I've got this model. It's actually pretty nifty, you can plug in a USB stick or a SD card.

It's not perfect, but audio is radio quality (it is a radio signal).

Only negative is the remote - which is all but useless in a car (very unforgiving infra red angle).

Heat from me!

HOt, good price

These are ok for background music, but you get aweful distortion on high notes once you use put the volume up its like poor radio quality

Got to be better than the warbly cassette player with a trapped Roger Whittaker tape in my dad's old Astra estate J-reg.

Had one a few years back, sound quality was unacceptable- like a 96kbps MP3 or something. Remote worked brilliantly- for 5 minutes.

Had to buy one,cheers.
Cost me £4.54.

You might want to check one of the discussion threads on the linked webpage regarding the quality of this version of the product - (Thread Subject: DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT BASED ON THE REVIEWS).

Here is a relevant part of one of the posts:

Please be informed before ordering this item! They have substantially redesigned it without changing the SKU, so the good reviews you read are NOT for this product anymore. The old item was great, and very worth the money. The new one is completely useless. Myself and others are trying to get refunds or credit for their bait-and-switch. Namely, the main changes are:

1. The multi-function LCD has been swapped for a very simple three-digit readout, even though the packaging itself still shows otherwise.

2. Unit no longer beeps when pressing buttons on remote. This was helpful as it could be finicky picking up the remote, so you would at least have confirmation of keypresses.

3. Unit no longer keeps memory of last track played. This is ESSENTIAL, and now gone. So now every time you start your car it goes to the first track.

4. Unit no longer remembers last frequency used, also ESSENTIAL. It defaults to 87.5 every time you start your car, no matter what you set it at previously.

I just want the DE crowd here to remain informed, since we rely on everyone else's reviews. That works well until DE switches the product on us, then sells thousands of junk items based on now invalid user descriptions. Buyers beware!

Mind you - for under a fiver, still looks like a good 'Boy's Toy'!!

I bought this version a couple of weeks ago and I'm really impressed with the audio quality compared with a stand alone transmitter connected to my MP3 player
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11218

It's a bit more expensive but it has a better display and remembers last track and frequency.

Sound quality is excellent IMO but my music taste is poor and I'm deaf in one ear -so not much of a judge!

I've put a 2gb sc card in and it's very happy playing away all day pretty basic operation but can play random tracks etc.

Several gripes - no off switch, poor IR, can't search by folders but apart from that it's great.

Neilc> Thanks for the tip; for the sake of a couple of quid more and the hope of a better product, I've cancelled my order for OP's item and ordered yours instead. Cheers.
Thanks to OP for posting original item and making me aware of these items.
Bye bye, Roger!

For a moment I thought "Oh, erm, poo"!

I've just bought summat similar from Amazon at £12.99:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E3LKHA.

After an hour trawling for reviews it was this TeckNet modulator that had the best reviews. I haven't received it yet so cannot comment on it.

I bought one of these last year !! It lasted a few months before there was a bad reception. Still good value all the same !
#16
i ordered one and the fuse was already blown in it.
Anyone know where I can get another one of those fuses ? Never been able to use it and DE just dont care
Thanks
#17
do these have an lcd screen showing name of the track? or is is just abbit random?
#18
cyrus - sorry to ask a dumb question but did you check the packaging?

Mine came with a spare fuse in there.

I ordered this last year and havnt used it since initially testing it. The sound quality was that bad. I already had a fm trasmitter that ran on batterys and the sound quality of that was perfectly acceptable, but i bought this cos it ran off the car lighter port.

Buyer beware,m you experience with this product will be dominated by the interference levels that your car recieves, but for under a fiver, it may be worth the risk.

I dont understand the difference between FM transmitter and FM modulator. People always say go for a modulator but I have no idea why

Brill. I might include you as a friend as you are so nice. Point out pitfalls so that we don't have to. Nice human!

FM transmitter transmits a low-energy radio signal which is then picked up by the radio through its antenna. Problematic in a car environment because of the inherent electrical noise, position of the antenna (and the fact that a car's shell acts as a partial Faraday cage, attenuating the signal). Different cars will give different performance with these.

FM modulator is similar to connecting an old VCR to a TV -- it's a wired connection direct to the radio's antenna port. This should be much better because it's a physical connection. Still not quite the same as a phono connection though.

Thanks, neilc. I was looking for an FM Transmitter to bung in with my brother's Xmas, this looks decent. Any other opinions of this item?
