How are you finding the handling on the Polestar so far during any "spirited" driving times on country roads? Been unable to test drive as none of my local dealers actually have one to try. Though might make the two hour trip shortly to the dealer that actually has one. Always like to weigh up other options or should I say trying to find a reason not to order the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde.
No issues here with handling - it's no lotus and there is a sense of it's weight, but the way it grips is nigh on preposterous for a car of any size/weight. Being AWD means it's an entirely different animal to the likes of an M3 (and I assume the Giulia would be broadly comparable). If you're doing track days or quarter miles all day then it's not going to keep up with the Giulia clearly, but then it's not supposed to. For point to point pace on public roads both cars are well beyond what's legal or sensible though. In sport mode with DTC disengaged the torque is biased towards the rear and going sideways is possible, but the levels of grip mean that breaking the rear free on public roads is a terrible, terrible idea.
The transmission on the outgoing I6 Polestar has its quirks and isn't the quickest. Polestar have done what they can with the software and in sport mode it will try to make sure you stay on the boil rather than having to change about too much - this sometimes means that it doesn't or does shift when you think it will, but you get used to it. Manual is fine but you do have to pre-empt your shift points by a half a second or so. This is really the only component that prevents it from being perfect for me.
The box in the new 4-cyl polestar is supposed to be far better. In spite of the power boost at the top end, I'm fairly certain the 6-cyl is faster in-gear, but the new 8-speed in the 4-cyl more than makes up for it. The I6 makes an uttrerly demonic noise though, and there's nothing to replace that in the I4 unfortunately.
I got it as I wanted a quick AWD petrol wagon that wasn't from VAG - not a lot of options out there that fit the bill. Having had it for nearly a year now, love it to bits and wouldn't swap it out for anything in the price range given a second chance.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. Not much out there as you say outside of the VAG's and always had a thing for those understated polestar versions they sneak out at times.

Great car - have a had a V60 Polestar since the end of last year and love it to bits. The seats (Best. Seats. Ever - and my other car is a 7-series), the driver aids are useful and not too intrusive in their most relaxed setting, the heated windscreen is fantastic when the temps drop and just little things are a really nice touch (parking ticket clip, boot dividers and nets, and even the folding flexibility of the seats). I'm getting atrocious fuel mileage (17mpg average over the last 4k miles), but would expect a T4 to fare far better.
The multimedia and nav user interface leaves a little bit to be desired compared to the Germans IMO, but it's still plenty usable. Free map updates as well, which is really nice.

Man are u serious? I would walk into alfa tomorrow and order one over this. This does not compare with 503bhp and an lsd.

I know I know, always like to weigh up the options before I buy but my heart had already been on the Giulia since it's conception despite the never ending wait for the actual release. Always had a thing though about the understated Polestar versions, I would think that Volvo should be shouting alot more than they do about those versions.
cash deal? do they charge an admin fee if paying by cash . much like car giant do

CAVE seems to be the old engine and CTHE is the new engine.

A few of the Comments:

* Sept 2012 CTHE 62 plate - Engine replaced at 6759 miles, now on 9265.

* 2013 63 plate CTHE (engine built in Oct 2012 I think). Engine replaced at 6200 miles in September this year as it was using 1L oil per 1000 miles

* Took delivery of new car in July 2012 and have 1st engine replacement in December the same year (over xmas and new year) and took over 3 weeks for job completion

Just highlighting the possible issues for others, who can research for themselves via google if they are considering this car.

Edited By: alexandercooper on May 20, 2014 19:54
@Alex, if you actually read any of the comments you would see that this has been resolved with a new engine, a revised one, one with more power than the old one too.

I know, I have one.

Still a Skoda though..........for that reason im out...no vote :{

What car you've got?
Let me guess? Vauxhall? :D

No ....Ford Pop as per picture, Alfa Romeo Spider V6 and a reps BMW 3 series. The bus is for the people who have nothing better to do than sit OBBOGOF here all day long and then use it to collect their Income support........O and insult people who have an opinion :|

Who talk about your opinion? The fact that you put a car down just because it's not a brand you prefer, that's the problem...
What you'll find is that when you ring CarFile tho they'll tell you about the £400 increase in Skoda prices across the range (which is true) and bump this price up £400. The better price is actually to be found at orangewheels (although not by much) as their prices are guaranteed. I have just last week ordered a Fabia Monte Carlo so am speaking from recent experience. CarFile are legit just haven't got around to updating their website prices...

