Planning to go for the 18" bike. I am 5' 8" so should be fine. Would I be correct?

Can you please measure your inside leg length?

Mine is 32", which is somewhere between 20"/21" frame size. Also if are going to spend a lot of time off the road, a frame that is a little too small is better.

I am 5' 8" with 31" inside leg and I would say the 18" frame is way too small for me. Pity as I followed the guidelines on Halfords website. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_14552_productId_809057_langId_-1_categoryId_165534?ThickBoxMode=Y&TB_iframe=true&TB_C_TITLE=bike%20size%20guide&width=787
According to the guide I should have:
5´ 3" - 5´ 8" 30" - 33" / 76cm - 84cm 16" - 17"
So now I am stuck with a bike that is too wee for me.
I do all my cycling on the road and tend to always sit so a good seat height to handlebar height distance is important. My seat is now positioned higher than bars and this does not make for a comfortable ride.
Anyone want a bike? Only covered 5 miles!!!!

the frame does feel small, I had an old carrera subway 1 originally which was 20" so went off that for guidance, lately I have been riding my father in laws Dawes mountain bike which is also 20" but feels bigger, strange

I also have a Specialised Crossroads similar frame size and it is so much bigger. The two bikes side by side look like an adult bike next to a child's bike. Both bike's are hybrids.
Seems different manufacturers use different ways of measuring the frame. Carrera seem to measure there's quite differently to Specialised, hence the difference.
I am only 5' 8" and my 18" bikes seat is almost adjusted to near its limit.
I am really disappointed with this purchase but looks like I am now stuck with it.
So a bit of advice if buying a Carrera from Halfords. Go into the store and have a good look around before buying and make sure you are comfortable on the choice of bike.

Talk to the local store manager about getting it swapped. I can't imagine Halfords not doing some sort of deal, after all this must happen all the time!?

May be they will allow you to swap the tires of yours onto a replacement 20" frame one?

Thanks but I am just going to keep it as I have started to adapt it to suit my personal requirements. Adding an adjustable bike stem to raise the angle of the handlebars upwards and towards me, and adding Ravx Llite extra long bar ends to enable me to adjust my hand grip position on longer journeys.

I to have brought an 18" Ltd edition and I am 5'9". I tried a Carrera 1 or 2 or and the 18" frame was fine - I could'nt have taken the 20" frame. However I when I paid for the bike on Sunday the I sat on the 18th ltd edition very briefly and it felt smaller... I have'nt taken it out of the shop yet so will ask to try a 20" ltd edition - I wonder if Carrera have changed the frame sizes on the Ltd edition??

had my ltd edition subway for a couple of days now and loving it, only problems i have found are the white seat gets dirty waaaaaaaaaaay to easy, so gonna change that and the also the white plugs on the end of the handlebars. Apart from that great bike so far and a real head turner with the white rims

In the end for me the 18" was fine. I don't think I could take the larger size. A little disappointed on the weight as it feels quite hefty..
and yes the saddle does mark easily.... and isn't that comfortable.......

Do you use your bike mainly for road use? I do and find that the handlebar height is not very comfortable as it is too low compared to the seat height, so lot of weight on the wrists. I tend to sit all the time when cycling though. I have raised the bars slightly.

mixture for me; I think the style now for allot of bikes is to have low handlebars.... have you tried fitting a new stem? or is this when the frame starts to feel small ??

Yes I did try to raise the bars but did not make much difference. Anyway, took it out for the first time yesterday and it has a terrible clunk with every revolution of the pedal. Had to return home after only three miles. Sounds like the main pedal crank bearing is knackered. So the bike is going back and not accepting anything less than a full refund.

These are lovely bikes. I bought one just before christmas. Lasted 3 weeks before some scumbag nicked it. Question is, do I buy this and sell the half-built replacement, or stick with my home-built one...decisions, decisions.

Just swapped mine for a 20" bike (from 18"). What a difference it makes. Much more comfortable handlebar height. There is no way an 18" Carrera hybrid bike is suitable for someone 5' 8" unless you spend most of the time standing rather than sitting.

check your tyre pressures guys mine was at 30 when max PSI is 65, bit of an oversight on halfords part their unfortunately, I have one slight gripe and thats when i hit any bump I get a rattle at the front, not sure if its my gear levers or the disc brakes but I will mention it all the same when i take it back for its service
