Good fork for price but they've sacrficed the gear set - alivio is bottom of the pile! I guess a front and rear mechanism would cost aout £60 for the deore and then just a case of fixing it... hell, why not wait for a sale at evans cycles and get a hardrock sport/comp??

true but has shimano hydraulic discs and all the cheaper parts can be upgraded. for someone looking to get into biking its a great starter as most £300 bikes are poor.

I agree - its a good price for what you get. But I have found a great difference between basic and deore gearsets - much better shifting especially understrain up a hill. THe cost of replacing front/rear deraillers especially if they are purchased from the fitting shop is likely to be arouund 80-90 - add that to the cost of this bike - might as well wait for a better bike to come along. The gearset on this bike is multi-use - road/moutain - it was not designed to take a thrashing!!

My thanks to the OP. Been looking over the last week to replace bike nicked 2 weeks ago.

Managed to get this down to £282 inc 10% off and £20 cashback.

Gotta be delivered to home and then taken to shop for them to build it.

The RRP of this bike is higher than that of the Kraken which is a better spec bike.

I'd say this is only very slightly better than the Vulcan disc and lower spec'd than the krakan...it has been equiped to fit the price point it's selling at, so don't be taken in by the over inflated RRP

the kraken 09 is still £100 more so if someone is looking to spend under £400 i still reckon this is a good deal as you can upgrade parts over time as and when they need replacing. i ride a marin wolf ridge full sus. which is not obv in a lot of my mates price range who want to start mountain biking on a budget.

They wouldn't sell any at those prices though...not with the better spec'd Kraken being cheaper on those dates.

While a decent brand at a low price, that's a WSD model from 2006. As Trek are in the process of announcing their 2011 bikes as we speak, that makes it FIVE YEAR OLD STOCK.

Also. Women's Specific Design frames are shorter and don't fit many blokes that well.

It's not really an appropriate comparison.

How did you get 10% off and £20 cash back? I'm considering getting this bike...

Went tho topcashback which has tracked a smidge under £20.

Then ordered the bike for home delivery (you have to pay for delivery) and used the 10% code HALNUSJUN10 (which I suspect has expired now with it being July).

Codes cant be used for store delivery.

Bike delivered to home address, taken in the box to the shop where they built it and I picked it up the next day.
