Well, it's cheap, the spec sounds fine.... but is it any good?

I bought a similar unit from Aldi last June & it was a stinker

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/422438/car-cd-mp3-radio-with-bluetooth-wir/

It would lose my radio presets, bluetooth was poor, the CD/USB/SD player was moody and it was just a drag in general.

I wanted a refund but they wouldn't give me one as I'd had it a month so I had to send it back for testing. After 6 weeks of waiting to hear from them one of these arrived this morning.

I've fitted it (very easy to instal) but I've not tested it properly yet.

I'll keep you posted.

I made the mistake of buying a similar prima facie good value unit about 18m ago from Aldi. It was so lowly/poorly designed that it REQUIRED a power supply that turned off with car ignition. Imagining its ON/OFF switch would actually turn it off was a mistake that flatened my battery in 24hrs! Not a 'feature' that appeared on the box, though their helpline was helpful in being clear it wasn't going to work in my car! Managed to get my money back but what a total waste of time. So many other bad experiences with electronics over £10 with Aldi that I don't bother with them at all anymore.

Looks like you have just been unlucky. I have been buying electrical gadgets from Aldi and Lidl for years. Only problem I had was with a camera that started playing up after 2 years and 10 months. Took it back to Aldi who then arranged for it to be returned to manufacturer in Germany. A week later I received a brand new replacement camera. So it is all about personal experiences, and my experience has been good. FFS with three year warranty how can you go wrong.

The one fitted in my Mitsubishi Lancer is installed like that, and in my last Peugeot too - I was rather under the impression that they all turned off with the ignition these days - and have a separate feed to supply any features that need to be permanently switched on via a DIN/ISO socket.

When I said "is it any good," I meant in terms of performance... radio/CD but also the Bluetooth features in particular - some I have seen appear to have poor microphones, how does this fair?

I know they have been on offer before so I am presuming others have bought them and have found the pitfalls!

Have the same unit but without the bluetooth.

Good radio reception, 30 presets, reliable and good sound. Useful rescan button (TMA?) that reprograms all of your presets when driving long distance.

A 4GB SDHC card works although it says it works with SD up to 4GB.
Methinks USB is unlimited capacity not tested to to see if it remembers its catalgue which could slow down a large capacity drive.

Not tried the CD. Line in works great and sound far better than any FM modulator.

LCD screen is a bit puny so hard to look at mp3 tags whilst driving.
Useful to have LW too.
AM sure mine does OGG too. Not sure about ACC.

I would have liked a rear USB for a permanent hard drive connection.

I've been using this for a few days now & it's much much better than the previous Aldi offering.

The blutooth aint great but it works. I've been told I sound a bit distant & tinny on the other end. I don't think there's any way of attaching an external mic to it.

It's better than the older unit in every way apart from looks. It really is a bit of a pig to look at but it does the biz & it's bloody loud too :-)

Ah!

That was the bit I was most interested in, seeing as I have a Bluetooth visor, and despite doing a lot of research to get an effective one, it is a bit feeble, like every other one of them! :-(

have you tried using an sd card? does it remember where you are if you turn the engine off and what capacities have you tried?

Does anyone know whether the control on a Ford Fiesta 08 steering column arm would work with this stereo. I.e. volume control and changing stations?

Turned up at local Aldi yesterday for this and couldn't fine one, asked girl on checkout and she told me didn't start until 8th! Should have read post more closely :)

Will post my thoughts if i get my hands on one tomorrow but hot deal for me.

Picked one of these up this morning and all looks good. Just need to get time to fit it later!

Oh just to add they come with a remote control too which you can use to dial numbers on your connected bluetooth handset which is handy :)

Does anyone know if ALDI allows us to return a product if it's not satisfactory? Obviously I'll take great care when installing it and will put it back into the box in as new condition.

Finally managed to get one of these (went to the shop at 08:55)
I only used it for 3 days but these are the results:
1) Installation took 7-8 minutes; just plug the existing wiring in (at least in an Astra Y reg)
2) The quality of the sound has improved compared to my old Vauxhall stereo, I thought I needed new speakers but I was wrong
3) CD does not jump even going past the 2 foot road humps in hounslow
4) You can keep your albums separated in folders in your USB stick and access the folders (this is what I like most)
5) I had never used a bluetooth in a car, and I connected my 4 year old sony ericsson in a minute. Quality of calls is very good
6) I have purchased tens of product from Aldi / Lidl in the past 4-5 years and i only had a problem with a charger which was replaced after a simple telephone call. 3 years warranty is a great bonus.
7) Believe it or not, even my wife said that it is a good buy, and she is allergic to technology (probably the only person still using a Nokia 3310 phone and happy with it)

True. A bit confusing at first.
I found that you need to hold the psi button and after the beep press it once to access the root folders which you can view by rotating the volume knob.
Hope it works

when i do that it only allows me to scan through the songs in the folder im currently in?

I also have a problem in that if i leave the front panel on overnight when i next use the car the stereo doesnt work. i have to pull it out, disconnect then reconnect the wires, then it works fine??
