actually I would like to report some excellent customer service from CP4L

I realised that although I had used their parts finder based on my car registration, the wear sensor was for BMWs ---> 3/2010 whereas mine is 2011

so I phoned them up to change the part for another which was £2 more expensive - the nice guy just waived the difference

well done, carparts4less

TRIPLE QX 5w40 IS £12.99 Delivered today as well. - Cheers OP
not bad...thanks.
Yep, got a few containers of this on the shelf. It's great value!

Also note, that until midnight the 12% code is valid on everything. Free postage over a tenner. Might help some. Just don't buy your service items in Halfords, their prices are laughable :D

Heat OP.
Seems a good price to me. I've just paid 37 Euros for 4 litres of mineral stuff from Morris lubricants (good brand). But that was in Greece and their economics defies logic.

Correct, you are no expert!

As long as this oil meets the spec for your car then it is absolutely fine!

just found this code SAV3029 for 7.5% off a £10 spend, CP15LESS for £15 off a £100 spend + possibly 5.5% quido or tcb
Will try stacking them later, when I get time. Will start the purchase, apply one of yours then leave it to see if I get the offer of 5% off whole purchase, including the already applied discount.

You can only use one code.

Buy Bosch or Varta Silver. I'd only be tempted with one of these if they gave away free jump leads!
Rubbish claim! I bought a Exide battery from ECP and it failed after 10 months, I got a replacement under warranty. The ECP outlet told me although they sell mostly LION batteries they get more Exide and Bosch returns. I'll buy a LION next time, still 3year warranty. Lead acid cells are 2.1 volts each multiplied by 6, a new battery should read 12.6 to 12.7 volts at rest.
Read #47 above.

Actually if you read Wiki it says between 2.1 volts and 2.32 volts, but on my mechanics course several years ago we were told 2.2 and that seems to middle it.

What is water made up from again?
same battery is on eBay sold by same company for 35.99 after purchasing paypal recipet showed payment was taken by Eurocarparts which is same company as carparts4less and usually most stuff is cheaper on carparts4less with free delivery but the One so ff ebay is again under a different seller id not sure why they do that i suppose they have clicked in that some people pay extra just for a well known name and some dont so they just have multiple names anf charge different prices bit of a con and a waste of time for people to find the cheapest price's
If batteries fail prematurely, it usually means that the battery has been sitting on a warehouse shelf for months on end. Try and buy from a company who gets a regular turnover of stock. Just a tip! A battery hates sitting about uncharged.

Also about my above comment, when I did research into batteries for my car, a lot of research, Johnson Controls made pretty much all the batteries of this type in the UK. They have 3 levels of performance and you can see this over different brands models. I think they change numbers about slightly on the cases for some, but if you opened them up, I'd bet that a cheap no-name brand would be the same as a Bosch or Varta inside. All use the same outer mouldings. I went for the cheapest with the longest warranty. The price for this Bosch is still excellent by the way.
I used halfords battery checker on my car reg and it gave me the largest possible battery that would fit.
As its a diesel car and need a lot of power to start it in the cold i opted for a 800cca varta f18.
At -15 temp it fired up as if it was a summers day. That was after i had prised the boot open and climbed through as the doors were frozed shut.

Why are people arguing about this offer. Its a good price for a battery is it not ???.
Will this go in bmw 1 series?

This is fairly good semi-synthetic oil (about the same as, say Castrol GTX). It would be fine for most non-turbo engines. I think the RRP is about £23, but you could probably buy it for £15 so this is quite a good deal.

Has been £21 in my local Tesco Extra Dereham store since the start of November. Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 C3. 4 litres.
Prior to that used 'my tyres' website for the same oil, about a week to deliver from Germany.
Halfords do a Christmas special of own brand 4 litre oils from Boxing Day, can reserve online Christmas Day (not ashamed to say I have!) so worth checking their website in a couple of weeks.

