Excellent cheap replacement car stereo.
Especially since it can read DVD's full of MP3s along with USB sticks ans SD cards.
It would be an amazing deal if teh unit displayed the track information properly and allowed you to skip between the 50 Albums or so of MP3s more easily.

But then for less than £45 it makes an excellent cheap replacement for a car which only has an old CD or Tape player in.

**You will have to spend another fiver to get free delivery.

Features:

CD/MP3/VCD/DVD/MP4 compatible
USB/SD/MMC Card input
Video output via a suitable display (composite video output)
Electronic Anti-shock mechanism
Intro/Repeat/Random playback
AM/FM Reciever with 30 preset memory
Electronic Volume Control

will the USB work with an ipod?
#3
I've had this stereo for about six months now, bought from ebuyer for the same price.
Its definitely a budget model, but having said that well worth the price paid.
It works with my generic mp3 player but not sure about an Ipod?

Not 100% sure but it does have an Aux input, on the front of the unit, which could be used to plug an ipod into.

Sorry I couldn't help further

thanks mikerr
I looked back about a month to see if anyone had posted it, but that was posted back in October.

Kewl
It looks like you can skip forward by album folder via the remote control. by pressing left, down, ok :w00t:
This is fantastic news. Thanks again mikerr

Forgive my ignorance but will this play 'm4a' tracks from my ipod/itunes if I copy them to an SD card?

Hi all, I think I should warn you all, my cousin had this and after about 2 months the LCD display just completely went!

I suggest it's not wise buying a product so cheap when it is loaded with such features. For example, would you rather buy a Sony HD TV or an Alba HD TV with the same specs. In products like these, craftsmanship is as key as the features.

Good point, but for £45, you could treat it like a disposable car stereo!!!

what are the connections like? Will this work in my ford escort which currently has a cassette player?

If you dont want to mess about with cutting wires, which you might not need to do anyway, Halfords sell the lead you'll need to just plug and go. From memory they were around a fiver but a connector block will cost you a lot less and its easy peasy to DIY.

So do you think this would work with an USB based external hard drive ?? I was given a very small 80GB External Hard Drive for Xmas - it doesn't need power, only a USB cable. When you plug it in to a PC it works exactly like a USB Flash drive, coming up as a Mass Media Device. I can't see why it wouldn't work, so I'm thinking that having 80GB permanently inside the glove box could be a nice cheap way of having a jukebox in the car.

Anyone know any more?

Most of the cheap head units have a limit of 1GB. Im not sure about this one but at the price im thinking that it has a limit too. Maybe 80GB is too much for it to read from.

I bought a very similar dvd player to this unfortunately from ebay which is highly unadvisable. it was fine but then inexplicably went after a short while...save up and get a better one!

Can anyone find a suitable (headlining mounted) flip down display for this for a decent price?

I have one of these. Just plugged my 60GB USB into the slot and it powered it up. However, it didnt read within the file structure. It may need items to be in the route DIR. I'll have another go later.

Maybe it can only read the FAT32 file system, not NTFS?

I just thought I'd mention that our local Aldi had a similar CD player for £39.99 and I think it includes a 3yr warranty

ALDI do indeed - I got one in Black finish (do them in Silver too). YES has a 3 year warranty.

CD/MP3/WMA (not protected ones though!)

Comes with 3.5mm lead, and USB extension, takes 1GB FAT32 SD cards, has USB socket and Aux 3.55mm in.

Has an ISO wiring harness included too!

Details here at the distributors/supporters website
http://www.fascin8.co.uk/MP3/5705.htm

Haven't fitted it yet and don't expect it to be 'high-fidelity' but at that price for that package it was a no brainer upgrade to my old cassette/radio player.

It reads DVDs which are 4.7GB (or 8.5 if its double sided!!!)

We aren't talking about DVDs we are talking about the USB function :whistling:

i have brought two of these and returned both..the 1st one had buttons which were stuck and the the 2nd refused to play any cd for longer than 2 minutes....on top of that their very ugly and stick out loads and not easy to use with really poor menus...its really not worth it....you get what you pay for....just spend abit more and buy something decent that might actually look good and function correctly.

I thought you were going to reply with that!!!:p:p

I bought a second one of these for an xmas present for the missus! This thread prompted me to fit it tonight..... until I realised she has lost one of the U clip puller outers for her old radio! Ho hum - saved me a job!

Could you not make one with a coat hanger or use a couple of small screwdrivers?
#23
I got the Aldi one, but never installed it until about ten months after I got it.

For MP3 via disk or SD card it is wonderful, but the radio is lousy - so much so I am going to return it to them as unless you are very close to the signal - it makes a sound like the first .5 of a second of someone striking a match every 3 or 4 secs.

It also sometimes comes on and wont work - but glows all the LEDs in the display at 50% brightness, and cannot be restarted until the front has been removed and the car has stopped.

It also aways starts too loudly - but i guess this can be adjusted as there are LOADS of settings which just are not covered in the 8 page manual.

It would also be good toning down the brightness of the display - as if you are driving where their are no street lights at night - it reflects bright light blue light off most windows in the car.

Any success stories with the Aldi Tevion 5705 one? Both look tempting but also both look like a bit of a gamble...!
#25
Why are people comparing an Aldi MP3 player with this DVD player?
#26
Good one! I think I need one :))
