Do you reckon this offer will only be on until Monday, or is that just a good old marketing trick?
#3
they do this kind of offers very often on different items but this last time with this price was in December and probably next time we will see it September - October time

Carrera bikes are very good specs for money - have a look on Carrera Vengeance Limited Edition model - £50 extra but spec even better!
#4
no idea about bikes but need to buy one got my eye on a specialized hardrock. but this is cheaper on sale. is this just as good or better?

Different bike brands, like different shoe brands, fit better on some people than others.

Try a selection of bikes in the price range you're considering - you'll find some a better fit than the others. Get the one that feels the best.

Buying the wrong bike is a waste of money, no matter what the price reduction.

The Carrera Vulcans are very good value for that money, you wont find anything better for that price brand new.
I used to have a Specialized Hardrock until a month or so when I bought a carrera (Im into MTB'ing but im a student so I dont have a massive budget, and upgraded as the specialized was too small).

The Specialized Hardrocks are very good value if you have up to about 160 ish to spend (get one 2nd hand on ebay about 3-4 yrs old) however if you want it to be 100% new you will struggle to beat the spec of the vulcans at that price.

Only thing that lets them down a bit is the suntour fork which isnt amazing to say the least, but you can upgrade it easily and for that price you cant complain. These bikes are worth 350+ easily, let alone 280 lol :)

Don't know why this has been expired. This deal was supposed to end yesterday but it appears to still be on!
#10
had mine for just under a week paid 190 with discount card, and its excelent , the forks are really good with a quick lock out which means its good on the road as well as off road been on two long rides and the only fault is the seat, **** is killing but bought some padded shorts from sports direct £6 and its sorted.

I've asked for this to be unexpired as the deal is still running
#12
If you're not desperate for a bike anytime soon, there are always some great deals at all the major bike shops to be had in September as next years models get released. Bikes from quality brands that were selling for £449 being reduced to £249 etc.
This seems a great price (Halfords selling something good for the money for once, normally selling crap for a high price) This looks like a nice bike for the money. (Skeptical about that original price tho!)

Heat Added.

Good bike for the price. Not a pile of junk, but the rrp is certainly a bit suspect.

what discount card did you sue to get this? thanks
#15
Probably actually worth a bit shy of £300 so at £225 I think it's very good value. The RRP is laughable though. Hot from me!
#16
Got this on the cycle to work scheme at £299 ver nice bike
#17
Where does it say when the offer is supposed to expire on the website? I'd like to have a look at one of these at the weekend
#18
I am undecided on buying this bike - very tempted.

The offer is definitely still on, though the bloke in Halfords couldn't tell me how long for.

This may have been expired as this was posted up very recently:

awesome... hopefully still valid once my local store's stock is updated to reserve online tomorrow!
#22
When I try to reserve in store for collection, it only seems to allow you to do it to pick up the next day. I think Monday is the first day I'd be able to go and collect it but I don't want the price to go up before then, any ideas?
#23
ordered well chuffed :) nearly paid £299.99 for this not long ago works out under £200 with quidco etc, hopefully get £10 gift card as well :)

next month its NUSMAY11, then NUSJUN11, then NUSJUL11..... you get the idea.
#25
Bought a voodoo bokor about a month ago for £540, was £600 but found a 10% code. Was between that and the Fury.

Reserved it online and as it gets towards the end of the reservation you can extend it until the next day.

Or you can just call the store and tell them you've reserved it and when you plan to pick it up. They'll put it to one side.
#26
so potentially 20% off... 10% with NUS when applied online and another 10% with the reserve and collect voucher in store....even better deal! =)
#27

20% off with the reserve and collect voucher in store...

The what now? Where do I find this voucher please?!
#28
I bought a Carerra Crossfire 2 a few years ago in sale at £200. They're still selling it at £300 now.
Good bike - my only moan is the mounting bolts (for drinks holder, pannier racks etc) started rusting within a few months - but they're easily and cheaply replaced for decent ones.
#29
looks good
#30
They put not bad parts on but the frame is usually not very good, thats what I heard about Halfords always beeb told dont buy from them as they are like argos and catalogue shops, I bought from a local bike shop or do a comparison but unfortunately you pay more at local bike shops, I have a Cube Ltd Comp, hubby has Orange P7
#31
The reserve and collect voucher has expired now
#32
Bought ltd edition subway last week. Good bike with good brakes and gears. Chose this over mountain bike as I specifically wanted for cycling to work. Very light weight and happy with the quality. Cycled 10th miles daily for last 4 days. The seat looks narrow BUT haven't felt like a big problem yet. cycling after 5 years.

22" - does that mean you need to be about 6 feet plus as it sounds pretty big?
1 Like #34
It's a very big frame for sure, best thing to do is try a few out. You need at least an inch stand over clearance above the top of the frame
#35
Has anybody managed to use the NUS code online, and if so did you have any problems when you collected the item, ie them asking for your card or anything.
#36
Picked up mine today, shame I didnt know about the NUS code, could have been even cheaper :(
#37
Picked mine up today. Looks great and my use of the NUS code wasn't questioned. Thanks to the contributions here
#38
Just remember it's 22". Make sure you only buy it if it fits you. This won't fit anyone below 6 foot I imagine,
#39
Got mine last week, just before the price went back up, very pleased with it, just took it for a ride, very comfortable, hope everyone that got one is pleased with it :D
#40
marketing trick i think or just poor stock taking. i reserved a vulcan 20" disk spec only to find they did not have one neither did any where in the country when i called most stores for them to physically look on shop floor not just the computer. why advertise and let me reserve somethin that isnt there