I use castrol edge 5w-40 to top up and my car uses a lot of oil, but at nearly twice the price, could I switch to this and mix oils or is that not advisable?
Provided the oil you're currently using matches the specs of this, then that will be fine. However, if it's anything but 5W-40, or doesn't meet your manufacturers oil grade specs then I'd advise against it.
Of course, in an emergency any oil is better than driving with too little oil.
Technically correct but if your car is eating oil then the exact viscosity or spec is of little consequence, these figures are for extreme conditions and maximum time between changes ,it's not staying there long enough. You are, in effect doing oil changes every few hundred miles (shame about the filter)
jrw
Link not working
need to put in your car reg details
The 5w and 10w refer to its viscosity ( runniness) at low temps. The lower the figure the quicker it flows round your engine at cold start up.As these figures are for new oil first time used they, like cars claimed MPG, mean little in the real world. Your car,not in the first flush of use and not under manufacturers warranty should be fine on either (unless you live at the North Pole)
I've looked on the site and it recommends 5W-40 and 10W-40 engine oils for my car - can somebody tell me the difference between the 5W and the 10W one - I have a 2006 Citroen Xsarra Picasso (Diesel)? Thank you.
Damn, Quidco didn't come up when i searched cashback maxamizer. Only TCB @2.1%

Point 1 Wrong why do our engines last 10 years with same oil provided dont get adverse oil samples
Ie fuel dilution high sodium from boiled off coolant from (liner seals or cracked heads)

Well I suspect either (a) you're talking BS or (b) your "adverse oil samples" rate is higher than you suggest. Again there's lots of documentation on how oil works and why it eventually fails and none of it tallies with your opinion.

0scar222
Engines dont suffer any excessive wear ie cranks still as new after 20 years .That stuffs your theory of oil wearing out

Are you a troll?

0scar222
Yes its crank case ventilation its small amount of piston blow by , but the oil is separated out
So only the fumes and no oil

In that case you must be using Amazing Oil™ with permanently macro particle sizes and no vaporisation of any sort under all conditions.
LandOfConfusion
Crikey, I thought you'd ran away but here you are 2 weeks later!
0scar222
Yes oil can last 10 years I maintain 3000 hp diesels oil is only ever changed if adverse oil sample found or at major overhauls
All oil suffers wear, whether it be shear, oxidation or simply additive depletion and that applies to large industrial diesel engines as much as 'small' car engines.
0scar222
These engines have much harder life than your average car engine and normally suffer no more than normal wear
Its just more economical to change oil in car than sample then have tested
Probably true, it costs around £30 (retail) for an oil assay, which is about the same replacement oil but even so the oil is unlikely to last beyond 2 years, even with regular, heavy driving.
0scar222
As for crankcase breather only oil mist/fumes there if engine already knackered
As the oil should stay in sump not go out exhaust !!!
Again this is completely different from what I've been told, from what I've seen and even conflicts with manufacturer advice.http://auto.howstuffworks.com/positive-crankcase-ventilation-system.htm
The above link provides an overview of what happens and why and I suspect that if you check you'll find your diesel has a similar system (or has a catch can/bowl and just vents to atmosphere oO).

Unless you have well knackerd engine beyond what ventilation system can cope with

Probably true, it costs around £30 (retail) for an oil assay, which is about the same replacement oil but even so the oil is unlikely to last beyond 2 years, even with regular, heavy driving.

As for crankcase breather only oil mist/fumes there if engine already knackered
As the oil should stay in sump not go out exhaust !!!

Again this is completely different from what I've been told, from what I've seen and even conflicts with manufacturer advice.

The above link provides an overview of what happens and why and I suspect that if you check you'll find your diesel has a similar system (or has a catch can/bowl and just vents to atmosphere oO).

good oil and price and is officially approved by vw, heat

I don't see any mention of VW approval in the product listing, although there is an indication that it meets the rather old 502.00 & 505.00 specs. Incidentally I'd be concerned if it didn't meet 502.00 as that predates even the ACEA's most basic A1 standard (we're now on A5).

I'm surprised this has been up for 4 hours without one derogatory opinion about Triple QX oil.

QX oils have been posted on here time and time again and I suspect the knowledgeable posters have now had enough pointing out it's defects and wasting their valuable time.

the fuel filter I can see being a lot more var specific depending on the fuel type of the car, for example diesel ones I was looking at were 25quid plus, but for conventional petrol cars they are a similar price to oil filters by rule of thumb.
