Carmageddon: Reincarnation (PC) £9.30 @ kickstarter

norbienorbie

The classic game is back! The original game creators are seeking crowd funding to produce a much hyped sequel and for pledging $15 (£9.30) you can get a copy of the finished game and appear in the credits!

"…Max Damage is back! Carmageddon: Reincarnation is going to reintroduce the gaming world to the original freeform driving sensation, where pedestrians (and cows) equal points and your opponents are a bunch of crazies in a twisted mix of automotive killing machines. It’s the racing game where racing is for wimps."

What happens if it doesn't reach the $400,000.00 target?

    Green-blooded zombies instead of red-blooded humans. :(

Guys I'm well aware of the stigma that may surround Kickstarter, I've backed a project on here and so far they've come good on everything they said they'd do, but it's down to what you think of the credentials put forward.

I've personally put down $50 for Carmageddon, I want the spare copy to give to a friend when it comes out. Here's my take on Kickstarter and this particular project.

    1. You're crowd funding the project. The kickstarter rewards give you some sort of product at the end of it based on your contribution, and yes the project could go off the rails, but this isn't buying from a store, this is investment in something you want to happen, risk is part of the territory, but...

    2. This is not a new I.P. This is the same people that made Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2 (the very reason I got a PC in 1998), so they already know the process of making a game, and it's a well loved game that people are going to want.

    3. With digital distribution and commercially available 3d engines like Unreal Engine, Crytek, Source etc. the cost of development and distribution has gone down. They can viably distribute this on Steam without having to get wholesale warehouses to stock their boxed game, and a deal with a chain like GAME.

    4. They WILL reach $400,000, in fact in 28 days I wouldn't be surprised if they hit 1 - 1.5 million, a lot of people have wanted a new Carmageddon for a long time. But if you're worried about them not reaching $400,000 just wait a few days and see, even once it's fully funded you can still contribute and get the rewards. If for some reason they don't reach the target, you don't pay anything.

    5. Payment is by Amazon Payments, they authorise and reserve the money on your card, but don't take it till the funding time ends. I funded a project called The Dead Linger and so far they've done everything they said they would, and they don't have a track record like Stainless.

Hope this helps some of you not as familiar with it or not sure about this project.

Nothing. If funding is unsuccessful, all pledges are canceled and that's that.

BTW, the first $7,500 backer was 'Notch' - the guy who created Minecraft, I'm pretty certain this will reach the target as it's created a lot of hype! (Only went live yesterday). https://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/199882698284740609

I thought kickstarter was limited to Americans?

WOW, I'm all over it, I want a new carmageddon!

I've done kickstarters, they're not limited to Americans

Worth noting that there's very little accountability with kickstarter. If you fund it, it reaches the target and the project later fails, you lose your money.

Also, make sure your pledges include enough money to pay for the shipping otherwise you'll get nothing.

I'm backing them, Carmageddon was awesome. I know my £9odd will be well spent, shame I can't afford to pledge enough to be on a billboard in the game! lol

Well the example pledge I gave here is for a digital copy of the game so there's no shipping fees to consider.

Stainless is a reputable company and will (digitally) deliver the goods!

    :D Gave me a chuckle!

Have never pedged anything on kickstarter yet. Managed to completely miss the whole thing with the Lucas Arts point and click guy wanting cash for a new adventure game but might take a punt on this one.

Just a shame it cost them so much to buy back the rights to the name of the game they created is all. Doesn't seem right when companies buy up the rights to games just to stop rival games getting made, and if this Kickstarter thing takes off, maybe game creators can slowly free themselves of the shackles of all the legal nonsense that gets in the way of creativity.

Imagine how much better this game could be if that $300,000 had gone into the game instead of into a copyright deal?

Abolutely awesome. I spent way too many hours playing the original, and am more than happy to give back!

Also, for £9, it's way cheaper than what I paid for the game in the 90's. Can't say that about most things, thanks internet!
