camera. I paid £300 a year ago. Professional camera in a compact size.

There was one shop-soiled G9 in one store. That was why this offer showed up on their system. That camera has now been sold.

The stock transfer from Currys to PC World depends on the relationship with the managers. Area managers ask for stock transfers to be done unless the store has it with a sold sticker on.

Note - ask in PC World for them to check if they can get one from Currys not the other way round as if someone tries to just send one without warning head office might pick it up as attempted profiteering. Company doesn't match itself cause they are the rules set out. But like i say the transfer of stock isn't difficult and is very very common

A question - given the age of this camera, how does it compare to a Pasonic TZ5 (available for a similar price)?

Yes, cameras are a new thing and it's deemed a 'fetish', Grow up and go away.

Thanks for the OP, I'm going to try and hunt one down tomorrow as I need something to replace my D40.. that I just sold for £170. =/ Silly me!

Went for one of these in currys off display and eventually got the guy to agree to transfer it across to pc world so i could buy it at £169.There was three assistants standing looking gormless and after around ten minutes of pleading i got a result.. However when i took it off display there was large scratches on the lcd panel so i decided not to buy. I must say that it was quite large and the way camera prices are falling i would say that at £169 that is all it was worth.
#31
Glad people are managing to get hold of these! Took mine out on New Years Day and got some great pictures! Comparable if not better than those taken on OH's D40.
#32
Just rang the 0844 number and was told he can't see the offer :?

Is this offer in store only?

Might have to nip down to Stokport at lunchtime!

I have a camera that has a terrible delay - you click and it takes so long to take the picture the moment has gone. Is this camera as instant as the D40 etc. (or is it instant enough to capture spontaneous kids poses etc?)

Cheers

According to dp review
Power: Off to Record is 1.2 seconds

Of course it's quite large! Erm, it's worth more than £169 which is why people are interested in it.

Im no expert but thats the very reason I bought my Canon 400d (similar to the D40), every compact I've had (including a really nice Nikon), suffered this, the Canon DSLR on the other hand is instantaneous and you never miss a shot!! Only down side is the size AND the expensive addiction to new lenses :whistling:, if you can live with this I'd invest a bit more and go for the cheap D40 which was on here earlier in the week for a few quid more. Hope that helps?

I have both! Well, i have the G7, but they are almost identical in features, except the G9 = 2MP more and slightly larger screen. The TZ5 is much smaller and lighter than the canon G7/9's. TZ5 has a much larger range of optical zoom, but the G7/9 offer a larger range of settings (like an SLR) and it is much easier to access them quickly (using the ISO wheel and quick wheel). The TZ5 seems to have many of the features, but they are hidden in menus so not as easy to access when trying to get a shot of something quickly.

Now £380 at the Preston branch of PC World!

I'd get them to scan it - with mine they just scanned the normal barcode on the box i think.

Re. the question on speed of taking photos - I''ll compare the speed of taking photos compared the D40 later on - I haven't had a chance to try out all the features yet. I noticed that there was a delay between shots, but there may be a setting that I can change.

A bit too big.
