Although considerably more expensive, these DO work...

Just compare thickness of the proper jump leads to that tiny cable. I guess it might take a day before you can start the other car ;)

Waste of money, had something similar from asda, did nothing

Hmmm. I've a mate that bought these and in performance terms it's fair to say that his quite simply didn't work!

The article debunking these is a bit misleading.
The intended use is to give the flat battery a short charge, rather than start directly.
These are designed to be 12v battery chargers which step up the output voltage and give a visual indication of the charge state of the battery.
If a typical car needs 250A for 3s to start, and the charger can deliver 5A - then it should take about 3 minutes to charge the battery.
If the battery is absoultely flat, then it wold take much longer to get the voltage up to a working level.
I don't know if this particular model is any good, however there is nothing wrong with the way they are designed to operate.
The biggest design flaw would be having 5-10A flowing through those awful cigarette lighter connections.

They are good for dash lights may be but I found out the hard way even cheaper jump cables are useless when car is dead

according to the aa guy who started our car via proper starting pack you aren't supposed to jump modern cars from another car can't remember the exact reason why as it was a while ago