Hot from me. A lot of car for money considering a pretty standard astra or focus can set you back in excess of £16k
jumpingmattflash
I got an st 2 about six weeks ago and absolutely love it. the car is called smiler as it puts a massive cheesy grin on my face when I see n drive it.

MPG is the only thing it needs more of. I get about 28mpg urban being careful, 32mpg on a long run. The car sounds amazing when you hoof it but does miss an LSD under acceleration. however thats reflected in the price. golfs have them but are a lot more ££

Nice little review - bet you are loving it! They do sound nice. See this is the only problem for me, as you have said, you miss the LSD. I have a car with a Drexxler diff and I would struggle to get a car without an LSD now.

I've noticed on the dtuk site that they do 2 boxes, one for economy and one for power. Be interesting to know whether you have gone for the power box and still getting those great mpg returns.

I also assume you only starting using the box once the you've run in the engine from new (say 1000 miles).

Thanks

I put the box on at 4k miles, well run in by that point, although you probably wouldn't be daft putting it on anytime after 1000 miles for run in. The mpg i've been talking about is actual (brim method). Without the box on, the MFD is 3% optimistic and with it is about 9% optimistic, so appears to be overfuelling on average 6% more than the ECU thinks it is. Going to work (12 mile commute each way), the car reads about 52mpg in current weather, I take this to be around 47.5mpg actual. That's without sparing the horses. The car would appear to be more economical than stock when you're not putting your foot down, cancelling out it's additional thirst when you do. The car has been transformed with the box.

Mine is the dual channel performance one.

Thanks Monkeyhanger for your comments. Have PM'd you.

Doesn't look like a colour fade to me just looks like a very dirty car, hence the dirty tyre threads.

must be ... so how does that explain the equally dirty tread on the not so dirty car behind ... just an observation :)

Maybe the 1 at the back was washed and the foreground one wasn't.
is this the normal 1.8 or the more efficient and powerful vvt engine

I do love the jealousy of some people on here. People dont like Merc/audi/BMW drivers when they are pottering about in their rusty pug because they cant afford something nice.
Drive a decent car like the Audi A4 (or A5), or Merc SLK/C-class/E-class and you will see why those of us who can afford it choose to spend a few quid more on quality. Love my Merc, it's beautiful to drive or look at, and I DO stop and let people out, probably more than most in their cheapo cars.
Driving a decent car doesnt make you an idiot (although I admit SOME are) it just means you can afford it, most of the time because you have worked hard for what you have. Don't like it? Get the bus with the rest of the benefit claimants.

That's probably the same people, who take extra shifts to buy discounted new Chevrolet Spark and drive it at 65mph in the right lane on their way to Tesco, because someone posted 50p off toilet paper deal.

Besford
1648 degrees but has anyone actually ordered one?

I think you can pretty much guarantee it can't be bought at this price - every car ordered for stock will have some of those very expensive extras and will be close to unsaleable without them as the base specification is VERY basic and only a start point to add options really. The German brands are masters at this.

As for those addicted to 'German' cars, where do you think this is built? Last time I looked at C-Class (some years ago) it was built in South Africa!

Where it is built is pretty irrelevent.
Its German designed and spec'd.

I largely agree but it can be an eye opener for the brand-addicted who seem to think that anything built in Germany is good and anything from elsewhere poor. Not true of course: most Mercedes and many other German cars are mediocre at best. M-B are still recovering from a period of awful quality and many of their vehicles are, frankly, poor by comparison with others in their sectors. In the UK at least it's capped by a pretty poor dealer network too (overpriced and poor customer service). It's probably true to say that only the S Class has been consistently ahead of the game but you still have to use that dealer network.

Back to the post - it really isn't a 'deal' for the reasons I gave earlier: good luck to the OP but the heat this has collected is naive and ridiculous.
