Bought one of these not too long ago, a very good bike for an entry level cyclist just starting out
#2
One of my friends has these and the had to replace the tyres after about 100 miles and the gears were a nightmare. but for the price it's pretty good

Not bad for money but rrp £599!!!! Wtf talk about over inflated price. The offer price is about right for a bike of this spec
#4
Had one before it got knicked... Good entry level, same as Nad though - had issues with the tyres, ended up replacing.
#5
£4.39 a month for 3 years on cycle to work scheme... Bargain
#6
I'd go with the Triban 3which is lighter and MICHELIN 700X23 LITHION RED FLEX tyres

I own a carrera, the price is excellent and let's be honest, unless you're a serious cyclist why would you need to spend any more?
Yes you could upgrade tyres, wheels and carious other components, but if you're looking at this bike, chances are you're a noob, so just enjoy it!!

i have the 2013 special edition, if you can, go for the triban 3 or carrera TDF, the 7 speed freewheel makes it very difficult and costly to upgrade in the future if you wanted to, i didnt have much of an understanding about bike parts when i purchased it but wish i went for an 8 speed cassette. apart from that, very nice, looks like it costs more than it does, done just over 1000 miles since january and just replaced chain and freewheel (£18 for both bits) also upgraded tyres to vittoria zaffiro (£8 each), bar tape (£15) and saddle (£35).

Voted hot as the overall value is good, however the rims, brakes and gears are very, very basic and will need to be replaced soon (unless the main role of the bike is to spend all the time in a shed) .
I think, the Decathlon range is a safer buy but cost more.

PLEASE NOTE: The tribans are currently being phased out as new ones are being released in the next month. Probably best to hold of until them.

I realise this might have more to do with the length of a piece of string, but are the new tribans likely to be around the same price as the old ones?

I went into the store the other day and they told me that some have already been phased out (triban 7 isnt longer available online anymore) and the triban 5 (the one I was interested in) will be replaced with the triban 500. This is only a guess but I presume they should all be the same price roughly. i.e. triban 5 = triban 500

triban 3 was phased out months ago for the 3a which is the same price but doesn't have a carbon fork so doesn't seem as good
#15
As good as 99% of us need on a road bike .
#16
what a bunch of shysters Halfords are

Increase the price £20 to £269 and then offer £20 off

price has now gone up... con artists
#17
not a bad price, but very low end kit (I.e. Tourney gears). They were selling the old (current) Triban 3 at Decathlon for about £260 last time I was in store. Better kit and customer service.

I recently bought this bike on the Cycle2Work scheme and I'm finding it perfect for what I need it for. My commute is about 20 minutes, mainly on the road, and I've not had any problems as yet (had it for about a week). Maybe I'm going to get issues in a month or so but for this price it's definitely worth considering. I'm not going to be racing any time soon and I can get a decent speed on this anyway.

ok, so how does this compare to the Triban 3, that is £250 at Decathlon? http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-red-road-bike-id_8274036.html

It doesn't as the Triban 3 is so much better and the Decathlon customer service is second to none in my experience.

£250 triban is junior sized with small wheels, £299 white.version loses carbon forks. Is it possible to post a bike on here without the legendary triban 3 comparison ?

Gone up to £269

"frame only weighs 11.7kg". Either a typo and they mean the BIKE weighs that, or its made out of lead!

Another deluded person who thinks expensive = better
If over £220 for a bike is cheap what is this, extra cheap?

Check the review under this extra cheap 'bike'.

The fact you are not willing to pay more for certain thing doesn't make it expensive.
