Great price

crap bike though. Bought it last week then took it back. constant rattle when riding. Not the only person as a few people took it back as sane reason.
#3
Where was the rattle coming from?
#4
Can't complain at £200, don't forget quidco

Do you think the 54cm is too small for me? (I'm 6ft with 33-34" inside leg)
#6
I'd like to know this too. I'm just under 6ft.

You need a 56cm at least.

That's annoying. I was going by the vague halfords size guide rather than the more detailed ones from Evans etc. I haven't paid yet so if it doesn't seem right when I go in to collect it, I can always say no. Are Halfords likely to get annoyed if they build a bike up only for you not to end up buying it?

Would you really care if they did ?...... I wouldn't !

Thanks!! Halfords size guides aren't fantastic!

The Felt F95 posted earlier is a far better bike, however, it is £360. If you are looking at getting into road cycling then the Felt is the one to go for,if you can stump up the extra.

wouldnt have thought so, if you didnt buy it someone else would so it will need building at some point, they usually have loads on display pre built anyway

Also for around £500 you can get full 10 speed Tiagra, so you're best sticking to a budget.

Thanks for letting us know, I never thought that a £360 bike would be better than a £199 Halfords bike... at least that's cleared up now ;)

hard to say, I'm 5ft11 and I took the 54" Decathlon BTwin Triban 3. the 56" felt a bit too long for me.

As always, pays to try one... hth

Was that your first road bike? It's the new position you're not used to but I dislike being too far from the handlebars myself. A shorter stem would have corrected that.

probably true, I came from commuting on a fixed gear track bike. Got a shorter geometry. Also, I'm over the hill and can't get me hammies stretched out any more :)
#20
Hmm okay, I've got one reserved so I'll pop down tonight/tomorrow night.

I think I'm liking the Felt 95 more now...

I'm 6' 1" and the 54cm is definitely big enough for me. I bought this bike 3 weeks ago for £215 and can't have any complaints with it. Excellent value for money!

Also just as a heads up, halfords tend to do a 10% off everything (including the 10% off all road bikes) online during random lunchtimes once a fortnight or so.

From what I've read it's a decent bike and very good value for money especially at only £199. Now the rattling maybe down to Halfords staff not tightening everything up properly, which isn't the fault of the bike.

Please point me in the direction of a better bike road bike for under £200 as I haven't been able to find one.

For anyone who has one already - How do you find the 14 gears ? My MTB and hybrid bikes both have more gears, and i use them all on the hills ! Is the gearing ok on this Carrera TDF ? I'm thinking of buying one as my first road bike.

I converted one of these into a matt black t.t. bike and had no issues at all for two seasons... 10 miles t.t,s at 23 minutes...

The bike is £180 if you buy the vouchers for £200 here - http://select.halfordsbusinessservices.co.uk/ - and then apply the discount code ELGHAL13. You need to register on this website first before you can apply the code.

Remember to reserve the bike with the extra 10% off code first and then buy 10 x £20 vouchers.

EDIT: OP, just edit your post to say £180 instead of £199 and insert the tutorial in the description.

Do you know what the turn around time is on the vouchers?

It used to be next day delivery but due to the high volume of vouchers requested due to all the Carrera deals recently, there will be a slight delay in the delivery. Not sure how long but you can ask this question in the other bike threads as they have a lot more activity from the thread posters.

Reserved mine this morning and rang up early evening to make sure it was ready to pick up and was told it was as it was still in the box. I was told that because it was a web exclusive one day only deal at £199 they didn't plan to build it, but they would but it wouldn't be ready till the weekend. Not really a problem for me but I hadn't expected to have to arrange for it to be built as I had assumed it would be as standard. I don't know if anyone else has had the same issue.

I see where you're coming from. Unrelated subject but I needed to replace my 2003 Vauxhall Vectra on a budget of 2k but I noticed a 50k bmw was better so I settled for that.

Meh... should've just forked out another 800k and got yourself a Veyron - I hear that's the one to go for these days.
#33
It's gone back up to £269 (£242.10 after the 10% code).
#34
Grr, this was the one I wanted, looks like they've been steadily upping the price again and now it's back to £269. That's annoying, wish I'd found this thread earlier...

Got mine today (54cm), really impressed with it for the price! Like a few people on here I'm completely new to road bikes, the toe clips will take some getting used to but very happy with it. Thanks OP!
