Type the code in instead of copying and pasting. Don't know why this works but I've encountered it before elsewhere.

Cold. Weekend before last it was £213.40 with quidco.

It's been 'half price' for some time http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/carrera-vengeance-limited-edition-mountain-bike-274-99-halfords/916095

I think you should have posted it as a deal then
#11
right, so as Halfords had an extra 20% off all Carrera's (which was posted on here) you think that a deal should be posted for every single Carrera bike on their site? As there was already a deal posted for this bike when it was half price, I didn't feel the need to post another.

I imagine as the 20% was automatically taken off, you could have then used the 10% code or one of the others floating about too.

Thanks. Used the MVCBIKES10 code and it worked.
Didn't want the chance the NUS one bcause i've read that they have been known to ask to see your NUS card upon purchase instore.
Been looking at a basic bike for a while, and whilst this is not the bog-standard Apollo - it seemed to have good reviews and will do the job for some rough riding at weekends and daily road tripping.
I took advantage of their 3 for 2 offer as well for a decent lock - Bikehut appeared to be a good shackle and extender.
Let's hope some sub-human scum doesn't nick it.

i live on the mountain, so it is really good for me, but the price is expensive!:(
#14
It's ok, but you can get a better one for just a bit more.
Google paulscycles and look on there.

Brought off him before when one off the bikes was at half price.
Still have it now 2 years on with noting wrong with it.

good price! But I can't ride bike

Price is very tempting, how is quality? Got to check it out. I had one bike for my son, it broke soon later. Now it is there rusting. People bought already, let me know. Thanks.
#17
That's a pretty nice bike, If I had the money I'd get it...not really fond of my hybrid bike.
#18
Good price but be careful of Halfords, I bought the carrera vengeance the other day, nice bike for the price extremely badly assembled, the rear wheel had a slow puncture when picked up, so i was unaware, and then when i tried to take it back after, they tried to blame me for the fault!

The gears were set up wrong, the brakes needed adjusting. Good price but make sure you can put it together yourself or know someone who can!

Only my experiences of course, others may have had more luck!
#19
My sons Carrera has extremely poor quality paint work. It flakes with the lightest of scratches, extremely poor quality.

On a seperate note I wouldn't let a Halfords monkey assemble a jigsaw, It took three attempts to get a fully functioning bike out of the store.

This is a good deal. I picked up a Vulcan V-spec for my Dad at the weekend with the 10% voucher & topcashback, bringing it to under £200. For an extra £50 the Vengeance is a good deal, but my Dad's budget was £200, and for that money the Vulcan was pretty much the best you could get. Having been into MTBing for getting on for 25 years, I'm amazed at what you can get for £200 these days compared with my late-80s £175 Raleigh Mustang....!

Also worth noting that you can get 4.5% cashback through quidco if you use the 'in store' cashback system (the one where you register your credit card with quidco and it recognises when you use the card in the selected merchants on the scheme)

I agree with this fully, I recently bought the Carrera and upon inspecting it once home, the front btake was almost falling off and the back wheel was not aligned properly and loose. The gears were also not set up correctly.

Also, I don't think this model has lockout on the suspension, so this may be a downside if riding on the road a lot....

Most people with a bit of intelligence tend to test ride the bike out in the car park and have any niggles fixed before they leave for home.....What people need to bare in mind is that halfords sell nearly half of all bike sold in the UK which means you will see some complaints and regurgitated halfords bashing from people that haven't even ever sat on a Carrera bike. The Carrera brand is well respected by the MTB community and it's very unlikely you will be able to beat bikes in the range at their price points for value and strenth. If you need more4 reasurance from people in the know, then go to bikeraidar and get a second opinion before parting with your cash.

This has to be the worst halfords story. On my second time on my bike the pedal flew off into the road. I was stuck in the country with no pedal.

You don't need a mountain bike then....road bike or hybrid will be faster.

No, the Dart 1 forks do not lock-out on this bike. You might see that other models of bike with Dart 1 forks have lock-out but these don't. I got this bike for this price about a month ago - it's a great bike!

ALL bottom end Alivio group set, forks terrible brakes i imagine are even worse
.the price is ok if your on a budget but the orignal RRP is ridiculous
if you want a cheap hack then go for it...or look at second hand rockhopper or hardrock!!

Halfords do have some very bad bike techs but they also have some very good ones. You can't tar them all with the same brush.

Halfords are at fault for keeping the bad ones though

Exactly. The guys in Basingstoke Halfords are always really helpful and good at what they do.

The hardrock is about the worst value in it's price range and the vengances Alvio gears are better than the cheaper low end Altus on the Hardrock which also has terrable forks and doesn't have hydraulic disc brakes like the vengeance does....in trying to slate this bike you have actually pointed ouit what good value it is against the lesser spec'd Hardrock Disc, which is over £100 more.

Shimano MTB gear range
1. XTR
2. Deore XT
3. Deore LX
4. DX
5. Deore
6. Alivio
7. Acera
8. Altus
9. Tourney

This deal has been posted before in different guises, the RRP of the Vengeance is tosh, but its a good bike. Makes me even more sure that I made the right decision getting the Kraken (MAJOR thanks to slamdunkin for making me see sense on the Specialised Hardrock!!) for £303 + a £10 store voucher (which I used part of to buy a Lizard skin... best thing EVER!!!)

All valid points, assuming you're buying the bike on price alone.

Some folk will just find it a dog of a frame to ride.
